Where's my epic background music?

Roman POV

"Roman!" My mom called from downstairs. "Breakfast is ready!"

"Coming!" I yelled back, fixing my hair for probably the millionth time today. I looked at myself in the mirror.

Perfect. Well, I hope it's perfect at least. I was wearing my Hamilton shirt and a pair of new jeans.

I pulled on my letterman jacket and grabbed my phone, checking all my social media. I headed out of my room and downstairs.

The second my foot hit the last step, my dog was all over me. He was a golden retriever that love to be carried around despite being full grown and almost nine years old.

"Down Zeus!" I told him, while laughing. He kept jumping on me until I picked him up. I laughed and walked into kitchen while still carrying Zeus.

Both Dad and Mom laughed when they saw me. I dropped Zeus and tried to walk over to the kitchen table without tripping over him.

I was the youngest child in one of the richest families around. I had super supportive and caring parents, but they still pushed me to do well in school and sports. But they still supported all the drama performances I did.

My older brother, Remus, was a whole different story. He was supposed to be in his third year in college now. But now he's dropped out and runs around New York calling himself The Duke and getting into a lot of legal issues. He never comes home to visit or for any holidays or birthdays.

"Any tests today?" Asked dad, taking a sip from his coffee, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Not that I'm aware of." I told him, sitting down at the table. My mom handed me a plate on pancakes which I devoured instantly. I looked over at the clock, to see that I was right on schedule.

"Make sure to keep your grades up." He reminded me. "Playing sports and doing theater isn't going to get you to college."

"I know." I sighed. I knew they cared deep down, that's why they always asked about this kind of stuff. I looked over at the clock, relived to see it was time to go.

"Gotta go." I told them, standing up. "Bye, love ya guys."

"Love you too sweetie." Mom called from the kitchen. I grabbed my keys and headed into the garage.

I climbed into my bright red mustang and threw my bookbag and football bag into the seat next to me.

And with that I was off to school.

I was standing at my locker, laughing my ass off with my friends. Jackson, Will, and Hunter, my three best friends, were crowding around me.

A girl, I think her name is Chloe, came up to me. She ran her hand down my hand and leaned against me.

"Hey babe." She said, smiling evilly almost. Yep, this is supposed to be my girlfriend. The uncomfortable feeling came back.

If happened with every girl I dated. It didn't matter who it was. It just didn't feel right. Something about it...just...felt off.

I looked down at Chloe, but my gaze flickered up to someone else. And there he was. I felt my face flush slightly.

I'm pretty sure his name is Virgil. Otherwise, I don't know much about him. He's an outcast, that's for sure.

But there's just something about him, that draws me too him. He was pulling books out of his locker. His hair fell down in front of his face. He's just...beautiful almost.

Nope! I'm not gay! I can't be gay. Nobody would accept me anymore if I was gay. Could I be gay? Dating girls just doesn't feel right, and I can't help but feel attracted to the emo kid.

I can't think that about him. Or guys at all. Much less an emo outcast like him. I mentally cringed. That wasn't very nice of me to say.

Jackson slapped me on the back, jerking me back into reality.

"You ready for the big game tonight?" He asked.

"Of course." I scoffed, putting my hand to my chest. "I'm offended you didn't think I was."

"Just making sure, we're up against a team ranked high than us." Said Hunter. "We're gonna need our quarterback to be ready."

"I'm always ready." I told him with a smirk.

"I'll be right back." Said Jackson, walking away. I waved to him, wondering where he was going.

One of my best musical buddies, Thomas Sanders, and I were sitting in the cafeteria getting yelled at by Principle Williams.

I was mentally sighing. All we wanted to do was perform Aaron Burr, Sir on one of the tables. But he kept yelling at us for our reckless and dumb behavior.

"You're lucky we need to beat this team tonight King, or I'd pull you from the game." Said Principle Williams, getting my attention. "No more stunts from either of you!"

With that he stormed away. I looked over at Thomas. Instantly, we erupted into laughter.

"Does he really think...that coach...would let him pull me from the game...on our most important game of...the year." I gasped out between laughs.

"Who knows." Thomas laughed.

I was waking down the hallway with Thomas at the end of the day. We were discussing musicals, but was cut off by a scream.

"What was that?" I said aloud.

"I'm not sure." Answered Thomas slowly. I headed towards the scream, pushing through the crowd.

