1. A New Beginning
The day was bright and warm, birds chirping their songs as the leaves of the trees swayed in the wind softly due to the light breeze. In other words, the day was just perfect in Seoul, in all aspects. It was neither too hot nor cold, not a single cloud in sight that could make someone believe that it was anything but a good day, except for the single dark rain cloud that hung over Jeon Jungkook's head.
For him, the day was anything but a good one. It was the day he had been dreadfully waiting for, and to his luck, it had already arrived. It was as if a ton was placed on his shoulders, expecting him to carry it with him the entire day; letting it weigh him down until he passed out from physical and mental exhaustion.
He didn't want to be here. He didn't want to be anywhere near anyone but himself. He just wanted to be alone for once to make his own decisions. Was it too much to ask for?
Apparently so.
A heavy sigh left the man's lips as he tried to erase the thoughts running through his head. Knowing that what was done was done, he knew he had no choice but to keep going.
He took a small step back from here he stood, feeling the wooden flooring slightly creak under his weight. His eyes slowly trailed up the mirror before him, his reflection staring right back at him once glancing at the dark doe eyes that belonged to himself. He admired the way the black suit fit him, hiding the toned muscles that he owned underneath the smooth fabric. He eyed the pink flower that was attached to his suit jacket and the perfectly done bow near his throat. His hair was done perfectly and his shoes shined in the light. He knew that all eyes were going to be on him, as always, especially the girls' who loved to giggle as he walked past.
The wooden door creaked open, revealing a head with blonde hair and a small smile.
"Hey, are you ready?" the door was pushed further open, the man inviting himself in as he neared his best friend.
"Yeah" Jungkook forced out, feeling a lump in his throat form. Was that a good enough excuse? To say that he had a sore throat, so that they could cancel the wedding? Probably not.
Turning his attention away from the mirror, he turned to the blonde standing behind him.
"If anything, you look amazing." Taehyung tried to melt the thick ice in the room.
A dry "Thanks" left Jungkook's lips as he tried to force a smile for his friend, but he knew that Taehyung would be able to see through it. He always did.
Taehyung's eyes softened and the corners of his lips fell. He knew that this wedding was the last thing that Jungkook wanted, and to his luck, Jungkook was the groom himself.
Placing a comforting hand on his childhood best friend's shoulder, Taehyung finally got him to look at his eyes.
"Look," he began softly, knowing to be careful on the subject "maybe this is finally your chance to move on. Maybe it's time for you to have a fresh start on your life and finally be happy with someone else. You might not like her now, but who knows, you might grow to love her one day. Just believe in yourself and give her a chance, not everyone is the same."
Letting out another sigh, Jungkook nodded his head "You're right." he muttered.
"I know I am, I'm always right." a playful smile spread along Taehyung's lips as he gave his friend a light push. "Now turn that frown upside down cause no one wants to see a grumpy groom on his wedding day, especially not your wife-to-be."
Jungkook scoffed, yet a smile still managed to tug at his lips.
"I'll wait for you outside, don't take too long." Taehyung said lastly before turning towards the door to leave, but felt a tug on his wrist.
"Wait," Jungkook spoke, stopping him. Taehyung turned back to him. "Thanks for everything."
"Anything for you bro."
The two men stared at each other with smiles plastered on their faces before Jungkook finally pulled his friend into a hug. Tae patted his back before letting go of each other.
"Now, c'mon or you're going to be late for your own wedding." he spoke and dragged his best friend with him out of the house, the both of them chuckling. They spotted the limo waiting in front of the house and got in, soon after driving off.
---
It had nearly been an hour since Jungkook had left his house with Tae and now he stood in front of many people outside, greeting guests and getting compliments from his friends and family. The decorations put out for the ceremony were truly beautiful, the flowers matching perfectly with the spring weather. A red carpet ran through the aisle by the chairs and up to the altar set outside for the ceremony. Guests spoke to each other, wondering how the bride's dress was, and the fun that would take place after the vows, some girls swooning over Jungkook just like how he expected. Everything was perfect, just like how it was planned out to be.
