TRIGGER WARNINGS : death
Logan POV
For a good minute, Patton's parents and I just stared at each other. They looked both surprised and angry to see me here. There was a boiling anger growing in my chest the longer they stood there.
"Logan," Patton mom, Karen, said with a sigh. "Your parents told us they put you in a reformatory and you wouldn't be around our son anymore."
"Gay reformatories are illegal," I told them. "I was only there for 25 hours, 52 minutes and three seconds."
Patton's parents stared at me in shock for a few seconds. Most people do that when I can tell them exactly how long the amount of time an event was.
"Get away from my son," Karen said. "Chad get that faggot away from my son."
Patton's father took a a few steps towards me but I just sat there. I'm not leaving Patton's side and I'm not going to let these horrible parents near him.
"I'm going to ask you nicely to step away from my son," Chad said.
"He's not your son," I told him sternly. "You don't get to be absent from his life for the majority of his childhood and teenage years and then suddenly show up again and try to control him when he starts doing things you two don't approve of."
He stood in shock for a second before he rushed over and grabbed me by the shoulder. I quickly stood up and grabbed Chad's wrist. I was taller than him.
"I wouldn't recommend touching me," I suggested passive aggressively. "I will have no problem talking to a police officer about the many years you neglected Patton."
"They wouldn't believe a stupid teenager," He growled angrily.
"The odds don't work in your favor," I told him. "There are six people that could testify against you for hitting Patton. I'm sure Patton would also be able to explain what happened to him."
"That doesn't prove we neglected him," Chad said with a smile, as if he had won. "We left him home alone for years at a time but you have no proof."
"I'll give you three reasons as to how I do have proof," I told him. "Probably the best, there are security cameras with audio," I pointed to the little camera in the corner. "You just confessed to what you did. Hotels and motels keep track of who stays and for how long, that would help prove how long you abandoned him. And you two gamble, casinos probably don't keep track of who comes but I'm sure bartenders would recognize you. Also, considering the nearest casino is almost a day's car ride away, someone showing up daily would be proof too."
Chad walked back to his wife angrily, looking ready to punch something. Karen stared at me, wide eyed and afraid. But there was anger blazing in her eyes too.
"I'm still his mother," Karen said angrily, darting forwards. "They can't keep Patton here without my permission. He's coming with us and we're moving."
She started grabbing parts of the hospital machinery and pulling plugs and cables. She yanked the IV out of Patton's arm and tried to get the breathing tube off.
Panic stabbed through my chest right as Patton's heart monitor started to speed up. I grabbed Karen's hands, trying to stop her. She was going to kill Patton by doing this.
But Chad came over and grabbed me. He picked me up and held me back. I struggled, kicking my legs back but Chad was stronger than me.
Karen got the breathing tube off of Patton and almost instantly his heart monitor spiked. Patton started shaking violently and he was obviously having trouble breathing.
Panic made me stronger somehow and I managed to struggle out of Chad's arm. I jumped forwards and pressed the button to call a nurse repeatedly.
But then Patton's heart monitor started to flatline, the continuous sound of the beeping sounded horrible. Then Patton completely stilled and he went into cardiac arrest.
Karen stepped back and her eyes widened in fear. A nurse followed by a doctor rushed into the room. The doctor rushed to Patton but then stepped back upon realizing all the medical equipment keeping him alive had been pulled out.
"Who did this?" He asked angrily.
"I did!" Karen screamed. "All those drugs are unnatural! You don't know how horribly these medicines are!"
"Ma'am," The doctor said calmly. "You can not take someone off life support without a doctors permission."
The doctor then turned to Patton and started getting the breathing tube to work again. The nurse fixed the IV but Karen smacked it out of her hand.
"I'm his mother!" She yelled. "These drugs are unnatural!"
"They're saving his life!" I said loudly, trying to not get too worked up. "You aren't allowed to get high off of drugs that do harm your body and then refuse to allow Patton life saving medicines that work."
"Get out," She told me.
"I'm going to need everyone to leave," The doctor interrupted us. She was trying desperately to stabilize Patton. "Get me an adrenaline shot." She then said to a nurse.
The nurse went running off somewhere. The doctor started giving Patton CPR. Patton's parents finally backed off and stood against the wall in shock. The nurse finally returned with a box with a couple syringes in it. She quickly got one ready and then administered it to Patton.
"Get a defibrillator ready," The doctor told the nurses. She continued to give Patton CPR and then gave him another adrenaline shot.
I sat down in the chair, my heart actually in pain. The continuous sound of Patton's heart monitor flatlining was starting to drive me crazy. If I loose Patton...
The defibrillator was ready and the doctor picked up the pads. The nurse turned it on to the lowest setting. The other nurse opened the front of Patton's hospital gown.
"Clear!" The doctor yelled, placing the pads on Patton's chest. Patton arched up and then fell back to the hospital bed.
Slowly but surly, his heart monitor started beeping again.
I let out a sigh of relief I didn't know I was holding. Patton was in cardiac arrest for 11 minutes and 34 seconds. Any longer and he probably would've died.
The doctor completely fixed Patton's breathing tube and started the machine again. She then turned to Patton's parents with an angry face.
"If you'll come with me, I'll be escorting you to the police," She told them. "You legally can not take someone off life support like that and there will be serious repercussions for this."
Karen sputtered angrily, obviously not sure how to get out of this. Chad looked angry but then stalked out of the room.
"I want to speak to the manager!" Karen yelled angrily.
"Ma'am," The doctor sighed, clearly annoyed. "I work 24 hour shifts in the emergency ward. I do not have time for this. Now come with me."
The doctor left the room, the nurses trailing behind quickly. Giggling to each other and gossiping about what just happened. Karen huffed angrily, glaring at Patton and I before walking out of the room angrily.
I let out a long sigh and rested my face in my hands. Then I broke down into sobs again now that no one except Patton's sleeping form was around.
When I finally composed myself, which took almost ten minutes, I dragged my chair back over to Patton's bedside. I slipped my hand back into his. Again, it was too cold in my opinion.
"Patton," I started slowly. "I don't know what I'm saying, I don't care for sentiment. There's just so much I've been thinking about."
I fell back to silence, honesty afraid to speak my thoughts. It's ridiculous and sentimental and hopefully and emotional. A lot of adjectives I usually don't use for things that I do.
"I need you," I whispered. "I don't want to loose you. There's so much that we need to go through. Marigold needs you...even though she's just a dog. We were going to buy a house together once we moved away for college. I was going to get to take care of you and come home to you every day. We'd get married and eventually grow old together. I know you want that too because you talk about it so much but you think I don't hear you."
I trailed off, unsure what to say next. I laid my head down on the bed, still holding Patton's hand tightly. I started crying again.
"Please wake up Patton," I begged. "I need you. I love you."
And then...Patton's eyes opened.
