TRIGGER WARNINGS :

Patton POV
"What do you want?"  The obviously exhausted barista asked.  Her makeup was smudged and it looked like she had been crying.  I felt bad for her.

"A vanilla latte with whipped cream, please,"  I told her.  "And a frosted sugar cookie."

"A white chocolate mocha with rainbow sprinkles, please,"  Emile said next.  "And I'll have a chocolate chip cookie."

Emile and I are getting coffee.  It's a day for us to hang out.  Finally have a get together as best friends since all this started.  Which was literally the start of the school year.  It's almost the end of the school year now.

The barista nodded and gave us the price.  Both Emile and I pulled out our wallets.  Matching pastel galaxy wallets we bought from Justice our freshman year when we first started questioning out sexual orientation.  It's a long story...

But that also reminded me of how pastel we dress now. I had a baby blue t-shirt with white overalls that had little blue stars on them. My pastel galaxy converse. Emile had on white jeans, a pink t-shirt and coffee brown cardigan.

"No, I'm paying,"  I told him.

"Patton, I can buy our coffee,"  He told me.

"No, I'm not letting you pay for me,"  I said, trying to bypass him to the register.

We both just stared at each other for a few seconds.  Both too nice to let the other pay for our drinks.  The barista sighed.

"I can split the bill between you two,"  She said with an annoyed voice.  "Way to be stereotypical gays."

That sure was a way to put a damper on our moods.  We let her split the bill and then waited for our coffees.

But that mood instantly changed when a more buff girl with short hair walked it.  She leaned across the counter and kissed the tired barista who seemed very happy again.  The short haired girl talked to the shorter girl who looked ready to cry or pass out. Poor exhausted college students.

"It's not our business," Emile told me, grabbing my arms and dragging me to a booth by the window.

Emile and I shared a knowing look before going back to our coffee.  I took a sip and looked out the window at the clouds.

"Have you started college applications?"  I asked Emile.  "Logan's been on wild goose hunt trying to find a college that will accept my dumbness."

"You are not dumb,"  Emile told me.

"I never said that,"  I lied.

"Patton, please don't lie about yourself," He said. "You are smart."

"Whatever," I sighed.

"Patton," Emile said, slipping his hand into mine. "We're hanging out today and if you keep taking bad about yourself, I'm going to have to fight you."

"I see what you did there," I laughed.

"Good, and yes I'm almost done with my applications to the state college," Emile said. "Remy doesn't want to go to college so he's getting jobs and looking for apartments for us to rent."

"That's adorable," I teased with a smirk.

"Says the person living with his boyfriend," Emile teased right back. "Oh, and the dog they adopted together."

"You live with Remy!" I accused while laughing and blushing.

"And my parents!" He told me, also blushing now. "It's just you two in that house."

"Oh my goodness, you're acting like it's the scandal of the century," I laughed.

We looked at each other for a few seconds before bursting out laughing. I love having Emile as my best friend. I don't know what I'd do without him.

"I vote actually going to the art museum after this," Emile suggested. "There's a traveling exhibit on Van Gogh there."

"That's be mean to go without Quinn," I mumbled, trying not to laugh.

"You're right, you're right," He laughed. "There's literally nothing to do in this tiny town."

"Agreed,"  I sighed.

"The park?" Emile mumbled, obviously running out of ideas.

"Too much drama has happened there," I quickly said.

"Yep," Emile realized with a sigh.

"How about we go shopping," I suggested with a shrug. "Walk down Main Street and go into all those weird little shops."

"Best idea we've had yet today," He laughed, raising his cup slightly in a cheer.

"C'mon, let's go," I said, standing up happily. "We can bring our coffees."

Emile followed me to the door of the coffee shop. But when I opened the door, Evan was there. He jumped a bit in surprise but quickly smiled. He was wearing a long white skirt with a blush pink blouse. A flower crown of morning glories on his head.

He was released from the hospital a few days ago now that his memory is resorted. And I totally bragged about true loves kiss being the cure to Logan. Evan's supposed to be sticking with one of his boyfriends but here he is alone.

"Oh, hey kiddo," I said happily.

"I'm not that much younger than you," Evan smiled jokingly.

"What are you doing out and about?" Emile asked.

"Me day," Evan answered. "I like being babied and pampered but Remus and Damien have taken it too far. I just needed some time to myself.  It took me a good hours just to convince them to let me leave."

"We can leave you alone than," I told him.

"No, I don't mind hanging out with you two," Evan quickly said.

"We can be the three beansketeers," Emile laughed. "Ya know, like the three musketeers."

"I like that name," I smiled.

"Let me get some tea and then I'll join you two," Evan said before quickly heading over to the register.

A few minutes later, Evan was back with a peppermint tea despite it not being in season anymore.

We headed outside and into the warm spring air. Everything was finally warming back up, the snows completely gone and all the plants are coming back.

We were about to head into the small book store when Emile's phone rang. It was Remy.  He was talking with Remy who seemed to be worried or upset about something.  Emile ended the phone call and turned to the two of us with a sigh.

"I have to go home, Remy desperately needs me,"  Emile sighed.  "Something about 'code coffee'.  I have no clue what that means."

Emile POV
I walked up to my house, surprised to see a cop car and a black car that I didn't recognize in my driveway.

Worry filled me and I quickly headed up to the front door.  I unlocked the door and stepped inside.  I'm a little worried now since Mom and Dad aren't supposed to be home right now.

"Emile?"  Remy's voice came from the kitchen.  "Is that you?"

"Yeah!"  I yelled back.

I headed into the kitchen to see Remy sitting at the table across from a police man and a man in a suit.  There was an open brief case laid on the table.

"Emile, right?"  The man said, standing up and holding his hand out to me.  I nodded 'yes' and shook his hand.

"My name is Mr. Bodulier, and this is Officer Holton,"  The man in the suit said.  "Remy said he didn't want us to tell him what we wanted until someone else was present."

"What's going on?"  I asked.

"This has to do with the death of Mrs. Dormir, Remy's mom,"  Mr. Bodulier explained.

"Oh,"  I mumbled, now understanding why Remy seemed so distressed during the phone call.

"With younger children left after an accident like this,"  Mr. Bodulier continued.  "Even though we are aware that Remy is eighteen.  But we have rules we follow and we usually follow up on finding family members for people that loose everyone in an accident."

Both Remy and I were interested now.  Remy was holding my hand tightly now.  Both scared and excited by what the officers might have dug up.

"Remy, we found your father and grandparents on your moms side,"  He said, sliding the brief case towards us.
