Remy POV
"I love you," I mumbled, pressing kisses all over Emile's neck.
"Love you too," He told me. "But I'm trying to work."
"But I love you," I whined, slipping my hands up his sweater.
"And I have an AP English paper to write that's worth a big portion of my grade," Emile argued. "I'm not stoping until I get this done."
"You told me it wasn't due for like a week!" I accused.
"I need to get a head start," He said softly, more focused on his wok than me.
"It's an early Saturday morning and you're spending it studying!" I sighed. "I am confusion!"
"This isn't fun," I complained. I flopped over onto his bed and wrapped myself around his waist. Emile sighed and just rested his binder on my head.
I grabbed the book he had to read for this essay. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. No clue what that books about.
"You should read that," Emile told me, tapping the book with his pencil. "It's an amazing book."
"Have you met me?" I deadpanned. "You think I'm gonna read this shit?"
Emile looked at me over the rim of his glasses and sighed. I glared back until he went back to his work.
"Stop working so much," I tried to tell him. "Let me love you."
"I'd rather not fail," Emile responded, typing away.
"Babe," I whined in a long drawn out way.
"No," He said sternly.
"You're mean," I pouted, rolling away from him.
"I'm so sorry I actually want to pass my class," Emile said sarcastically.
"You're cute when you try to be sarcastic," I teased with a flirtatious smirk.
Emile blushed heavily and quickly looked away. I laughed a little and poked his side. He just huffed and tried to ignore me.
"Oh you love me," I laughed.
"Maybe," He teased, giggling a little.
I quickly shot up and grabbed the back of his head. I kissed him roughly, easily sliding my tongue into his mouth.
Emile let out a soft moan and quickly returned the kiss. Without disconnecting our kiss, I pushed his school stuff out of his lap and kneeled over him.
Then I pushed him back into the bed and looked over him with a smirk. Emile raised an eyebrow at me, seemingly annoyed.
"Really?" He asked. "Are you just horny or something?"
"No," I told him. "I'm bored and I don't like being ignored."
"I'm not ignoring you," Emile said. "I just want to get my essay done."
I let out a long sigh and collapsed onto his chest. Emile squeaked in surprise and tried to push me up.
"You're squishing me," Emile laughed, trying to wiggle out from beneath me.
I placed my elbows above his shoulders on the bed. Then I propped my head up on my hands and tried to take some of my weight off him.
"Gimmie a kiss and than I'll stop bothering you," I told him.
"You're not bothering me," He said with a frown.
"Gimme a kiss and I'll stop being an annoying asshole," I mended.
"Don't say that about yourself," Emile chastised.
"For now," I sighed, pressing a kiss to his nose. "You're too cute."
Emile just sighed and rolled his eyes. But there was a soft smile on his lips and a loving look in his eyes.
Then he moved up and pressed a kiss to my lips. I smiled into the kiss and returned it instantly.
We stayed like that for a while. It was like the world shrunk down to just the two of us. Everything was perfect.
"Remy!" Emile's Mom yelled from downstairs. "Emile! Come down here right now!"
"She sounds upset," I commented when we pulled apart.
"Yeah," Emile agreed. "Let's get down there quickly."
I pushed myself up off Emile and headed towards the door. Emile followed, slipping his hand into mine.
We headed down the hall and towards the stairs. But I paused at the top and a jolt of panic shot through me.
Emile's Mom was standing there at the front door with a police officer.
What have I done now? I haven't been in any bars or clubs since I started dating Emile. I haven't shoplifted anything since either.
Slowly, I led the way down the stairs. I unconsciously tightened my grip on Emile. I don't know why I'm so freaked out by a cop.
We stopped at the bottom of the stairs. Emile's mom looked distraught but also confused. The police officer was taller and more muscular than me.
"Are you Remy Dormir?" He asked me in a gruff voice.
"Yeah," I answered, not meaning for my voice to be so quiet.
"I'm sorry," He said, surprising me. "I'm here to inform you that your mother died in a car crash around four am this morning."
My jaw dropped and I felt my breath leave my body. The news hit me like a bag of bricks. Right in the face.
"What?" I whispered.
"Your Mother was speeding while drunk. It was dark out and the roads are still bad from the snow. But she was driving without her headlights on and ran a red light," The police officer explained. "A semi truck hit her car head on. They tried to revive her but she died upon impact."
"Oh," Was all I could say. I leaned against the wall and slid down it.
I felt her death deep in my chest but I cried no tears. She wasn't worth crying over. She was an abusive mother. A part of me is glad that she's gone and can't hurt me.
But than I started crying anyways. For the mom I wished I had. The reality of this situation. I'm all alone now. I have no more blood relatives.
Emile was quickly at my side, pulling my face towards his chest. I held tightly to him and cried softly. Emile gently ran his hand through my hair.
"I'm sorry that this happened," The police officer repeated. "We have the driver of the semi in custody. Would you like to press charges towards him for accidental manslaughter?"
"No," I said sternly. "It was an accident. I'm not letting my mom ruin another person's life."
"Can you elaborate on that?" He asked.
"She wasn't a good mom," I shrugged. "She screwed a lot of people over. This driver shouldn't pay because she drove while drunk."
"Well okay than," The police officer said. He looked very confused. "If that's all, I'll be on my way. Sorry for your loss."
The police officer left pretty quickly after that. Emile's mom looked at me with confusion and sympathy.
"I'm so sorry Remy," She told me softly.
"It's fine," I mumbled.
"I'll leave you two alone," She said. Then she walked down the hallway and it was just Emile and I.
"How upset are you about this?" Emile asked softly.
"She deserves to die. She was a horrible person and one shit mother," I said angrily. "But...I never got to make amends. To move on. It shouldn't, but it hurts."
"You're missing something that never happened," He mumbled. "You're wishing for how you wish your mom was like."
"I guess so," I whispered.
"Remy she hurt you so much," Emile started. "Why are your mourning her death so much?"
"She was still my mom!" I yelled. "I'm all alone now! I have no more living relatives that I know of!"
"I'm here, you're not alone," Emile tried to say.
I stood up angrily, clenching and unclenching my hands. Now angry tears were falling down my face quickly.
"Why do you put up with me?!" I asked him angrily. "I'm such a fuck up and so was my mom. I'm going to end up just like her."
"I love you," Emile said softly. "You're not going to end up like her. You're better than her."
"You don't get it!" I yelled. "You have the perfect life! Your parents are together and they love you! You actually have a dad that stayed! Your mom cares about you and loves you! You've never been starving and cold because no one gives a shit about you! You have no idea what I'm like! You have no idea what it's like to be me! You're perfect! With your grades and your family and this house. I'm not like you!"
"Remy..." Emile whispered but he trailed off. There were tears in his eyes.
"Just stop!" I screamed at him. "Leave me alone!"
I turned and stormed out of the house. The door slammed shut behind me but not even a second later it opened it.
I started running. Running away from everyone and everything. I could hear Emile following and screaming after me.
But I didn't care. I don't care anymore. I don't care about anything. I don't care about myself.
The sidewalk ended but I kept running. I didn't care that I was running across a main road. I just wanted to escape.
"Remy watch out!" Emile screamed, his voice high and grief stricken. "No!"
The honk of a car horn. The screech of tires against the road. Pain. Darkness.
