Chapter 1

Grian and Pearl were hanging out in the overworld.

It had been a month since they had met, Grian had met some of Pearl's friends and they all got along great.

"I'm thinking about getting some players together and starting an SMP," Grian told Pearl.

"Really? What kind? Is there a certain idea for it or is it going to be a regular survival world?" Pearl asked him.

"I'm going to see if we can do something like a historical thing where we would be like a hundred years in the past and then later we would find a way to be 90 years in the past, just without it actually being 10 years for us," Grian explained and played with a leaf.

"Wow, is that possible?" Pearl asked and she chewed on her hoodie strings. Pearl didn't have much to tell if she was a watcher. But she doesn't have wings in the overworld. She also acts like she's a little more on the inside.

"I don't have a damn clue. I've been asking my mums and they said that if I can get through basic admin training then I can start it up and they'll help see if it is possible," even with so little hope, Grian couldn't mask his excitement at all and his wings poofed up and he began to bounce a bit.

Pearl laughed at her cousin.

Grian laughed as well. "Of course, they're also having me do my proper research into how the servers used to work, just so we don't starve on the first day. Did you know that beds weren't created for about a century after the first server? Or that they wouldn't give you a good night's sleep even if there were no monsters?"

Pearl leans back, "I did not know that."

"Did you know that the night used to be even darker than it is now? And that players started to wonder about deities when the moon suddenly got brighter?" Grian asked.

"I didn't know that either."

"Look, I know some things you don't know."

"I know them now."

"...well shit." Grian had his mother's potty mouth sometimes, something that Avis wasn't very happy about when it started showing.

Pearl sits up, "So," she started, "what did players do if they were caught outside before beds were good?"

"They ran, they dug holes, or they died," Grian says.

"Oh."

About a month later, Xelqua's mothers came to him in person.

"Oh my sweet little egg, off to go and be an admin on a server of his very own!" Avis cooed. She was proud of her son.

Xelqua put on his new green hat. He decided that it might be funny if he went on his new server all dressed up. "I couldn't have done it without either of you!" He said.

Victoria chuckled, "You're the one who came up with the idea, son." She looked him up and down. "You're really going to start a server looking like that?" She asked.

Xelqua laughed, "You're seeing me off in that?"

Victoria looked down at her clothes. "What's wrong with them?"

"You always wear that! I'm going for a change of scenery," Xelqua smiled.

Avis chuckled, "You're both pretty in anything you wear."

Xelqua hugged her, "I'll miss you, Muzza." Xelqua hugged Victoria, "I'll miss you too, Mum."

Victoria and Avis smile, their son was all grown up now. Victoria wraps her arms around her wife and son and kisses his forehead. "We'll be watching you, to make sure everything stays the way we think it should. Keep your own eyes open for anything out of the ordinary."

Avis kneels and kisses her son's cheek. "What your mom is actually saying is that she wants you to have fun."

Victoria nods. "Have fun, kid. Now, go gather up your friends and leave, don't want to keep the server waiting."

Grian nods, "I love you guys." Grian turns tail and leaves.

Grian finds the group not too far away. Pearl was very busy so she couldn't make it just yet, but that would be okay. Grian made a portal to the new server.

The group stepped through the portal. Some things didn't feel quite right, but Grian chalked it all up to being nervous.

They stood around the symbol of the watchers that was on the ground. It should have calmed him, knowing that his parents were watching, but it didn't. He took a deep breath. It felt like there might be something in the air that made things smell weird, or maybe in the ground. But Grian brushed it off.

"Welcome to Minecraft Evolution."

Grian hoped that the anxiety he felt was just anxiety. The last thing he wants is for this to go badly for him and hurt all of his friends.

Grian explained some of the basic things about the server. The Evolutionists knew most things already, but he just wanted to cover every corner that he should as their admin, after all, this had never been done before, he'd know, he asked his parents and every other watcher who would answer.

The group split up to explore the new server and Grian stayed at spawn.

Grian looked through the code of the server on his admin tablet. In his eyes, nothing looked out of the ordinary. He was about to put the tablet away when he finally noticed something. It was the date.

"Oh no. Oh fuck. OHHHH FUCK. MUM. MUZZA. Oh shiitttt. Damn damn damn. FUCK!!" Grian wasn't quite yelling.

The cursing was valid.

Grian and his parents had worked out a system for the updates. But that was only planning for a century where they go decade by decade. They were prepared for that.

But the date wasn't that of 100 years ago.

It was more like 1000 years ago.

Grian kept swearing, not taking a break to breathe.

Watchers may have been masters of time, but this might be hard to fix, even though his parents are the leaders.

Grian whispered. "Fuck." He passed out. Maybe it was because he used all of his air cursing, maybe it was because of the shock, didn't matter. If anything, it made things easier for him, he could try to find his parents and ask for advice. Maybe they already had an answer for this.
