Chapter 20
Bianca's POV:
We arrive at some weird McDonald's, and it's deserted. This must be the place where Laganja and Adore had their spat. We sit down and start talking, because we haven't said a word to each other the whole car ride, and we have a lot to say. "So are you going to tell me what the problem is between you and Courtney? And I don't want no 'There's nothing going on between us. We couldn't be happier' answer. I want the truth." Darienne says, looking at the menu. I sigh, knowing how sensitive this topic is. "It's just... I don't know. I keep convincing myself that there was no jealousy in Courtney, but all the signs were-- and still are-- there. And I'm having that bullshit again." I say. "'Again'? This happened before?" she asked. "Yeah. With Adore." "She raises an eyebrow. "Now, in the 3 years you've been dating, and this is a good thing, I have not seen any acts jealousy." "It mostly happened behind closed doors, but we would always make up before the next day. But, it was happening too often." "Why didn't you ever tell anyone?" "I didn't tell anyone because I didn't feel like it was anybody else's business." "Ok, so back to the main topic. What are you going to do about Courtney?" There is a moment of silence. "I said what are you--" "I heard you. I just don't know. What do you think I should do?" "I mean, are you happy with Courtney every day? Does she keep your heart satisfied all of the time, especially at times when you need it most?" I didn't say anything. "I'll let your mind ponder that. Let's go order." We get up and go to the counter, and, like Laganja said, there's nobody behind the counter. We ring the bell several times. Enough times that we are starting to get impatient. "What the fuck is up with this shit. Suburban neighborhoods like this should have people working like clockwork." Darienne bursts out. I laugh a little. We ring the bell a few more times, and I'm done waiting. "Okay let's go." We walk through the cooking area and into the break room, where was a short girl on the phone. I walk up to her and tap her on tbe shoulder. She turns her head and rolls her eyes. She fully faces me, and her eyes light up. "Girl, I'm gonna call you back later." she says, hanging up." she hangs up and stands up and faces us. "Can I help you gentlemen with something?" she asks staring at me. "Um... over here. We were waiting for somebody to come out there and take our orders." Darienne says, snapping to get the girl to face her. "Oh I'm so sorry . I'll be right out there. "Thank you." I say smiling. We walk out of there and back into the seating area and waited for her to come back out. "Is there something on my face?" I ask Darienne. "Nope. You look normal, why? she asks. "Because that girl was staring at me." "Maybe she's trying to get some action tonight." "You think?" "No, I'm only playing. You know better than to listen to me." The thoughts soon go away, and the girl finally comes out. "Welcome to McDonald's, what can I get you?" she asks normally. I think she finally realizes she has a job to do. "We will take a Cesar Salad, two vanilla milkshakes, and a quarter pounder." "Ok. You're total will be $6.52 (not actual prices). We both pull out or wallets, but Darienne opens his and dust comes out because he lost his money to me. I laugh, and I can see the girl chuckling out of the corner of my eye. "I don't know why your laughing; I'm eating free, so ha ha." she says. I roll my eyes and pull out my money and hand it to her. There's a moment where she hesitates to grab the money, but she grabs it and gets to work on making our food. We go sit back down, and continue our conversation from earlier. "Ok, let's pick up from where we left off. I say. "But from where? There was so much bullshit from each angle, it's hard to pick a starting point." she says, cupping her face in her hands. "Ok, how about when you were going to tell me some shit that could break my relationship." She sighs, maybe because she knows how important this could be. "So... I was talking with Adore earlier. One thing led to another... and... she said that she still loves you." "I kinda already knew that." "Just listen. After she said that, I said that if she really felt strongly about it, then she should do something about it, but she should do it on a one-on-one.with you." "So, by technicality, you made her get in that circle and sing our fucking song in my face and in front of Courtney?" "No. I didn't tell her to perform; hell, I didn't even know she was going to perform. And so what if Courtney saw. What do you care?" "Well she is my boyfriend, I don't know if you remember." "Is she really? If so, I wouldn't believe it if I was an outsider looking in." I don't have anything to say. She was right: We haven't been acting like a couple. I don't even think we've been acting like friends. "Of course I'm right." she says. "Well, since you're always right, what should I do?" I ask. "What I think you should do is dump Courtney. I don't think she's good for you. "Why are you so hellbent on me breaking up with Courtney?" I ask, letting my curiosity get the better of me. "Because you aren't right for each other. You're pretend to be somebody you're not, and same with Courtney. And don't sit there and say that what I'm saying is a lie." I sigh, not saying a word. Suddenly, I lose my appetite, and I just wish I go back home; not wanting to face Adore, not wanting to face Courtney, and not wanting to finish this conversation with Darienne. But, that's not who I am. I don't run away from people, if anything, I'm 10 times bitchy than usual. "I think I know what I need to do." I say. I look over the to see the cashier girl with our food and , but she doesn't call our order. She looks so timid and afraid. "Let's go." Darienne says, getting up and walking over to the cashier. We grab our stuff, and Darienne walks to her car. "Are you okay?" I ask. She nods her head aggressively. You know..." I look at her name tag. "...Laila, a pretty girl like you should smile more. And relax a bit." I walk out the door and we leave to go back.
One car ride later:
We walk from the lot and over to the back porch, where just the person I wanted to see I'd sitting on the bench. She tries to give me a hug, but I stop her. "Courtney... it's best if we break up." I flash her a cheesy smile, leaving her stunned.
