Dam Busters

The Spring Moon had come and gone and any hopes of a flood high enough to move the Liberty Belle off the Salt Marshes had gone with it.

The family sat around the table, trying to fathom out what to do about it.

No matter what they said, there was always a piece of the jigsaw that did not fit.

Jhonny even suggested they might use explosives to blow a way out. Most of the family looked at him like he was a twit.

But it brought to Denver's mind a time when they had built a dam.

Just so they could use the water as a battering ram.

He looked at Jhonny and said, perhaps your idea ain't that crazy, son.

It has given me an idea that might just get us out of this jam, and maybe we can also have a little fun.

The rest of the family looked on in amazement.

But Jhonny did not care he was full of excitement.

Bart exclaimed, "Oh come on Dad!

We know you are only humouring the lad."

The insinuation made Jhonny a little mad.

He slapped his hands on the table, it hurt like hell.

He yelled in pain; "Anybody would think I was just learning to spell!"

Missy jumped up from her chair, "Hold your horse's boys."

Looked at Bart and said, "You should know better, your father does not play with your emotions as if they were toys."

Knowing instantly he was in the wrong, he apologised to Dad and Jhonny, explaining that letting the frustration was no excuse, he should not let it get to him.

"Well Dad, are you going to tell us what we are to do, that will set the Liberty Belle free?"
