Picnic at Dangling Rock

'There's a place I know from riding out

Where usually there's no one about

I think my Sue we'll pack a hamper

Put in bread cheese and some liquor

Bring some ham and your fine cakes

Make sure you pack knives cups and plates'

Wink readied buggy and harnessed the horse

Frank 'n' Sue stepped up, set out in due course

Out to the place with some shade from the sun

Frank thought she'd worked hard and should have some fun

Blanket on the ground, no one else around

'Frank this is perfect, I'm ever so pleased

Here, have some cider to go with your cheese'

'Cheers' clink of cups, they kissed ...

That's when they heard hisssss...

And the rattle of snake near to Sue's foot

She gasped,

rigid with fear,

Sue said, 'I'm caput'

'Don't move darlin'

'I ain't'

'It'll be ok'

'I feel feint'

The rattler was coiled

Ready to strike

It's belly was empty

Fangs sharp and white

Snake caught attention of Frank as he moved

His hand to revolver an act fast and smooth

Hissing and rattling the snake moved to strike

The gun echoed loud as rattler was smite

Lifeless and limp

Frank then kicked snake away

Asked for more cider,

he then heard Sue say'....

'Frank, thank you, I hate snakes'

'Me too Sue, that one wasn't the worst'

'Well Frank, that's a strange outburst

Francis Blake, tell me what was'

'A reptile named Earl Montague Grey'

'Why is that Frank' but Frank wouldn't say

And Sue didn't reply,

but it seemed like a shadow passed over her eyes

'We need to concentrate on the hear and now