The music began to play and all the guests sat down, getting excited to finally see the bride that would soon appear. Jungkook took his place by the altar and looked ahead, watching as the flower girls and bridesmaids appeared first. Ohhh's and ahhh's were heard from the large crowd once the bride had finally appeared, her arm linked with her father's, her eyes on Jungkook with a smile. He forced a smile back, knowing it would be wrong of him to do otherwise.
"See, look how pretty Mina looks." Tae murmured to Jungkook, who just ignored his friend's comment.
The bride and her father finally got to the front where Jungkook awaited her. He reached out his hand for Mina's father to place his daughter's hand into his, as a part of tradition.
"Take good care of her son" Mr.Kang said, and Jungkook nodded with a respectful smile.
Holding Mina's hand in his, everyone waited for the moment everyone had been looking forward to.
"I now declare you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride."
Jungkook let go of Mina's hand and removed the veil that covered her face. He was aware of how pretty Mina really was, especially in the gown and makeup, which made her even more beautiful, but Jungkook didn't feel anything towards her. He felt no attraction to her.
He cupped her cheeks and pulled her closer to him, pressing his lips to hers as everyone cheered around them, yet no spark was ignited within him.
---
The after party first began with the bride and groom's dance. Jungkook held Mina in his arms as they danced together to the music, his eyes on everything else but the beautiful girl that was in awe of him. Everyone else watched the newly wed couple, admiring how nice they looked as a couple. They were all so drawn to them, that no one noticed the pair of eyes that watched from afar, except for one.
Jungkook's eyes landed on a figure watching him past the dance floor and tables set out for the party. His heart stopped, his mind racing as his body froze.
It couldn't be
He shook his head for a moment and blinked, searching for the face he saw just a second ago, but it was gone.
"Jungkook" Mina whispered to catch his attention. He looked down at her before glancing back at the now empty spot. He became aware of how everyone was now watching him in confusion.
"Oh, sorry." he muttered, noticing how he had stopped dancing. They resumed to move along to the music that continued to play, but Jungkook's mind was elsewhere. As soon as their dance was over, he excused himself to the washroom. Walking past the corner that he had spotted the figure, he grew frustrated only to find no one there. Maybe he had just hallucinated, maybe she really was never there. Maybe it was all just his imagination, but he wished it wasn't.
---
The wedding had ended hours ago, and Jungkook now sat in his new bedroom in the new house he had bought not long ago. He sat on the edge of his bed, staring off into space as he thought about that moment from the wedding. He swore that he saw her, knew that it was her, it couldn't be anyone else. He couldn't be losing his mind, it couldn't be his imagination. He was in complete denial.
Letting out a low groan, he rubbed his eyes with the palm of his hands and pulled at his hair as his elbows rested on his knees.
I wish I could see you now, I miss you
Feeling a light touch on the side of his face, he moved his hands away from his eyes to see Mina standing in front of him in a red silk robe. She smiled sweetly at him, something else hidden in her dark eyes. Pushing away his arms, she made room for herself on his lap, caressing his cheek. A bit shocked by her actions, he stayed silent as she stared into his eyes.
"Today is our wedding night Jungkook, you know what that means." her fingers trailed down his cheek and traced his jawline while her eyes hovered over his lips. His breath was caught in his throat, his eyes falling on the robe that showed her cleavage clearly. She grabbed his hand and placed it on her bare thigh and bit her lip seductively. She wrapped her arms around his neck and brought herself closer to him, tilting her head to whisper in his ear.
"Unless you don't want it" she whispered before nibbling on his earlobe.
Jungkook shut his eyes, trying to steady his breathing. This felt so wrong, but why? They were married after all. The flash of her face at the wedding appeared in his mind, and all the previous memories made with her years ago. Taehyung's words invaded his head right after.
"Maybe it's your chance to move on. Maybe it's your chance to be happy with someone else."
And maybe it was.
