Chapter 5
Nevaeh's P.O.V
Uggh. Sometimes Chase and Karter could be pains. I love them. Don't get me wrong. I just wished that they would stop bashing the idea of Ronnie and I being a thing. It could totally happen! Why won't they see it as possible?
I plopped down at my desk, dumped the remainder of my bread sticks in the bin and placed my head on my desk. I had about 10 minutes of lunch time left. I'd like to spend it on a nap. Closing my eyes, I let my imagination run wild as I conjured up images of all the places I'd rather be than at this desk.
I wonder if I could score me a job at one of those boujee banks? Is banking anything like insurance? Hmm-
"Nevaeh! Desks aren't for sleeping. Stop lazying around," Margaret the dragon's voice broke through my thoughts.
"I've got 10 minutes of free time to go Mrs. Pierce. Just resting my brain," I replied without even lifting my head.
"In that case, you can proceed to the lunch room. This shouldn't be the first thing customers see upon entering the department,"
You know she's right Nevaeh. Why do I feel like this inconvenience gives her immense pleasure?
"Of course Mrs. Pierce,"
I glanced at her as I stood up. Margaret watched me with her beady eyes.
"And Nevaeh please have those files on my desk by 2:00p.m today. I know that you're training Caleb, but there's no need to neglect your duties."
Margaret then spun on her heels and sashayed back to her den of evil a.k.a her office.
"There's no need to neglect your duties," I mocked Margaret with a face of annoyance. Rolling my eyes I plopped back down in my seat.
"I hate that woman so much. I just want to kick her up her -"
"Don't say it," a voice called from behind me.
I leaped up from my chair in such a fright that I knocked over the jar with all my pens.
I glared at Caleb. His face flushed with embarrassment.
"I didn't mean to scare you. I'm sorry. I thought you heard me walk in," he stooped down to collect my pens and pencils.
"Obviously I didn't hear you. Gosh. You gave me such a scare," I whined before folding my arms across my chest. My heart still hammering.
"I'm sorry Nevaeh. It won't happen again," Caleb gave me a little smile of reassurance.
I rolled my eyes at him and grabbed the collected items from his hand.
"What do you want?" I asked still upset.
"Nothing. I just wanted to see if you were okay. You left in such a state,"
"I'm fine. Why would you care anyways?"
"I just -"
"Wait," I interrupted, "what did those clowns say to you back there? They talked about me didn't they? They talked about Ronnie?"
"Hold up Sherlock. I've only got one brain and mouth. Yes they talked about you. The name Ronnie did come up. They didn't say anything bad though, so spare them please,"
Caleb held me in a gaze. His carmel eyes bright and alert. They looked earnest so I allowed myself to believe him.
"I'm sorry you had to see me like that back there. Chase and Karter always give me a hard time when it comes to Ronnie," I apologized with a sigh.
"You must really like this fellow?" Caleb asked. His eyebrows creased as he looked at me with concern.
I blushed besides myself, but managed a nod.
"I know it seems foolish. We've never actually spoken to each other. I just feel this connection,"
"I'm not about to throw judgement. Besides I've grown a little stale in that area. Your friends mean well. They seem to know a lot about him,"
"They think he's a bad guy because his relationships are never... umm... constant. However, it could be because he hasn't met someone good enough,"
Caleb raised an eyebrow.
"So you're gonna convert him?"
"Yes."
"I like your confidence," Caleb smiled.
I returned the gesture and then took my seat.
"Alright. What are you going to teach me now?" He asked as he pulled sat next to me.
"Hmm let's see. Assigning health polices is easy enough. Let's do that,"
Caleb nodded in agreement.
