Virgil POV
I sighed and looked around at the hospital around me. It felt vaguely like New Dawn but it was much better looking. I followed the nurse up a set of stairs towards a sitting room.

"Please wait here Mr. Pierce," She told me, motioning towards the large space.

Yet again I was reminded of New Dawn. This place was like the judgment room. Lots of couches and chairs. Plants and fairy lights. Very soft and aesthetically pleasing. Other patients and people filled the room along with a few nurses.

I sat down at a chair by a large window. The cup of coffee in my hand suddenly didn't look very appetizing.

While walking through this place, I was happy this was were mom ended up. As much as I wished she helped me, I knew she really wasn't there anymore after Evangeline died.

And as angry as I am with Roman, I'm more than thankful that his parents are helping me pay for this. I wouldn't be able to afford such a nice hospital for her.

The nurse walked back, Mom trailing slowly behind. She was wearing a simple white nightgown. Her hair was pulled up in a very messy bun at the nape of her neck.

She sat down across from me on the other couch.  She looked tired but a spark of recognition flared in her eye when she saw me.

"Virgil,"  She said softly with a smile.

"Hey Mom,"  I started awkwardly.  "How are you doing today?"

"I'm okay,"  She shrugged.  "They let me go out into the garden today so that was nice."

"That's good,"  I mumbled.

We were silent.  This always happens when I come to talk to her.  A minute or so of small talk, than silence and then I'll leave.

There's so much I want to ask her.  Why she never helped me.  Why she didn't try to do more?  Why she let Evangeline's death destroy her.  If she still loves me?

"Virgil,"  Mom whispered.

"Yeah?"  I asked.

"Something's bothering you,"  She said.  "You're upset.  What's wrong?"

"There's a lot going wrong,"  I laughed sadly.

She tilted her head a bit and for a split second she looked like the Mom from when I was younger.  The Mom that did anything to keep Dad away from Evangeline and I.  That baked cookies and sang.  Who would let us sleep in her bed when Dad didn't come home.

"Are you still dating that boy...oh what was his name,"  She mumbled.  "Romano?"

"Roman,"  I couldn't help but laugh, despite that being what Dad called Roman.

"He's treating you well, right?"  She asked.

"We aren't on speaking terms,"  I mumbled.  "He lied to me."

"About what?"  She questioned.

"I was in an accident and I didn't remember what happened,"  I explained.  "He lied to me about what happened.  He said he wanted to protect me.  Both from the truth and possible outcomes of the truth being known."

"Lies don't mean a loss of love."  Mom said softly, actually looking me in the eye.

"Yes they can,"  I argued.  "Dad lied to you a lot about a lot of things."

"Don't bring that asshole up,"  She said lowly, glaring viciously at the coffee table between us.

"I'm sorry,"  I whispered.  "There's just so much I don't understand."

"About what?"  Mom asked, all anger gone almost instantly.

"Do you love me?"  I asked her.

"Of course, you're my child,"  She told me, tilting her head in confusion.

"But you stoped caring after Evangeline died,"  I reminded her.  "Like I didn't exist anymore."

"Virgil, I did a lot of bad things,"  She said.  "I was a really bad mother.  I let your father control me and once Evangeline died, I gave up.  There was no hope.  That man was going to destroy our family no matter what.  He killed her.  He killed my daughter."

"Why didn't you protect me like you did Evangeline?"  I asked, slightly angry now.

"I'm a bad mother,"  She repeated.  "I let grief control me and by than I had fallen to hard into my antidepressants.  I was so afraid of him and I knew I couldn't protect you.  If I angered him, he'd take it out on you."

We were silent again.  I don't know what to say.  That didn't really answer my questions.  I wanted to know if she actually loves me anymore.

"Mom?"  I whispered.

"Yes Virgil?"  She asked.

"Do you still love me?"  I asked.  "Do you still care that I'm your child?"

"Yes Virgil,"  She repeated, looking me in the eye.

I looked down at the floor.  I had no clue if she was lying or not.  She was too good at it.  There was no emotion in her eyes.

"You should go to Roman,"  She suggested.  "I don't want you to be alone anymore."

"He lied to me Mom,"  I argued.

"He said he was trying to protect you,"  She countered.  "He helped you.  He cares about you.  I could tell from the first day I met him."

"Mom-"

"Go to him Virgil,"  She pleased.  "We both know I'm no good.  You need him.  I know he'll take care of you."

"Lying to me isn't a show of love or care,"  I tried to argue.

"Don't make my mistakes,"  Mom begged.  "He loves you and you know it."

"But-"

But Mom stood up abruptly.  There was an anger in her eyes.

"You know he cares about you,"  She said angrily.  "Don't run from him because he made a stupid mistake while trying to protect your feelings.  Talk to him before you decide to throw this relationship away."

With that, she turned and marched away.  She walked back to where the nurse that brought her in was standing.  Than they disappeared back down the patient hallways.

I just stared at the coffee table in shock.  What do I do now?"

~•~

I knocked on the door to Roman's house.  After a minute or so, Remus opened the door.  He raised an eyebrow upon seeing me.

"Is Roman home?"  I asked.

"Yeah, he hasn't left since you decided to take a break,"  Remus answered lowly.

My anxiety spiked and I tried my best to now cower away from him.  Remus can be scary.  Especially if he's angry.

"Can I see him?"  I asked.

"No,"  Remus said, shutting the door.

"Please,"  I begged, trying to stop him from closing the door.

"Remus,"  Said a soft voice from behind the door.  "It's not our relationship to control.  Let them talk."

The door opened again now Evan was there.  Remus scowled at me from where he was leaning against the wall.

Evan opened the door for me.  I quickly brushed past them, seeing Damien and Quinn in the living room out of my peripheral vision.

I headed up the stairs quickly.  As I  got to Roman's room, I started hearing music.  When I reached his room, I was able to tell that it was Fall For You by Secondhand Serenade.

Knocking first, I pushed the door open. And I should've expecting this considering that it's Roman, the more dramatic person every

Roman was lying on his bed and crying. A tub of ice cream in front of him. All the curtains where drawn. He was wearing my hoodie I left here and there was a picture of Roman and I lying next to him on the bed.

"Holy shit," I breathed as Roman shot up in embarrassment. His face turned even more red than it already was from the crying.

It's been three days and he's still like this. I only had two mental breakdowns so far. Which I a record for me.

"What are you doing here?" He demanded.

I walked over to his dresser and paused the music blaring from his phone. Than I looked at him and sighed.

"This is sad," I sighed, motioning to him.

Roman sniffled and tried to wipe all the tears from his cheeks. He quickly tried to hide the ice cream and picture as if I hadn't already seen them.

"Why are you here?" He asked, softer this time. But I could still hear anger in his void.

"I'm sorry," I mumbled. Roman froze in shock and looked over at me.

"What?" He whispered.

"I shouldn't have put so much distance between us over this," I admitted. "I was angry and upset over a lot of things and I ended up taking it out on you. I'm sorry. I've had time to think, and I understand why you did it I guess. I forgive you for lying to me and I'm sorry I freaked out."

"Are...are you serious?" Roman asked, wide eyed.

"Yes, Ro," I told him. "If you don't hate me, can we repair this and keep dating?"

Roman jumped off the bed and ran to me. He picked me up and spun me around. He was smiling and pressing kisses all over my face.

"Thank you, I'm so sorry, yes I love you, please don't leave again," He rambled. "I'm sorry. I love you Virgil.

"Love you too Roman," I said before bringing him down for a kiss.
