Patton POV
I don't think I'll miss this place. I thought to myself while looking around my messy bedroom. Marigold was pushing her nose against my knee, giving me a confused look.
Grabbing one of the boxes from the hallway, I sat it on the desk chair in my room. While I am sad to be moving out, I'm more than glad to have my own place with Logan.
The only problem is that we have to move all the way to Massachusetts. Well, that actually that's not too far from where we are now but I still don't want to move out of state.
But Logan is going to Harvard for college. I don't know why though considering that it's the college his parents always pushed for. Than again it's considered one of the most prestigious colleges in the country and Logan's incredibly smart.
I pulled my pride flag down from the wall and set it in the box. I started taking down all the posters around my room and rolling them up. I had so many keepsakes, photos, posters, and decorative ribbons on the walls.
I closed the box and grabbed a new one. My phone started ringing with a FaceTime ask from Logan. I answered with a smile.
"Hey logie!" I said, standing my phone up on my bedside table against my lamp.
"Salutations Patton," He responded. "How is packing coming along?"
"I've managed one box in the hour since you dropped me off," I laughed. I started grabbing all my stuffed animals from my bed and laid them in the box.
"I'm almost done," Logan answered, showing me all the boxes and his mostly empty room.
"Okay, well, besides your desk, you had a very neat and tidy room," I said. "My room is an absolute mess."
I worked on wrapping all the framed photos in old newspapers. I had probably twenty photos of all my friends, Marigold, and Logan and I.
"I advised you to clean up your room before starting to pack," Logan laughed lovingly.
"Well, I'm gonna do things my own way," I responded. "How's packing going for you?"
"I'm finished packing my things now. My parents aren't happy about me being back here and they burned both of my pride flags," Logan sighed.
"That's so mean," I pouted. "Well at least after this, you won't have to see them ever again."
"I guess you are right about that," He mumbled. "I'll just buy more when we get to our new apartment."
"I'm so excited to be officially living together and in our own home!" I squealed, bouncing a bit.
"As am I," Logan smiled. "I am going to finish putting all of this in the car and then I'll come to your house to help you finish packing."
"Thanks," I said. "See you soon."
Logan hung up and I went back to packing in silence. After a while, the silence became overwhelming and annoying. It reminded me how much I really am alone in this house.
I left my half packed up room and headed downstairs with Marigold following. It took many months to teach her how to walk up and down stairs with only one front paw.
The kitchen was full of food which upset me. I don't know when my parents will be back home. Half this food can't be transported because it needs to be cold. It's just so much food being wasted.
But maybe they'll come home soon now that I've moved out. After the incident in the hospital that Logan told me about, I haven't seen my parents. They didn't even show up to my graduation.
I grabbed my two mugs out of the cabinet. They were both pretty pastel mugs with flowers on them. A matching pair. Otherwise I'm not going to take any more kitchenware.
The only food I am bringing is my favorite tea. I had a half finished and an unopened box left. Lavender tea and chamomile tea.
I walked around the first floor and grabbed things that are mine and I want to take with me. Blankets on the couch, more framed photos, my book bag and my books.
All of Marigold's toys, food, leash, and bed had already been packed in a box by the door. There was a knock at the door.
I managed to open the door without dropping everything. It was early morning so the sun had barely risen. We have to leave soon if we want to get to our new apartment before sunset. Logan laughed a little big upon seeing me.
"Don't laugh, help me," I told him. Logan smiled and shut the door, taking some of the things from my arms.
We headed back up the stairs with Marigold on our heels. I deposited everything on my bed and continued to pack things.
"I'll start taking things outside and pack them in the car while you keep packing your things," Logan suggested.
"That'll probably work a lot faster," I nodded, opening my closest.
Logan bought a new car now that we're moving and becoming adults. It's much bigger so hopefully we'll be able to fit all our things inside the car.
He started carrying boxes downstairs while I grabbed all my clothes, which really wasn't that much, and sat them on my bed.
I finished putting my mugs and other photos in the box with the other photos. Then I folding blankets and pillow cases and put those in a different box. My blue comforter is a little too big for the bed so I don't know what to do with it. It'll be too small for our new bed but I don't want to leave it here.
I pushed all the boxes towards the door and then grabbed another empty one. It was a bigger one so all my shirts, cardigans, sweaters, pants and hoodies went into it. Along with socks and underwear of course. I didn't really have that much. Another box was filled with all my shoes.
Gingerly I sat all my plants and succulents into a smaller box with lots of newspaper. All my other knickknacks and books went into a different box.
