Logically Thinking
Logan POV
How's the college applications going?" Asked Father in a gruff voice.
"Excellent." I told him, taking a sip from my coffee. "I already have offers from Princeton and Stanford."
Father dropped the book he was reading and glared at me. I looked over to mother to see that she also looked disappointed.
"That's it?" Asked Father angrily. "I will only accept Harvard. Get into that school or else. Princeton and Stanford aren't good enough."
"I'm disappointed that all you can manage." Said Mother sadly. "You need to follow in our footsteps Logan and get into Harvard."
I nodded, not wanting to argue. I looked over to the clock. I stood up and cleared my spot at the table.
I grabbed my bookbag and headed to the garage. Once I was in my car, I sighed. Sometimes I really just hated my parents.
I do my best. I try so hard to live up to their expectations. But having parents that both graduated from Harvard, my mother being one of the best doctors in the state and my father being a very important government figure who worked with the President from time to time really makes it tough to do anything that I want to do.
I love learning, don't get me wrong. They just have such expectations. I'm already the valedictorian at school, a straight A student, and receiving many letters of acceptance from multiple very good colleges across the country.
But it still isn't good enough for them.

I arrived to school. I parked my car and headed towards the main doors. I passed a shaking boy, sitting under a tree.
It was Virgil. We used to be good friends, but sadly we drifted apart when high school started. I fell into a group of smart students and began to focus more on my studies, while Virgil just gave up in life.
I wanted to be friends with him again but it was difficult now. He pushed everyone away. We didn't have very similar interests now anyways.
I ignored him and headed into the school and to my locker. I quickly grabbed my things and headed to first period. I was the first one in the classroom, as always.

"Good afternoon Miss. Robins." I called to the teacher as I entered my last period class.
"Hello Logan." She smiled at me. I was a huge teacher's pet. The teachers either loved me or hated me. I had a habit of correcting teachers in class if they were wrong.
Miss. Robins was one of the teachers that loved me. She was my science teacher. Despite having already taken all the science classes and excelling all of them, I was taking the regular life science course that the rest of my classmates were taking.
I sat down at my usual spot in the front of the classroom. Slowly, tired students started milling into the classroom.
Than someone who often caught my eye walked in. Patton Emerson. His two friends, Emile Picani and Remy Dormir followed him into the classroom.
Well, he only caught my eye because I noticed that I seemed to catch his eye all the time. He wasn't very good at hiding all the times he would look at me. I caught him glancing over at me a lot.
The bell rang, snapping me out of my thoughts. Miss Robins started the lesson. We were doing an experiment today. She explained the experiment. It turned out the experiment was that cliche thing that you see in books and movies.
You have to pair up with someone and take care of an egg, like it was your child. We were just supposed to see what types of environments the egg would thrive best in while also having to care for another organism, but of course everyone had to make it a more romantic than platonic activity.
"Okay, partner up. I don't care with who and gender doesn't matter." She said. I stood up and headed over to Patton, Emile and Remy.
"Salutations Patton." I said, getting the attention of the three of them. "I was wondering if you would like to be partners for this project."
"What?" Asked Patton nervously, turning bright red. "Don't you have...smarter friends to work with?"
"I do, but I'd much rather partner with you." I explained. "I remember last year we were partners for the end of the year project, and it worked out quite well."
Patton stared up at me, blushing a bright red. He didn't say anything. I looked at him expectantly, hoping he'd agree to work with me. Remy sighed and put his feet up on the desk, while wrapping his arm around Emile.
"He'd love to work with you." Said Remy with a laugh. "I'll work with Emile, you can work with Mr. Smarty Pants."
"Name calling, how mature." I said disdainfully. Remy pushed Patton up out of his seat.
Patton followed me and sat down at my desk. He looked nervous to be over here with me. He kept glancing back to his two friends.
"If you'd rather work with someone else, you may leave." I told him, returning with the egg.
"No!" Said Patton quickly. I sat down and looked up at him as he flushed bright red. "I just don't see why you want to work with someone stupid like me." He added on quickly, with an awkward laugh.
"I don't mind your company or working with you." I assured him. "Also, your not stupid."
"Really?" He asked hopefully.
"Yes." I told him. "Now we need to work on this assignment."
"Of course." Patton said gleefully. "Let's get to work." I read through the rubric again, hoping I didn't miss any key details.
"The rubric gives us nothing, other than just to make sure the egg doesn't break." I explained. "We can take turns on who has the egg on what days."
"We should name it!" Said Patton with a squeal.
"Are we sure that's a good idea?" I asked, worried the poor boy might get too attached to the egg. I knew that naming something can cause you to be more attached to something. That wouldn't be good if the egg broke.
"Well he's out little guy...so he needs a name." Patton said with a bubbly smile. I smiled softly at him before nodding.
"I guess...there's nothing logically wrong with naming our egg." I admitted slowly. Patton let out another squeal and seemed to bounce up in his chair.
"How about...Sir Squiggles." Patton suggested with a smile.
"Sir...Squiggles?" I repeated, looking back and forth between the egg and Patton.
"Pleeeeaaaassseeee Logan." Patton begged. "We can call him Squiggles for short."
"Alright." I sighed, not wanting to hurt his feelings. "But we need to work on who takes care of...Squiggles on which day."
"We can alternate days." Patton suggested.
"Who want to carry him around today?" I asked.
"I can't over the weekend, my parents aren't home." Patton said softly. He grabbed the egg and held it in his hands, looking at it wistfully.
"Why does your parents absence from your house not allow you to take an egg home?" I asked.
"This is a project we'll have to work on outside of school. So if I took it, you'd have to come to my house and that's strictly forbidden when my parents aren't home."
"Okay." I said. "I'll take the egg for the weekend than."
"We should get together over the weekend to plan out stuff for Squiggles." Said Patton, laying the egg on the desk. "He needs a bed."
"Why don't you come over to my house for dinner tomorrow night." I asked. "My parents wouldn't mind."
"Really?" Asked Patton, perking up.
"I don't see why not." I told him. "Hand me your phone." Patton looked at me in confusion but still discreetly handed me his phone.
I quickly put my phone number into his contacts and passed it back to him. Luckily, the teacher didn't notice us with his phone out.
"I'll text you when to come over." I told him. Patton smiled brightly, looking back up at me.

