Flowers for the Bride

Flowers for the Bride

Golden hews and sagebrush green,

Blankets the desert, a heavenly scene.

Dotted about, with crimson grace,

Is the desert rose, as if made of lace.

I halt the wagon, "This is the place!

We can pick flowers at a leisurely pace."

The ladies descend, everyone is here,

Save but one...Rue...yet in our hearts she is near.

My dearest friend, Carolina Grace,

My sister Loren, such a beautiful face,

My precious Gyn, like a daughter to me,

My beloved aunt, Sue Bigbee,

And my newest friends Annie and Dixie.

A picnic with the ladies, we lay out the spread,

Muffins, fruits, jams and fresh baked bread.

There is laughter, giggling and even some tears,

As we chat our way through the past years.

This is the moment to open my heart,

I call their attention...where do I start?

"Love cannot grow, if you are all alone;

It crumbles and fades, like a piece of sandstone.

Love takes two, I have found that with Lorne,

And within that love, a family was born.

My crumbled life has now been renewed.

It is to you my dear family, I offer humble gratitude.

Thank you is not enough, but it will have to do.

I just want y'all to know, my love for you, is solid and true."

There is hugs and well wishes, and even a tear or two.

Then Aunt Bigbee presents me with a cameo on a ribbon of blue.

"This was your mother's, I kept it for you,

A picture of your parents is held within,

I thought you might wear it

As your new life, you begin."