That was about it. I looked around my empty room. All that was left was the desk, bookshelf, bed frame and mattress.
Logan returned after finishing with all the boxes and wrapped his arms around my waist. He rested his chin on my shoulder and pressed a kiss to my cheek.
"Are you doing okay Patton?" He asked softly.
"I'm glad to be leaving this place but it was still home for so long," I mumbled. "It's a bittersweet feeling."
"Our new home is waiting for us," Logan reminded me. Tears pricked in my eyes.
"Let's go before I get too emotional," I laughed.
Logan gave me a kiss and I picked up my comforter to wrap it around my shoulders. He then led the way downstairs and to the car. Marigold was running around the front yard obviously excited about a car ride.
I opened the door and called for Marigold. She hoped up into the backseat and sat down. Half of the second row was taken up by boxes but there was enough room for her.
Logan got in the drivers seat while I hopped into the passenger seat. I sat my book bag that had my phone, charger, earbuds, wallet and other belongings in it. I wrapped the comforter around me, cold from the morning chill.
Time to move on from this town and my parents.

Logan POV
I guess this is freedom. Well, not necessarily considering college and adult. At least I'm free from my parents.
The apartment looked very nice. Patton was excitedly finishing up the last touches. I looked around, making sure everything was perfect. We bought the place based off photos since we didn't have time for a four hour trip to Massachusetts.
It had a nice kitchen with white cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and marble countertops. The kitchen flowed into a nice sized living room with a fireplace. Down a hallway was the bathroom, bedroom and office.
The office might be my favorite place in the apartment. It had a nice window with a view over the street below. It came with a wooden desk and a wall with built in shelves. I put my telescope and all of my school things in here.
I headed back into the living where Patton had finished putting all the smaller decorations around the room. Mostly photos of us and friends, lots of plants and succulents, and Patton's pride flag hanging above the couch.
The first thing on the list of things to do is to buy pride flags for myself. Also food and other essentials for living.
Patton sat down on the couch and made grabby hands for me. I indulged him and sat down, cuddling him to my chest.
"This place is amazing," Patton said with a smile.
"I do have to agree," I mumbled, looking around the apartment. "This apartment is quite pleasant."
"I don't wanna go to college," He pouted.
"Why not?" I asked. "Knowledge is one of the most important things in this world."
"But it's difficult," Patton whined. "And so much work."
"It'll be worth it," I promised, pressing a kiss to his nose. Patton giggled a bit at that.
"It'll always be worth it if we stay together through all of this," He said softly, a hopeful look in his eyes.
"Than I guess it's good I don't plan on leaving," I told him. Patton smiled again and hugged me tightly.
It's quite the opposite in fact. We're officially adults and out of high school. Once we've both graduated from college, I plan to propose to Patton.
The only problem is that I tend to start planning things that won't happen for a while. A proposal is many years in the future. But I do know Patton is someone I want to spend the rest of my life with.
"Logan," Patton said in a louder voice, snapping me from my thoughts.
"Yes?" I asked.
"I asked if we could make cookies," He repeated with a frown. "Don't ignore me."
"That wasn't my intention love," I promised, giving him a kiss. "Of course we can make cookies."
"Yay!" Patton squealed. He jumped off my lap and ran to the kitchen.
I followed at a slower pace. Today can be a lazier day than usual. But then we must get down to business once school starts.
Maybe it's just been all the moving, but I feel jet lagged. I was only wearing some sweatpants and my nasa t-shirt. Patton was wearing sweatpants and his cat hoodie.
I helped gather all the materials needed for chocolate chip cookies. While a balanced meal is very important, cookies will suffice enough for today.
Patton smiled happily to himself while starting to bake the cookies. I wrapped my arms around his waist and rested my chin on the top of his head.
This is home.

Patton POV
College is so much more difficult than I thought it would be. I've barely survived freshman year...somehow. It's just so much work and pressure.
I've made friends but none could compare to all my friends from high school. I don't like how much we've separated. Emile is really the only one I still keep in touch with but even then, we can only text and call each other.
Logan won't be home for another hour. He has more classes than me and his are longer anyways. I'm trying to get a major in education so I can be a kindergarten teacher. Logan's studying to be a biochemist. I don't know how he does it.
I slid down the door to the floor. The cold hardwood felt good after being in the hot early summer sun. Before I even knew it, I started crying.
Everything is so overwhelming. I hate college. It's too much pressure and money. Between classes and work, I barely have any time to myself.
