At the Hall

The wagon rolled up 

 to a stop 

 outside of Town Hall, 

the driver took a hop 

he flung open the door  

and slithered behind 

as a Black Hat stepped out 

with a face unkind, 

he climbed the steps 

followed by two men 

they marched in 

at half past ten. 

"We're here for the mayor 

About a business proposition."

"He ain't in so come in a day 

No one else is here in a similar position."

"It's nearly noon, Miss ... Heckler 

Surely he'll be here soon?"

"It's Mrs. Heckler and he's outta town 

You've come at time inopportune." 

"Are you certain 

he'll be here tomorrow?"

"I can't say, Mister 

We'll know on the morrow."

Blue eyes stepped forward 

 but Black Hat put a hand on his chest. 

stopping Blue eyes on his tracks, 

from his own black vest 

Black Hat pulled out a watch 

putting it away, he signaled with his left 

together they went out without a protest. 

Mrs. Meadow Heckler loosens her grip 

on the gun, as they hadn't put her to the test 

feeling relieved she made a note 

 for the Mayor about his guest. 

Outside the trio gathered 

Black Hat gave the orders 

"Dang that Mayor! 

we've got to mark the borders 

we can't let anyone else lay claim 

we'll check into the hotel, 

Tomorrow at dawn 

Simon, you ride on ahead 

Ewell, you ride back to Carson City 

I'll wait for the Mayor 

you can meet Simon at the property 

we'll finalize the deal fair and square."
