Building a Fence

At first light 

Simon made a move

He chewed his chow

Coffee washed it down. 

At the store 

He went next 

There he bought supplies 

For the campsite. 

Wooden posts 

Barbed wire 

Hammers and nails 

Fasteners 

 Buckets 

 Shovels 

And more tools. 

Cans of beans 

Corn and ham 

Cans of apples 

Peaches and plums. 

Mr. Ger beamed 

At the stack of coins 

as the supplies

were loaded 

On the wagon. 

At the cafe

Simon grabbed some bread 

and swiftly headed 

out of town.

Before dusk 

Ewell reached 

Carson City. 

His horse 

was baked 

he made a change. 

The men 

were gathered 

And ready 

As the boss 

Had planned. 

A wagon 

Was loaded 

Guns and ammo 

Plus addition supplies. 

Chuck drove 

Tim kept an eye 

The rest rode 

Horseback 

Lead by Ewell 

Through Rocky Mountains 

Across the Patchi River 

Stopping near Tent city. 

Simon and Ewell 

Kept watch 

As the men 

Got to work. 

By noon 

The place 

Was fenced in. 

Simon rode back 

To BG 

While the others 

Set up camp 

And waited 

 For orders 

About their 

 Next move.
