Don't let fear keep us apart

TRIGGER WARNINGS : seizures, catcalling, hitting, blood, religious talk ig, epilepsy, alcohol

Damien POV
"No,"  I said sternly, pulling the bottle from Remus.

"Why not?"  Remus whined.  "I'm old enough."

"You said you were going to get clean,"  I argued.  "That includes alcohol."

"C'mon, just one sip,"  He begged, making grabby hands.

I just stared at him silently, refusing to give him back the bottle.  I came home from school only to find Remus trying to get into the alcohol cabinet.

"I'm not letting you drink,"  I told him.

I shoved the bottle back in the cabinet and locked it.  I took the key and slipped it into my pocket.  I'll have to find a place to hide it later.

Remus frowned and looked longingly at the bottles.  I grabbed his arm and pulled him with me to the living room.

"Please,"  Remus begged again.  "We can get drunk and just forget about all of this."

"I'm not letting you relapse,"  I said.

Sighing, I sat down on the couch.  I pulled Remus down with me and held him tightly so he couldn't get back up.

"When's Evan getting back?"  Remus asked, finally excepting I wasn't going to let him get drunk.

"We have about a half hour before we have to leave and go pick him up from school,"  I told him.

"Can't he drive?"  He complained.

"He can But he doesn't have a car,"  I explained.

"That sucks,"  Remus sighed.  "Can we watched Bates Motel?  It's on Netflix."

"I've never heard of that show,"  I mumbled while reaching for the remote.

"It's a great show, but for mature audiences if ya catch my drift,"  He laughed.

"So not something Evan would want to watch?"  I asked, laughing a bit.

"He's too innocent for this show,"  Remus replied.

I started the first episode and relaxed back into the couch a bit.  We sat in silence, just watching the show for about twenty minutes.

But then came a knock on the door.  I pushed myself back up and peered at the window to the porch.

When I saw who it was, I quickly launched myself off he couch.  Remus ended up getting shoved into the floor, followed by a string of cuss words.

I bolted to the front door and swung the door open.  Quinn flinched at how sudden and loud it was.  But there he was.  After two days of him technically being missing, he's back.

Without even thinking, I farted forewords and pulled him into a tight hug.  Quinn returned the hug and buried his face in the crook of my neck.

The two of us just stood there for a while, holding onto each other.  I didn't realize how much I missed him.  But I'm just so relieved to know that he's okay.

"Are you okay?"  I asked when we finally pulled apart a bit.

"I'm sorry,"  Quinn mumbled.  He didn't look to be in a talkative mood.  He looked extremely depressed.

"No ones mad,"  I told him.  "I'm sorry I didn't talk to you about any of this first and then tried to force you into two relationships you weren't comfortable with."

"It's fine,"  He sighed, just holding tightly to me.  "I'm sorry I threw so many fits and then ran away."

"What happened when you were gone?"  I asked, moving him so he had to look me in the eyes.  "Did you hurt yourself."

Quinn just shrugged in response.  I gently moved my hands down to his forearms and pulled up the sleeves of his sweater.  His forearms were covered in old bloodied bandages.

"How long ago?"  I asked.

"Day after Valentines,"  Quinn mumbled.  It's been a while but those bandages need to be changed as soon as possible.

"Did you try to kill yourself?"  I asked as gently as possible.

He just shrugged again, absolutely refusing to make eye contact.  He's hiding something and not doing a good job at it.

"How many times?"  I asked.  He held up two fingers and I felt my heart drop.

"Did it just not work or did someone stop you?"  I asked.

Worry and sadness were eating at me.  I upset him.  I love him.  I shouldn't be doing things that hurt him.  What kind of boyfriend am I?

"Someone from our school the first time, his name is Thomas."  Quinn said.  "Virgil found me the second time."

"I'm sorry,"  I whispered, about to cry.  I just pulled him in for another hug.  I held him tightly, telling myself over and over that it was okay because he's here and alive now.

We were silent, even when we finally pulled apart.  I looked over at Remus who was standing awkwardly a few feet from us.

Then, surprisingly, Quinn darted over and hugged Remus tightly.  Remus looked up at me in shock.

I was just as surprised to.  Quinn doesn't like being touched usually.  And he's letting Remus touch him and even hug him.

Slowly Remus started to hug Quinn back.  Remus looked incredibly happy at the moment, a huge smile gracing his face.  He was holding Quinn gently, like a fragile package that could break if he was too rough.

"I'm so sorry,"  Quinn mumbled.  "I was a complete bitch to you.  I didn't even give you a chance.  I let my mind act before I could actually think things through."

"It's okay," Remus told him. "I don't hate you for it."

They pulled apart and Quinn was furiously trying to wipe his tears away. I walked over and pulled the two into a group hug.

"Lets get those arms rewrapped and then we can all go pick up Evan from school," I suggest when we pulled apart.

Quinn nodded a bit and followed me to the kitchen. I picked him up and put him on the counter. Remus stood with him while I rummaged around for the bandages.

I finally found them and then I walked back to Quinn. The bandages on his arm were impossible to pull off so I grabbed some scissors.

Very gently and slowly, I cut the bandages off. Quinn flinched a lot in pain during the process which worried me.

