Patton POV
I hate thunderstorms. As I thought that, another rumbled of thunder filled the sky. Accented by a bolt of lightening that light up the now dark room.
I glanced over at Logan who was miraculously calm. Completely unlike myself.
"Are you doing okay Patton?" Logan asked gently, moving to stand next to me.
"No," I mumbled. "Everything is going horribly wrong."
"Well, I'm still here," He told me. "So that's one good thing, right?"
I sniffled and nodded. I smiled a bit and wiped a few tears away.
"Yeah, I guess you're right," I laughed. "You're always right."
"I know," He laughed with me. "Now come on, we finished making dinner in time. We can find some candles and still eat. We don't need your parents here to still have a good night."
"There's some in the basement," I mumbled, my fear growing. There's a storm. There's no power. And now I have to go down to the dark creepy basement to get candles.
"I can tell you are afraid, so if you tell me where the candles are, I can go get them for us." Logan told me. I smiled gratefully at him.
"Under the stairs on the shelf, there's a shoe box labeled 'candles'." I told him. Wordlessly, Logan nodded and left to go get the candles.
Logan was only gone for a few minutes, but those few minutes felt like hours. I hated having to stand alone in the kitchen, in the dark, as the storm raged on outside.
When Logan returned, I practically threw myself into his arms. Logan was ridged at first, but eventually returned the hug.
"I hate the dark," I mumbled into his chest. "It's scary."
"The dark can't hurt you Patton," He told me. "It's not logical."
"Still," I argued, but flushing because of how childish I sounded.
"How about we have dinner and than we can wait out the storm together," He told me. I nodded 'yes' and moved over to the table.
I sat the table and set out the food. Logan worked on lighting enough candles to give the dark room a warm glow.
Than we sat down at the table across from each other. I couldn't help but blush again at this scenario. It looks like we're on a date.
We sat there in silence, just eating dinner for an awkwardly long amount of time.
"Oh," I said, breaking the silence. "Did you ever find out what grade we got on the project with Squiggles?"
"I did," Logan told me. "We got an one hundred percent on the project."
"Yes!" I yelled. "Patton did a real good job!"
Logan laughed at my behavior. I liked hanging out with Logan. I don't know if that's just because he's my crush. But he's surprisingly really easy to talk to once you get past the cold nerd exterior.
Dinner passed by without a hitch.
~~Le MaGiCaL TiMe SkiP~~
It's been two hours now since the power went out. Logan and I had moved into the living room. We just sat there on the couch together and talked about anything and everything.
Quoting songs from or favorite bands, or poems in Logan's case.
Telling jokes no one understands, except us two.
We talked about the things we'll do when we get out of school.
I wanted to bike the Appalachian trail or learn to sail. Wouldn't that be cool?
Logan wanted to write a book. How boring...no offense to Logan.
"This is the most fun I've ever had," I mumbled.
"This is quite an enjoyable night, despite the weather conditions." Logan agreed.
"There's no where else I'd rather be," I said absentmindedly.
"Me too," Logan said, looking over at me.
I looked back at him and we made eye contact. And everything seemed to just slow down. Everything else seemed to just melt away and suddenly it was just the two of us.
Sitting barely a few inches from each other, staring into each other's eyes.
We both leaned in a bit. My eyes darted briefly down to Logan's lips and we both blushed bright red.
But in the dark, with nothing but candles lighting our faces, everything felt right. I moved in a little closer, feeling my eyes shutting ever so slightly.
This is it Patton. You're finally going to kiss Logan. Don't mess it up now.
Both of us moved in, our eyes barely lidded shut. Our lips barely grazed each other's when...
The lights turned back on.
We both jumped back, as if we finally realized what was about to happen. I could still feel the ghost of Logan's lips barely touching mine.
"I...I have to go." Logan said, quickly getting up. I felt tears fill my eyes. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to, that was wrong of me. Let's please forget that ever happened."
Logan didn't say anything else. Neither did I. I sat there in shock as Logan rushed to grab his coat and leave.
I barely moved, unable to register what had just happened. Logan almost kissed me. And than he just left.
He just left me.
I felt tears in my eyes, but I didn't want to cry. I didn't want to cry over a stupid guy.
So I called the one person I knew would be able to help. Emile.
I quickly dialed his number with shaking hands. I held the phone up to my ear, my entire body shaking now. I begged Emile silently to pick up the phone already.
And then he finally answered. I let out a breath of relief I didn't realize I was holding.
"Hey Patton,"
"Hey," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Hey babes,"
"Hey Remy," I said with a small laugh, I was on speaker phone than. I should've expected those two to be together on a Saturday night.
"So how's your date going with Logan?" Emile asked in a teasing manor, but than his breath hitched and he let out a gasp. It was quickly followed by a hushed, "Remy stop, you're gonna get us caught."
"What are you two doing?" I asked with a sigh, but grateful to think about anything other than Logan. But the thought of how well their relationship worked made me feel sad and lonely.
There was no response on the other end for a while. There was some hushed whispered and kissing sounds. And than I heard what sounded like someone picking up the phone.
"Look, Patton, babes, I love ya, but I'm trying to make out with my boyfriend here. Emile's parents aren't home and I didn't want to be interrupted."
"I'm sorry," I breathed out, all the sadness resurfacing. My parents abandoning me for yet another week. And now Logan just completely rejecting me.
"Patton, is something wrong?" Emile asked, instantly noticing that I wasn't acting like my normal self.
"Something happened," I chocked out, and then I started sobbing.
~~le magical time skip~~
Someone knocking frantically on the door snapped me out of my thoughts. They were very bad thoughts...about how I feel about myself...
"It's Emile and Remy!" Called Emile's voice from the door. He sounded worried.
"Door unlocked," I yelled back. There was silence for a little while, but then the door slammed open and Remy came marching in with all hell's fury behind him.
"WHAT DID THAT FUCKING NERD DO TO YOU?!" He yelled. "AND WHERE THE FUCK IS HE?! CAUSE IM GONNA HAVE TO FIGHT HIM NOW!"
"Please, no fighting." I told him. Emile came over and pulled me into a tight hug.
"I'm so sorry Patton," He mumbled, rocking back and forth. I cried into his chest, just relishing in the feeling of someone actually hugging me.
"I'm sorry," I mumbled. "For ruining you guy's date."
"Hey! Look at me," Remy snapped, making Emile and I both look at him. "If that nerd ever pulls any shit like that again, you tell us. I don't care what else is going on, I absolutely will drop everything I'm doing and go fight him."
"Violence is not the answer Remy," Emile scolded him.
"Your right, violence isn't the answer," Remy agreed. "Murder is."
Emile and I just started at Remy dumbfoundedly. He burst out laughing.
"How about we don't talk about murder," Emile said sternly. "And comfort Patton."
"Yeah, I'll go get some ice cream," Remy said, wondering into the kitchen.
The rest of the night was spent watching cliche old romance movies and eating ice cream.
But no matter what Emile and Remy tried, I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened between Logan and I.
