Face shaved, hair cut 

Said so long to Strop 

He told me all the latest gossip 

That news meant another stop

Got wind of strangers in town

Said they had a proposition 

but they looked like crooks.'

'The one who did the talking 

wore a black hat. Very unpleasant manner, 

didn't come to chat. 

The man that scared me more 

stayed just inside the door.'

'His eyes were cold and steely blue. 

Made me shiver through and through. 

I heard him called by the name of Ewell, 

and I remember thinkingit rhymed with cruel.'

'He stayed outside, never said a word. 

But Black Hat said he'd check-in the hotel. 

Sent the others riding and that's all I heard.'

You said tomorrow the Mayor would be in.