I work at Barnes and Noble. Logan doesn't have time to work so I work enough shifts for the both of us. Logan has a lot of money, but college is still so much money.
But I have to right to complain. Emile tells me how bad it is for him and Remy. They have a horrible apartment, are drowning in college debt, and working multiple jobs.
And here I am being a crybaby again over my stupid problems. I tried to wipe the tears away and push myself up. I stumbled to the bedroom, dropping my book bag at the door to Logan's Officer.
I laid down on the bed, then I curled up. I laid there in silence for a few minutes before pulling the hood of my cat hoodie over my head. Adulthood isn't as fun as I thought it would be.
A half hour passed of just laying on the bed in silence. My eyes darted to the clock. Logan will be home soon. I should have dinner ready for him. It takes a smile that spreads like butter. Something that quickly can be put back on to lessen suspicion.
I sat up and wiped my tears away. I pulled off my tear soaked hoodie and pulled on a nice cardigan. Then I went to the bathroom to try and make my face less red and blotchy.
Once I looked presentable, I headed to the kitchen. I pulled out the things needed for spaghetti. It's something quick to make. I have twenty minutes until Logan's home.
But then the door opened. I jumped in surprise. I turned to see Logan sighed while walking inside. I went over to try and help him.
"What's going on?" I asked. "I thought your classes weren't over yet."
"Class was dismissed early," Logan answered. "Are you making spaghetti again?"
"It's kinda the only thing we can afford right now," I laughed awkwardly. "We could try ramen instead."
"We can stick to spaghetti," Logan said.
Logan headed straight to his office. My smile went away pretty quickly once I was alone again. I went back to making dinner. I didn't except Logan to be home sooner.
"Patton are you okay?" Logan asked, popping back into the kitchen.
"I'm perfectly fine Logie," I told him with a smile. He raised an eyebrow in suspicion.
"You aren't acting fine," He commented.
"Yes I am," I lied.
"You're lying,"
"I'm fine Logan," I said in a sterner voice, my smile disappearing.
"You're obviously not," Logan said, walking over to me. He rested a hand on the small of my back and leaned against the counter next to me.
"It's nothing important," I argued, trying to continue working.
"If I remember correctly, you once were mad at me for saying the same thing to you when we were still in high school," Logan said. "We agreed to not lie to each other, especially about our feelings. Patton your face is blotchy I can tell you've been crying."
I sighed and rested my head on Logan's shoulder. I started crying again. Logan wrapped his arms around me and just help me tightly.
"I'm just stressed," I admitted. "It's not that big of a deal."
"About what?" He asked.
"College...money...life in general...making sure you're okay...making dinner...work," I listed a few off softly.
"College is difficult," Logan sighed. "If you're having trouble with your classes, I can help you."
"I can do it myself," I told myself. "Besides, you have enough to worry about."
"You know you don't have to take care of me," Logan said. "I understand you having a very caring nature but I don't want you to be stressed."
"But you have classes so late and I'm always home from work before you," I mumbled, trying to justify my overworking.
Logan stood up straight and and put his hands on my hips. He sighed with a loving look in his eyes. Then he gave me a kiss.
"Patton you're adorable," He mumbled. "You're also too nice for your own good."
"I don't understand," I whispered, tilting my head up to look at him.
"You want to take care of me, but you don't have to," He told me sternly. "Let's push back dinner until I'm home and then we can cook it together."
"But that's just one thing," I worried aloud. "There's so many things going wrong."
"We will face those problems when they arrive," Logan said gently. "For now, I want you to relax."
I nodded a bit and sighed. I quickly rubbed my eyes to get rid of the tears. Logan pulled me tightly against his chest and pressed kisses to the top of my forehead.
Logan can be very loving when he wants to be. He always says that he doesn't care for sentiment and that he's emotionless but he's not. It just a facade he has so that people don't suspect when he's upset.
"I can finish dinner, you go sit down and rest," He said sternly.
Before I could protest, Logan pushed me over to the couch. I pouted as I sat down. I don't like just sitting here. It makes me feel useless.
However, the longer I sat here, the more I realized how tired I was. I relaxed a bit and let out a long sigh. My feet hurt a lot and this felt much better.
I don't know how long I was laying there but soon Logan was shaking me awake. There was a loving smile on his face and a caring look in his eyes.
"It's dinner time Patton," He told me softly. I stood back up with a sigh.
We sat down at the table and started eating. The spaghetti was cooked to perfection considering that Logan cooked it. Whenever Logan does anything, he has to follow the instructions perfectly.
