Il Gatto Strikes (AmbergrisJane)
Il Gatto Strikes
Enzo's day was like any other
Helped at the store, groceries delivered
He went home to Tent City without event
BG has no clue as to what's to happen.
He had already packed his bag
His travel clothes laid out on the bed
His dawn train ticket, tucked in the pocket
As to what he'll do, no one suspects
Next he prepared were tools of the trade,
He hopes not to use them, but just in case.
Flannel strips dipped in a.c.e. mixture for sleep,
Hypodermic darts dipped in curare for paralysis.
Enzo donned his mask as two a.m. struck
With agile limbs he scaled the rooftops
Light as a feather, swift as the wind
He wasn't called Il Gatto for nothing
First on his list was the Burmese Ruby
Widow Callum lived alone in Tent City
It was no challenge, she slept like a log,
He's out the window with a skip and a hop.
The Brown family lived two houses away
Their silver cutlery always on display
His nimble fingers picked them per piece
The job was going in a breeze
Mrs Ger's brooch proved harder to secure
He had to use the sleeping mixture
He searched before the couple overdosed,
Found it soon enough and pranced out the door.
The rings and the bangle were next
He had doubts but liked the challenge
He scaled the hotel wall, in through their window,
Crept inside the room, hid in the shadows.
He saw the twins, both in deep slumber,
But that didn't make the job any easier,
Loren wore the bangle; it was a big risk,
Tonight, he will be content with the rings.
He found them hidden under the Mayor's clothes
Still in its box, the twin golden bands
Enzo smiled as he bagged the rings
Out the hotel as quietly as he went in
Overconfident, he waltzed into the cafe
Quickly found the room occupied by Ray
The boy snored, the locket was his,
Until he noticed something was amiss.
"Ray? Wake up. Its 3:30." A voice sleepily mumbled
Enzo realized it was the baker.
The boy still snored, but AJ saw him and stood up,
The burglar had to act fast
Enzo saw AJ realised what has happened,
The burglar still had the upper hand.
He took three darts, gauged a quick strike
Straight to the carotid, AJ fell paralyzed.
The scuffle made a slight racket,
Enough to rouse the boy from his bed
Enzo saw Ray's eyes flit from him to the floor,
The burglar was left no other choice
He easily overpowered Ray,
He was about to do him as he did AJ
But as he stuck darts on Ray's neck
Something also got planted on his leg
It was Ray's knife deep in his flesh,
Enzo's blood flowed freely from the gash,
Good thing he was mute or he would've screamed in pain
One wound for a gram of gold was worthy bargain
He then left both men crumpled on the floor
Collected the locket, and limped out the back door
From the shadow of the Pillars, he saw Gyn enter the bakery,
A few seconds more, Enzo heard the girl scream.
He felt a tinge of regret for the baker boys
But he needed to be fast, he had no choice
If left untreated, both will die
Enzo doubted they'll survive the night
The burglar knew the chapel was a no-go,
To Tent City, he must return
His loot safe, he quickly made his way,
First thing at dawn he'll be on the train.
He limped as he entered his home,
Too tired to notice his trail of blood on the ground
He cleaned and nursed his wound
It was much deeper than it looked
He tried his best to keep it from bleeding
Changed clothes with dawn approaching
Went to the station before the train arrived
Avoided people he recognised
But he heard someone call his name
"Hello, my quiet friend, good morning!"
Enzo looked up to see Will Barter,
His wide smile as fake as his garters.
Enzo tipped his hat and gave him a wave
Plastered a smile as he went on his way,
But Will Barter asked, "Are you okay?
My friend you look quite pale."
The burglar took out his pen and paper,
Scribbled, "I'm fine, good day Mr Barter."
He bid the man goodbye,
Heard the whistle as the train arrived.
He boarded, quietly took a seat,
As the train moved, a smile painted his lips
Enzo Gattuso rides out of Busted Gulch in victory
The name Il Gatto forever etched in history
