THE SUMMER OF SEVENTH GRADE was the worst summer of Valentina (V, as her friends called her) Liu's life. But it was her own fault, she knew this. It was her fault for kissing a girl (Nora Kelly was her name, and Valentina still saw her in her dreams). It was her fault for getting caught. It was her fault that she was sent to a conversion therapy for the entire summer.

BUT IT WORKED, DIDN'T IT? Valentina proudly wore the title as an ex-homosexual. She was cured. It didn't stop her parents from moving them all to fuck off nowhere and away from Nora Kelly. 'So she could a clean reputation', they said. Told her it was for her own good. She listened.

AND SHE GOT HER CLEAN reputation. That's what moving to the middle of nowhere will do for you. She didn't tell anyone about the summer of seventh grade, and no one asked, because they all wanted to meet and be friends with the new girl. The summer of eighth grade was one of the best.

FRESHMAN YEAR ROLLED AROUND, AND Valentina was ecstatic when she made the cheer team. Plus, that was the year she met Ricky Berry, the boy she claimed was her one true love. Her popularity points were racking up. Freshman year was was also the year that Dina and Sydney moved, and although Valentina acknowledged them, she didn't really care, either.

LET'S GO BACK TO RICKY, though. She's been dating the boy since freshman year, and now she's a junior, and they still haven't had sex. Sure, they've kissed, but Valentina never really enjoyed it. And now it's pressuring down on her, because she's a /junior/ and a /cheerleader/. All the other girls on the squad were constantly talking about things like that. And Ricky was getting tired of it.

AND IN COME DINA, ONCE again. She's started dating the one and only Bradley Lewis, and now Valentina's seeing her everywhere.

AND MAYBE THAT THERAPY wasn't as effective as they thought it was.
