Logan POV
I let out a long sigh and rested my forehead on the steering wheel of my car. After all the drama of trying to find Quinn this past day has been too much.

Virgil called all of us yesterday that Quinn ran away. He showed everyone the box of photos and the tape recorder. Then we all split up and tried to find him.

We never found him.

Quinn never showed up to school today. It was an unexcused absence from school. He never got in touch with anyone and no ones seen him.

Everyone's been on edge, which I understand, but it's as if this friends group can't go a day without drama. Now Damien, Evan, Remus and Virgil are all having breakdowns and blaming themselves.

It's almost 11 pm at night because Quinn still hasn't come back. Most of them think that Quinn killed himself and we just haven't able to find the body. I believe he's just hiding out somewhere because of how often he expressed that he wanted to be left alone.

I forced myself to get out of my car and walk up to my house. I could see the shadows of my parents in the window. They probably aren't very happy that I'm home so late on a school night.

Mother and Father were on me instantly when I opened the door. I felt a pool of something, which I later realized was dread, pooling in my stomach.

"Where were you?" Mother asked.

"You know you're not allowed to be out this late on a school night," Father added.

"I was helping my friends," I answered.

"With what?" Father asked. "Because if it wasn't about school, it's not worth it."

"Friends are important," I argued. "They needed help."

Mother slapped me. Hard. Across the cheek.

I let out a little gasp and put my hand to my cheek. It was burning in pain. Mother glared at me with anger in her eyes.

"Nothing is more important than school," She growled. "You need to study and work hard if you want to get into Harvard! These stupid friends of yours are absolutely ridiculous. I don't want you hanging out with them anymore. They'll make you homosexual and stupid just like them."

My hand curled into a fist and I dug my fingernails into my palms. So much of a burning hot emotion filled me. This is anger. I recognize this feeling from when Patton and I weren't getting along.

"I can hang out with who I want," I argued. "They make me happy."

This time my father slapped me. Across the other cheek.

My face was burning with pain. I could tell I was red in the face but I don't know if it's from
the slaps, the anger, of the embarrassment.

"Who cares about happiness when there's money to be made?" He yelled angrily. "You need to get to college and get a job so that you will be successful in life. Happiness won't make you successful!"

"You don't know anything about being happy," I whispered but instantly regretted it.

Mother grabbed my roughly by the arm. She pulled me up the stairs and down towards my room. I almost lost my balance multiple times.

"We provide you with food, water, shelter and clothes. And this is how you repay us?!" She screamed. "You are grounded until further notice! You will not leave his house except for school related activities!"

I yanked my arm from her grasp. Mother let out an offend gasp and tried to grab my arm again. Despite being completely unathletic, I managed to dodge all of her grabs.

"You can't treat me like that anymore Mother, I'm a legal adult now," I told her.

"You are my child," She said sternly. "You listen to your mother!"

"Logan!" She yelled, slapping me again. "What is wrong with you?!"

"I grew up Mother," I hissed, holding my stinging cheek. "I finally got out of this house and this mindset. I'm finally realizing that there's so much more then this. Knowledge is important, but it's nothing with happiness."

"You don't know what you're saying," Mother argued.

"Yes I do," I said, trying to control my emotions. "I have friends. I have a boyfriend, who I love very much. His name is Patton and he makes me so incredibly happy. He makes me feel safer and more in love then I ever have living in this house."

"This...Patton...is nothing to you," Father said behind me. I jumped in shock when I realized he heard me. "You'll find a woman that will fix you. You'll go to Harvard and be successful like your mother and I."

"What this is," I growled, pointing between the two. "I don't want. Patton makes me happy. My friends make me happy. I'm not abandoning any of them."

"We'll fix you," Father said lowly, an unspoken threats shining in his eyes.

Before I lost my temper even more, I pushed past him and headed down the stairs. Grabbing my keys, I ran down to my car outside.

I didn't even realize that I was crying until I paused for a moment to start my car. I quickly wiped the troublesome tears away and started my car.

I forced myself to calm down on my way to Patton's house. The last thing he needs right now is me bothering him with my own problems.

Patton tries to help everyone. I don't need help. I have my emotions under control and I'll be okay. This is just a bump in the road and it's nothing worth making a big deal over.

When I pulled into the driveway of Patton's house, there was a car parked in it that I didn't recognize.

Confused, I got out of the car faster. I quickly headed up to the front door. I was about to knock but a scream cut me off.

"How dare you get a dog!" A female voice screamed. I then recognized that the voice was Patton's Mom.

"It's just a dog!" Patton's voice yelled back.

"You can't having a dog!" Patton's Dad screamed next.

There was the sound of a slap and then a brief moment of silence. But then the barking of a dog and a man's scream of pain.

"Get this fucking dog out of my house!" Patton's Dad yelled.

"She's staying with me!" Patton yelled back.

"Get out!" His Mom screamed in a high pitched voice.

Suddenly the door opened and I was met with a sobbing Patton. Marigold was barking and going crazy next to him.

He looked surprised to see me but then the sound of footsteps running towards the door made Patton bolt.

Marigold followed quickly as best as she could with her bad leg. I shut the door quickly and followed Patton.

He collapsed sobbing in the driveway. I knelt down next to him and pulled him into a hug. Marigold laid down and rested her head in Patton's lap.

"Why are they back?" I asked, looking at the car.

"I don't know,"  Patton sobbed.  "They just showed up and they were already drunk and then they got so angry when they saw Marigold."

"I'm so sorry Patton,"  I told him sincerely.  I pressed a soft kiss to his forehead and gently tried to wipe away his tears.

"Are you okay?"  He asked me, looking at me with tears eyes.  "You're never out this late."

"I'm fine Patton,"  I said.