"Thank you so much," I sighed. "I love you so much."
"You're very welcome," Logan responded, pulling me in for a kiss. "I love you too."

Logan POV
"Holy shit," I breathed, staring down at the lab table in front of me.
I almost took off my googles to see it for my own eyes. I took a deep breath and looked at the equations again.
"This can't be happening," I laughed. "But it is!"
"What's going on?" My coworker and former high school classmate, Steve Vector, asked.
He pushed himself over to my table on his wheeled stool. We ended up studying biochemistry at Harvard together. We're both tied at the top of our classes together. Now we work at the school laboratory.
"If this equation is right...and I can duplicate it..." I mumbled, quickly pulling gloves on. "I might've just discovered a new element."
"Are you fucking joking?" Steve asked, standing up with wide eyes.
"Look and then watch," I told him.
I slid the small beaker where the first batch of the element was. It looked like a rock but crumbled into a sand like substance upon being touched. Then it reformed into a more blob like shape a few minutes later. It was a bright sky blue with white streaks through it.
I picked up the dropper and added the correct amounts of potassium chloride into the beaker of astatine. Then I put the beaker over the burner and turned it to high.
Seconds later the new element appeared again. I smiled and pulled it off the burner. I stared at the little blue and white rock in complete shock.
"Holy motherfucking shit you did it," Steve said in complete and utter shock.
"This is incredible!" I yelled, standing up.
This time I did pull off my googles. The element was completely stable despite being made from astatine which is a high radioactive element.
"Who the fuck do we call?" Steve asked.
"I have no clue for once," I laughed. "I'm in utter shock."
"Guess you are smarter than me," He laughed. "But only in chemistry." He added quickly with a glare.
"Call the professor," I told him. "She'll know who to call."
"What are you going to name it?" Steve asked excitedly.
"Name it?" I mumbled, still in utter shock.
"Yeah dumbass, you discovered it so you get to name it," Steve told me.
I didn't even know where to begin with a name. The shock of discovering a new element hasn't worn off. I don't even know what to think. I'm going to be famous now.
I started thinking more name wise. I can name it after myself and have my legacy preserved forever. But then I thought about Patton and how much he pushed me to keep working at this dream of mine.
"Pattokaine," I mumbled. "That's it's name."
~•~
Aren't you happy Logie?" Patton asked me excitedly.
"This has been a very nice day," I mumbled.
We were sitting at a table together at Roman and Virgil's wedding reception. The pair were talking together at the head table with Roman's family.
"I had fun getting to be Roman's best man," He continued. "I didn't expect him to ask me but I'm not complaint since I didn't get to be Emile's best man in his wedding."
"It is quite amusing that the majority of our friend group is barely out of college and yet everyone's getting married," I commented.
"Yeah," Patton mumbled. "Looks like fun."
I frowned, almost instantly noticing the sudden change in Patton's mood. I can tell he wants to get married and he wants me to propose to him. Patton's been dropping not so subtle hints ever since Remy and Emile's wedding.
Snapping me from my thoughts, Emile walked over to our table. He looked to be in a good mood which I could tell made Patton happier. It's no secret among our friend group that Remy and Emile we're struggling badly.
"Come dance with me Patton," Emile asked, holding his hands out. He was wearing a pink teacup dress.
Patton quickly took his hands and followed Emile out into the dance floor. Before I even knew what was happening Roman had taken Patton's chair with a smirk.
"Hello Logan," Roman said happily but something in his eyes told me to be afraid.
"Greetings Roman," I responded. "Congratulations on your marriage to Virgil."
"Thank you," Roman smiled, placing a hand over his heart. "But while we're on the subject of marriage...you love Patton, correct?"
"Of course I love Patton," I answered, not scared to admit my feelings for him.
"I can understand why the poly relationship isn't married yet, it's probably a whole lot of legal stuff that I don't understand," Roman said. "But please explain to me why you and Patton aren't married."
"We're both still in college," I answered. "Trust me, it's on my long term plan, but I want to wait until we've both graduated."
"But that could mean years for you," Roman whined. "You and Patton need to get married."
I just sighed in response. The college excuse is getting old. In truth, I'm scared. I know Patton wants to get married but I'm still terrified to ask. It's such a major point in our life and I'm afraid to cross that point.
"Seriously," He sighed. "It's not that big a deal. I did it. Remy did it. It won't be long till Damien or Remus do it. You can propose to Patton."
"It's not that easy," I snapped, my temper getting the best of me.
"I proposed to Virgil," Roman deadpanned. "I think I know what I'm doing."
