Roman POV
I hummed The Greatest Show to myself softly as I shut my locker. With a long sigh, I rested my forehead on it.
Midterms are finally over. Finally.
So now that means winter break. And Christmas! I can't wait! I'm going to get to spend it with Virgil and I have the perfect gift planned for him.
Tomorrow's his birthday. I hope he's okay with what I planned, because it is kind of last minute. So I guess it's actually a birthday gift.
But I'm still going to get him more amazing gifts once Christmas comes in a week. I'm not sure how I'll top this gift thought.
I also planned a surprise birthday party for him tonight with Patton and Emile. They're very excited and helped spread the news in our friend group.
Jerking me out of my thoughts, a hand slammed against my locker. I jumped slightly, stopping my humming to let out a curse.
"We gotta talk princey," Jackson sneered, glaring at me.
"Well I don't want to talk to you," I sneered back. I turned on my heel to walk away. But Jackson grabbed my shoulder and spun me back around.
"You made a fucking mistake walking away from me a few days ago," He hissed.
"You should've come by sooner then," I said with a laugh.
"Oh shut it Roman," Jackson said with a roll of his eyes.
"Look, just drop it Jackson," I tried to tell him.
"You know what I know, I'm sure he's told you," Jackson said lowly. "I will tell everyone."
"I'd rather you didn't," I growled, crossing arms over my chest. Jackson and I stood at the same height. For a while we just glared at each other.
"You still haven't broken up with him," Jackson reminded. "You have till Christmas."
"I'm not going to break up with my boyfriend just because you're an insecure jerk who's so lonely he has to force happy couples apart just because you're jealous," I said.
"You're a dick," Jackson growled, his eyes narrowing. His face was turning slightly red with anger.
"Yet I'm not the one who picks on people," I smirked.
"You have nothing on me," Jackson said. "I have all the power here."
"I don't think you'll do it," I argued.
"Try me," He hissed, getting in my face.
"How will you explain where you got all this information?" I asked. "Did you spy on Virgil? Go through his personal, confidential, medical records? Did you bride someone for information? Or did you break into a hospital to find out? Or abandoned property?"
"You've been there too," Jackson pointed out, his face bright red in anger. His eye twitched a bit. "I just saw the names and decided to do a little digging."
"And to do that you'd have to go through his medical records," I said again. "I'm pretty sure you can't do that legally."
"It's none of your damn business," He growled. "All I care about is exposing that freak with the fucked up mind and make you look like a fool for dating him."
"Just leave us alone," I growled back. "We've done nothing to you."
"No, you don't get it Roman," Jackson whispered angrily. "You are Mr. Perfect, the king of this high school. You get good grades, you're the fucking quarterback and the star actor at this school. You have the perfect life with the perfect family and no you're happy in love. I wanna slap you with reality."
"I am well aware of reality," I said lowly. "And I've known hardships too."
"Like what?" Jackson laughed. "Was your hair not perfect one day?"
"This isn't funny," I growled, feeling my own anger growing.
"Oh wait, you do have something wrong in your life," Jackson said with a smirk.
"What...?" I asked cautiously.
"That fucked up brother of yours," He answered. "Remus, right? Just got out of rehab, or was it jail? Or his psycho boyfriend?"
"Leave me and my brother and Virgil the hell alone!" I yelled at him. Jackson just laughed.
"What are you gonna do?" He asked. "Throw a fit? How princely of you."
"Why do you enjoy this?!" I asked, borderline yelling at him. "Why do you have to pick on everyone? Why can't you leave me and Virgil alone?!"
"Fine," Jackson said. "I can find someone else. Maybe the Patton guy. Or the psycho...Quinn's his real name, right? Or maybe Emile?"
"Just leave everyone alone," I hissed at him.
"Do as I say, or else," Jackson hissed. "Or I start spilling secrets and posting photos everywhere."
"What's photos?" I asked angrily.
Jackson pulled a copy of the picture of Virgil and I kissing on my front porch. Then he pulled out a laminated copy of Virgil's records from the mental hospital.
"How the fuck did you get your hands on that?!" I yelled, darting forwards to grab the paper.
"Oh no," Jackson purred, holding the paper away so I couldn't reach it.
"You are a douche," I hissed at him.
"No, I'm just not a freak," He said. "Will you break up with him?"
"Never," I vowed.
"Time to post this," Jackson smirked. Anger filled me.
Before I could even think about it, I lunged at him. Blinding by anger, I just started punching. But Jackson quickly started fighting back.
With almost no one else in the school, nobody watched or tried to stop us. I scrambled for the paper still in Jackson's hand.
A sharp kick landed on my leg. I grimaced, responding by kicking him back. I grabbed his arm and tried to bend his arm back down to me. I reached for the paper.
Jackson turned quickly and threw me across the floor right into the locker. I let out a gasp and a chocked cough as I felt dull pain spread across my back.
But clutched in my hand was the paper. Jackson's eyes narrowed in anger and he lunged at me. I turned quickly and kicked him in the stomach.
He let out a gasp and stumbled backwards. I took this moment to bolt. Grabbing my book bag and swinging it over my shoulder, I just ran as fast as I could out of the school.
I could hear Jackson screaming angrily after me but after a while he stopped. He was obviously out of breath.
I didn't stop until I was at my car. I practically threw myself into the car and started it as quickly as possible.
Virgil luckily went one with Patton and Logan. They were going to distract him until it was time for the surprise party.
After a while, I pulled into my driveway. I paused a bit, the paper still in my hand. Anger filled me as I glanced at it.
But I didn't dare read it. This is Virgil's personal information and experience and reasons why he was there. It's his choice about what I do and don't know. I'm not going to look at this without Virgil's permission.
I angrily walked into my house, dropping my bookbag by the stairs. Mom was in the kitchen, baking the cake for Virgil. She glanced worriedly at me while I stormed past but didn't say anything. I was going to the formal living room where a fire was going in the fireplace.
I looked into the fireplace, angrily clutching the paper in my hands. I will not break up with Virgil. I at least know that much.
But how many more copies does Jackson have? And even if he doesn't have any more, he'd still know what happened.
I tossed the paper into the fireplace. I watched angrily as it went up in flames. Crumbling up before falling into ashes.
