For Whom the Bell Tolls

The bath was divine 

After the long ride

 But the sheriff was there 

Staring at me wide-eyed. 

Then he left with Billy 

something about the mayor. 

I dressed really quick 

And rushed downstairs.

"What's going on 

What should I do?" 

To figure out this mess 

I'll have to talk to Rue. 

The halls were quiet 

 I stood outside her office 

It's time to sort things out 

no more gossip.

"Rue ... We need to talk 

Why is there a reception? 

And cake?"Is it for me? 

Did I win a prize? 

Tell me straight, for heaven's sake." 

The room was empty 

She wasn't there 

I'd burst in on no one 

Talking to thin air.

At the front desk, Satchel 

Fiddled with some keys 

"Here you go Mr. and Mrs. Stone, 

Hope everything's as you please." 

"We're sure it is," said Mr. Stone 

As he took their key 

But they stopped to listen in 

When they saw Lotta with me.

"Lotta, what's going on with the mayor? 

And where's Rue? And –" 

"Never mind all of that, dear, 

Congratulations to both of you." 

She came around from behind the desk

 And gave me a hug 

"Er ... Lotta are you alright? 

Have you come down with a bug?"

Lotta smiled at me 

But before I could speak 

There was a loud thud 

Followed by a shriek. 

I was sandwiched between 

Ron and Gyn 

"We're glad you're back" 

They said with a grin.

"I am glad to see both of you 

But what are those and that glue?" 

Ron puffed out his chest, 

"We're helping Rue." 

Gyn elbowed him to grab the things 

"We've got to go" 

They ran out of the hotel yelling 

 "We'll see you tomorrow." 

"Lotta, what were they –" 

"Never mind them 

Rue is busy with the reception 

And you should go rest some." 

She had not finished 

When the fire bell rang loud 

It was following by commotion 

Of the guests rushing out in a crowd.