"You are an extremely romantic person that understand emotions," I argued. "I'm not like that."
"I could help you," Roman gasped excitedly. He leaned across the table with a smile and a pleading look in his eyes.
"I'd prefer to do it myself," I said sternly. "I just need time. I can do it." But I was more so trying to convince myself than Roman.
"You're lying to yourself," He sighed disappointedly.
"I will do it eventually," I told him. "I just need to figure out how."

Patton POV
"Please tell me where we're going," I begged for probably the millionth time.
"You'll see when we get there," Logan told me again with a self satisfied smirk.
"Please," I whined. "I've been sitting in this car for nine hours now and all I know is that we're heading west. I don't even know what state we're in at this point."
"We are less than twenty minutes from our destination if that makes you feel better," He laughed.
I huffed and crossed my arms over my chest. I'm not a patient person. Logan has been planning this surprise trip for the week after we graduation for about a month now. The week has arrived and all I know is to pack for nice weather.
I couldn't be happier to have graduated. I have one summer to find a teaching job. I studied to be a kindergarten teacher so now it's just trying to find a school that'll accept a gay teacher. Well, I'm pansexual but I'm still dating a man.
Logan graduated with some many honors and majors I couldn't process it. He's already incredibly rich and famous for discovering a new element. I just like that he named it after me.
"I don't mean to upset you Patton," Logan said after a few minutes of silence. "I just want this to be a surprise."
"I'm not mad," I told him with a laugh. "I just don't like having to wait."
"We'll we are technically here," He mumbled, pulling up to a gate.
I sat in silence while Logan talked to whoever was working this gate. Then we drove inside and we were in a quaint little village. We drove farther and eventually Logan told me to close my eyes.
"Okay, wait here I'll be around to help you out," Logan said after I felt the car stop beneath me.
Then the car door opened and Logan was helping me out of the car. It was pretty quite despite the sound of the wind, some people talking, and a faint crashing sound.
I was pulled along somewhere with my eyes closed for a good couple of minutes. Then we stoped. I was practically bouncing in excitement. The crashing sound was more distinct now.
"Open your eyes," Logan mumbled.
I opened them and gasped. Then I had to blink a few times from the sun. I was looking at a lake. Well, it was a pretty big lake. There was a large pier farther down the path Logan and I were standing on. Across the water I could see land.
"Where are we?" I asked.
"One of the Great Lakes," Logan answered. "Lake Erie."
"It's very pretty," I breathed. I looked down the rocky beach to where the waves were crashing against the rocks. "But it doesn't seem very big. I can see land."
"Oh, that's Put-In-Bay and Middle Bass Island," Logan answered. "The lake is much bigger than what we can see. Our view is somewhat obstructed by islands."
"This is still beautiful," I said happily. I held onto Logan's arm tightly and looked across the water. I've only ever seen the ocean, not any of the Great Lakes before.
The sun was setting, casting a beautiful sky above us and a breathtaking view over the water at the sunset. It's breathtaking.
"This trip is supposed to be a very calm and relaxing week," Logan said. "I've read many good reviews of this gated village. It's very nice with many activities."
"I'm so excited Logie," I told him. "This place seems amazing."
"I have one more thing to ask of you Patton," Logan mumbled, seemingly embarrassed.
I turned to him with a calming smile. We held each other's hands between each other. Logan looked really nervous about something.
"Patton, we've been together for a while now," Logan stared, having to take a deep breath. "I know that I'll never be able to ever fall in love with someone like I have with you. You've made my life amazing in so many different ways. I imagine this life for us. It's a perfect life, we're happy together. We grow old together. I want to spend the rest of my life with you Patton. I want you to be the person I wake up to every morning. I want to be able to care for you and protect you for the rest of our lives. I'm not very good at expressing me feelings so I'm sure this speech is probably very bad. But I do know that I care deeply for you and I love you more than anyone else in this world. So with that being said,"
Logan got down on one knee before me. I gasped and pulled one of my hands from Logan's to put it over my mouth. He pulled a little black box from his pocket and opened it to show me a beautiful ring with a silver band and a white diamond.
"Patton Emerson, will you marry me?" Logan asked with a hopeful look in his eyes.
"Yes!" I squealed, throwing myself into Logan's arms. "Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!" I repeated over and over.
Logan laughed and just held me tightly. We kissed and then pulled apart so I could put on the ring. I finally heard people awing and clapping around us but I didn't care.
I'm just so happy right now. Logan smiled at me and then we were kissing again. This is the best day ever.