I was by my locker after class, gathering my books to head home. A hand slammed against the locker door next to mine. I jumped slightly, looking to see Remy. I gave him a glare.
"Do you need something?" I asked him. Remy took a step closer to me, towering over me because of his heels.
"I just wanted to tell you to chill." He told me, glaring down at me.
"What?" I asked, trying not to show that he was scaring me.
"Patton's a nice, caring guy." Said Remy. "So don't go playing with his feelings."
"I'm not." I told him sternly. Remy let out a long sigh.
"Seriously dude, don't mess with him like that." Remy said while leaning against the locker.
"I'm not messing with him, I just simply wish to be his friend." Remy looked at me as I said that.
"But Patton likes..." Remy started to say but trailed off.
"I'm well aware that Patton feels a sort of romantic attraction towards me." I told him. Remy breathed a sigh of relief. "As much as I am aware of your strong romantic attraction towards Emile."
Remy stopped and looked taken aback by what I said. His mouth dropped open and he flushed a bright red, his sunglasses momentarily sliding down his nose.
"How did you...?" He started to ask, but trailed off.
"Your not very good at hiding it." I told him, stifling a laugh. "Emile might not see it, but the rest of the school can tell that you have been pining for him for a while now."
"Okay, but than why suddenly be Patton's partner in class." He asked, trying to get me to stop talking about Emile. "Especially such a project as romantic as raising a egg." I smirked at his embarrassment but mentally sighed at his choice of words and incorrect grammar.
"I don't feel many emotions, there is something that is drawing me to Patton." I admitted. "It's the same reason you wanted to work with Emile." Remy started smiling.
"You should sit with us at lunch on Monday." Remy told me. "I'm totes going to set you two up now."
I closed my locker and looked at him over the rim of my glasses. I raised an eyebrow. He sighed.
"Fiiiinnneeee." He whined. "I won't do anything about this amazingness than." With that he turned and sauntered down the hallway while swinging his hips.
I sighed. Knowing that Remy wasn't going to listen and he is probably setting up some big plan right now.