I gasped a little when I saw his arms. They were covered in dried blood. But the long gashes going down them that I recognized from when he scratches himself too badly.

I pulled his arms under the sink and turned the water on. I gently washed the blood off and did my best to clean the wounds. I worried they might be infected.

Once I was satisfied, I dried off his arms and grabbed the bandages. I rewrapped his arms methodically. I wish I didn't have to know how to do this because of how badly Virgil used to cut himself.

Quinn smiled a bit at me. I pulled him down for a quick kiss. Then I helped him down. I think things are going to be okay

"Quinn, you're the only person that's been here," I said, getting his attention from where he was sitting in the backseat. "I need you to tell me where to go."

Evan's school is huge. It's comprised of many giant brick buildings, all connected through big gardens and courtyards. There was even a huge wrought iron fence around the entire campus.

"Take a right here," He mumbled. "Keep going straight and then you'll reach the main doors and the parking lot."

"None of us can go straight," Remus said. "We're all gay."

I laughed a little at that. The joke never really gets old. I followed Quinn's instructions and eventually we parked in the parking lot. There were lots of people here. Schoolchildren and parents.

"How many grades are here?" I asked, looking at the massive group of people.

"Preschool through high school," Quinn answered. "It's the only catholic school around for hours too, that why it's so big."

"Looks haunted," Remus commented.

"Probably," Quinn agreed.

Then he got out of the car so Remus and I followed him towards the main door. Quinn held tightly to me, obviously not liking the big crowd.

We stood waiting in the crowd for about ten minutes without Evan showing up. Parents and kids started to disperse and leave.

Quinn gave me a worried look but I just shrugged. I checked my phone but no messages from Evan either.

Another five minutes later but still no sign of Evan. This started to make me really worried. I just want the four of us safe and back at my house.

"I have an idea where he might be," Quinn mumbled.

He headed through the remaining crowd towards the side of the school. We followed a long path that lead over to a smaller building with what looked like a full stage behind it.

We took a path that lead to the far side of the building. As we got closer, I started to here soft piano music. We rounded the corner and there was Evan.

There was a very large and pretty white gazebo. Large pots of flowers and vines were hanging off the sides. A black grand piano was in the middle of the gazebo and Evan was sitting at it.

Evan was the only person around. It didn't look like he noticed us yet. The piano music lasted for a while and then he started singing.

"Come back to me with all your heart
Don't let fear keep us apart,

"Trees do bend though straight and tall
So must we to others' call,

"Long have I waited for
Your coming home to me
And living deeply our new lives,

"The wilderness will lead you
To the place where I will speak,

"Integrity and justice
With tenderness
You shall know,

"Long have I waited for
Your coming home to me
And living deeply our new lives,

"Come back to me with all your heart
Don't let fear keep us apart,

"Long have I waited for
Your coming home to me
And living deeply our new lives,

"Long have I waited for
Your coming home to me
And living deeply our new lives,

"Come back to me with all your heart
Don't let fear keep us apart
Long have I waited for,

"Your coming home to me
And living deeply our new lives,"

The song lyrics fitted our situation almost perfectly. Evan's voice was beautiful too. The three of us were about to call to him when three other people showed up.

"Hey twitchy freak!" Screamed the hyper one.

"Come here pretty boy," Another said with a smirk while grabbing his crotch.

Then I recognized them. The guys I beat up the day I first met Evan. These three were bullying them.

I felt Quinn flinch and he recognized them. He grabbed onto my righty and I could feel him shaking.

Anger filled me and I could tell that Remus was getting angry too. But none of us moved yet. Quinn looked too petrified to move anyway.

He three hopped up to Evan. They just smirked suspiciously at him, staying silent. I clenched my hand that wasn't holding Quinn.

"Looks can be pleasing," The tallest one, their leader, said, running a hand through Evan's hand. Then he pretended to shake and seize. "But oh so deceiving."

The hyper one grabbed Evan roughly by the hair. He dragged Evan from the piano, making him stumble and knock over the piano bench.

He dragged him to the stairs and then shoved Evan down them. He cried out as his face smacked into the concrete.

"Don't fight them, there's cameras," Quinn mumbled.

Instantly I ran to Evan's side. I shoved the three from him and picked Evan up. Before they could properly react, I bolted.

Evan was sobbing and twitching in my arms. Quinn and Remus followed me quickly. We silently ran back to my car.

I gently set Evan down on the pavement but he was obviously about to have some sort of seizure. But then his body did one big violent twitch, followed by smaller little muscle spasms.

"Myoclonic seizure," Quinn mumbled. "He'll be fine."

We were all silent until the seizure passed. But it ended pretty quickly. Evan looked up at Quinn in confusion before jolting upwards to hug him.

The two held onto each other for a while, both crying a little. I knelt down next to them and pulled them both into my arms.

Remus stood there awkwardly until I grabbed his hand and pulled him down into the pile. He sat across from me and we cradled the two smaller ones in between us.

Quinn leaned his head on Remus's shoulder which made Remus send me another shocked but happy smile. I think he's finally starting to warm up to Remus.

I smiled happily and just held tightly to the other three. It'll be okay.
