11 - Where It Began

"Taehyung, can I borrow your car?"

His car had come to a rolling stop on his stone driveway way, his attention turning to your question as soon as he parked.

"Y/n, you're a mess, how can I let you go anywhere like this?" He asked softly, gazing into your bloodshot eyes.

He wasn't wrong. You indeed were a mess. Your tears had just dried up and it was only because you were forcing yourself to stop crying silently in the car.

Your heart hurt. Your soul felt like it was being torn apart, as if the fact that you were back in the same town wasn’t bad enough. You had just given your daughter away to her father, who you haven't seen in eight years. Your heart was aching with the hollowness that had formed as soon as you watched her get into his car with red eyes and tear stained cheeks that stared at you.

You could barely look away as you tried silently while letting her go, only to see the pain written all over her face.

You wanted to hug her, and brush your fingers through her hair to sooth her, but you knew that it wasn’t an option for you at all.

You were doing what was best for her, even if it meant possibly never seeing her again.

"I'm fine," you sniff, blinking away the new set of tears, "I just need to go somewhere."

"Let me drive you there then." Taehyung suggested with a gentle voice, understanding the pain that you were currently going through. If only he also knew the reason.

You shook your head immediately.

"No, I...I have to go alone." You spoke, looking up at him with pleading eyes, "Please?"

The car filled with silence for a moment before Taehyung let out a sigh, looking out his window for a moment as he considered the odds. After a few seconds he finally nodded, unbuckling his seat belt with tight lips.

"Alright, fine. Just, please be careful okay?"

"Okay. Thank you so much." You gave him a small smile and got out of the car to get to the driver's side. He handed you the keys and let you take his place.

“Don’t go too far okay? And don’t be too late.” He spoke to you through the rolled down window, giving you a look of both worry and care.

“Okay.” You nod before he finally took a step back to let you go. You started the car and began walking away, Taehyung watching after you with his hands resting on his hips.

“Please be safe.” he breathed.

The tires of the car rolled against the dirt road that led through the forest of tall trees. It was still mid day, yet the shadows lurking within the woods made it seem as if night time was nearing, but you didn’t care.

Ever since you had stepped into the town, there was one place that seemed to be calling you through a quiet whisper. It lured your soul, wanting you to come, along with the memories that it left behind.

The road winded through the woods, climbing the small mountain amongst the trees. You drove silently, your eyes flickering from one place to another to possibly spot it any moment.

Why did you want to be there so much? You didn’t know. It seemed more of a call of destiny rather than anything else.

Swallowing the lump in your throat, your eyes finally landed on the place you were looking for. The place where it all ended and a new beginning was born.

The car came to a stop in front of the small cottage-like building hidden in the midst of the forest and its secret driveway.

Most would never notice it when driving by, but you did. You could never forget it.

You stepped out of the car, the door slamming closed behind you as you stood there next to the car, gazing up at the building you would have perhaps called home.

It was never given the chance to be your home. You wished it had.

You wet your lips, your throat suddenly dry. You began taking slow steps towards the front door, your heart rate increasing as you neared.

The small wooden cottage seemed worn down and untouched in several years. It made you wonder if it had been used at all ever since the events that had taken place.

Maybe he could have sold it, or maybe he kept it in hopes of letting it rot away, just like your love seemed to have within him.

The floorboards creaked under your weight as you climbed the two steps to the door, your hand reaching out to the knob and twisting it. The door clicked.

You didn’t notice the breath that you were holding as you stepped into the cottage, your eyes wandering around the plain wooden walls.

Nothing had changed.

The same bed from eight years ago was tucked in the corner, the once clean sheets now coloured with dirt and stains of age. Some cabinets, a stove, and sink were placed across from it, a dresser to its left along with another door that you knew led to the bathroom.

Nothing had changed at all.

He hadn’t changed anything at all.

Your eyes began to water as your lips quivered, the memories of what you had lived eight years ago still fresh in your memories as if just yesterday.

You wished that it had never happened, that that night hadn’t gone the way that it had. Perhaps it was your fault or his, or just maybe your fate being written amongst the stars.

Night had casted over the town many hours ago, but the clock was just striking midnight. Although many would assume everyone was far off into dreamland, not everyone was, especially not Jungkook nor you.

“It’s not much, I know, but this is all I could do for now.” his lips pursed into a thin line as he watched you gaze up at the small cottage hidden among the trees, far from the sight of anyone, just like you both wanted.

You turned your stare from the cottage and to your lover instead, threading your fingers through his.

“I love it.” you spoke, smiling up at him and watched as his own smile made an appearance.

His eyes glimmered under the dark night, small star-like specs gazing into your own. His hand squeezed yours before taking a step forward and way from the car eagerly, causing you to giggle.

“Wait, my dress!”

You fisted the skirt of your white gown to not get it dirty as you stepped forward to follow him, only to find yourself in his arms seconds after, letting out a squeal as you clutched onto his suit.

He chuckled at your reaction with a grin and continued on his way to the front door as you wrapped your arms around his neck instead.

He climbed the steps onto the porch, letting you back down onto the ground to pull out the keys in his back pocket. He gave you a look filled with both excitement and nervousness just as he slipped the key into the lock and turned it. The door clicked open.

He turned the knob, pushing the door open after to reveal the inside. You stepped in first, looking around while he entered right after you, closing the door.

The inside was very simple with barely any furniture at all. A single bed and dresser was placed in the corner across from you, along with a miniature kitchen to the left. A small table occupied a spot near the kitchen with two chairs, right next to a window.

It was small, you couldn’t deny, especially compared to all the homes you had lived in while traveling the world due to your father’s job. But it was manageable and perfect for just the two of you.

You were too busy observing the interior of your new home to notice the tall figure that had stepped towards you from behind until his arms had slipped around your waist.

Jungkook leaned into your neck, his breath tickling your skin with each release of air. You melted into his warm embrace, placing your hands over his that rested over your stomach.

You were finally married. This was your new beginning.

You both stood there for a moment, letting everything sink in with separate smiles spread along your lips.

You couldn’t wait for what the future had in hand.

If only fate wasn't so quiet.