I looked over the head of people to see Jackson standing over...Virgil. Well fuck. Jackson was kicking the shit out of Virgil while screaming horrible things at him.

"Gonna fight back bitch?" He yelled at Virgil, accenting it with another kick. "Worthless piece of emo trash." I felt anger fill me, but fear of what everyone would say if I saved Virgil stopped me.

"How about you just kill yourself freak." Jackson growled at Virgil. Jackson raised his foot to kick Virgil again. That was all it took to push me over the edge.

"Hey!" I yelled, pushing past people to reach Jackson. "Leave him alone!"

I pushed Jackson away from Virgil. Jackson looked at me, pure shock on his face.

"What the hell man!" Jackson yelled at me.

"I said, leave him the fuck alone!" I yelled back.

"What?" Asked Jackson. His had a look of extreme confusion and rage on his face.

"Did I fucking stutter?" I growled at him.

"Why are you protecting this waste of space." Growled Jackson, pointing at Virgil.

"It isn't right." I growled back.

"Who cares?" Said Jackson with a laugh. He pushed me out of his way to get back to Virgil. He went to kick him again, but I punched him square in the jaw.

"What the fuck?!" Jackson screeched. He tuned to me, holding his chin. He punched me back in the nose.

With that, I launched myself at him. We wrestled around on the floor for a bit, but I got him in a headlock easily.

Jackson struggled against me, kicking my legs and clawing at my arms. I squeezed harder, causing Jackson to let out a strangled cry.

"Okay! Okay! Stop! I'm sorry!" Jackson chocked out. I threw him down on the ground, glaring at him.

"Don't hurt him again." I growled at Jackson. Jackson grumbled something under his breath but got back up and sulked away.

Everyone was giggling and whispering. They kept crowding around. It was bothering me.

"Go away! All of you! Nothing to see here!" I told them all, shooing them away. People grumbled but started walking away.

I turned to see Virgil. He was curled up on the ground, shaking. I walked over to him and knelt down next to him.

"Hey...you okay?" I asked softly. He looked over at me, eyes wide in fear. He shook his head but otherwise didn't do anything.

Gently, I helped him to his feet. He kept shaking, wrapping his arms around himself. I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with him right now.

I grabbed his arm and pulled him with me. I headed out one of the side doors and outside. It was getting kinda cloudy out. Hopefully the game won't get rained out.

I walked over to a bench under one of the trees and sat Virgil down on it. He put his elbows on his knees and buried his face in his hands. I sat down next to him, not entirely sure what to do.

"I'm sorry about what Jackson did." I told him, breaking the silence.

"It's fine...I got used to it...thanks though...for stopping him." He mumbled between deep breaths. I felt anger fill me towards Jackson.

"Are you sure your okay? You don't sound okay?" I asked, feeling genuinely worried for the emo.

"Just trying not to have a panic attack." He mumbled. "I should go." He mumbled. He stood up shakily.

"Wait." I told him, standing up next to him. "Just...tell me if Jackson even pulls anything like that again."

"Maybe." He said. "You don't have to protect me though."

"I think I will." I told him, smiling slightly.

"Roman King." I told him, holding out my hand. He shook hands with me.

"I know." He mumbled. I mentally face palmed. Of course he knew that. Who doesn't know that. "Virgil Pierce." He told me. I smiled.

"You got yourself a new friend Virgil Pierce." I told him.

"What? Why?" He asked quickly, seeming to tense up.

"Sorry..." I told him laughing awkwardly. "I don't know. You seem like a nice guy, and you don't have any other friends. Besides, Jackson's going to come for you again."

"Maybe...I'll think about it." He mumbled.

"Good." I told him. He turned to walk away, but he wasn't heading towards the parking lot.

"Need a ride home!" I called, jogging over to him. "It looks like it's going to rain soon."

"I'm fine." He told me. With that, it started to sprinkle a bit.

"You sure?"

"I can walk through the rain." He mumbled, pulling his hoodie tighter over his head. The rain was quickly starting to pick up.

"You sure?" I asked. "I don't want you walking through the rain."

"Fine." He sighed. I smiled and headed over to the parking lot. I heard him following me.

I got into my car, pushing all my stuff into the backseat so he could sit down.

"Where do you live?" I asked, once he got in the car.

He gave me his address. I nodded and started driving to his house. He stayed silent the entire car ride.
