On the Move

 Myna looked up at the well-dressed man 

 Who entered the cafe 

He asked, "Are you, Mrs. Order?" 

When she answered, 

he removed his Black Hat 

and introduced himself. 

He offered condolences 

for her loss and he admitted 

"Simon worked for me 

but I have no idea why he would attack your family."

Myna accepted his words

and watched him leave,  

suspicion in her mind. 

"Simple folks 

quaint town" 

William sneered. 

He bit his cigar 

And spat on the road 

Missing the passing wagon. 

"Have we heard?" 

He asked over his shoulder. 

"Nah. Nothin boss" 

replied his helper. 

For a moment long 

They watched the street 

Then climbed the steps 

Into Town Hall. 

Mrs. Heckler was fired up 

Knitting in a frenzy 

"He's waitin' for you 

Gitty up right in." 

She said, not glancing 

At the Black Hat 

Or the two stinkers 

following him. 

Mayor Lorne stood for William 

greeting him. 

William suggested 

 "May I offer my services 

helping with the Liberty Belle 

and the steamship, 

My men are qualified stevedores."

The Mayor thanked him 

but politely refused replying 

"Everything is under control." 

William wasn't happy 

but he had no choice "My men are available 

At your service 

 whenever they are needed. 

I will be out of town 

On a business trip 

For a few days."
