Chapter II

I ended up being released a few days later. They waited for my cut on my leg to heal a little bit more so I wouldn't injure it even more.

Ryan wasn't kidding when she said my head was scratched. I had a cut running down next to my eye, which I could tell would leave a scar.

I decided I needed to look good when I was released. I mean my face was scratched, my right upper arm was as well. So to compliment the purple and red, I wore a plain white shirt, a grey jacket, regular jeans and black high top converse.

I tried to make my hair look good but let's be real it never does.

My parents came up the elevator. Audrey came running towards me with the biggest smile on her face. I got down and hugged her. She just turned eight two weeks ago but she still seemed like she was five to me.

"Hey Mom." I said as I stood up. My mom and dad waved. "Where's Ryan?"

"Downstairs talking to some boy." My mom answered. I laughed. Then I remembered my accident and how it was a boy in the other car.

I turned to the reception lady. "Hey, do you know who the other boy was in that car accident a few days ago?"

"Uh, I can figure that out for you." The lady answered. She got on her computer and typed a few things in. "Umm...it looks like he's being released today as well, but he's still here. His name is Justin, floor 6, room 63."

"Thank you." I smiled and turned to my mom. "Mind if I go talk to him?"

"Sure sweetie."

I was the only one in the elevator as I went down eight floors (yes I was floor 14). I slowly stepped out of the elevator onto the busy hospital floor. I looked around at the room numbers.

"There it is." I muttered when I found room 63. The door was opened so I took a single step in. There was a man sitting on the bed, his back facing me. "Uh, excuse me." I said.

The man slowly turned his head around. He had a very distinct jawline and brown hair. His eyebrows were very thick. He stood up, looking confused.

"Um, can I help you?" He asked.

"Yeah, are you Justin?"

"Yes."

"Oh, I'm Phoebe. I was in the other car." I told him. His eyes went from confused to concerned. So he's compassionate and cares.

That's a good sign, I guess.

"Oh I'm so sorry." He immediately told me.

"No, it's the semi's fault. Even if you didn't swerve over the semi would have hit you and you would have ended up hitting me." I stated. He made his way around the bed and over to me. "So, were you injured, well obviously you wouldn't be here if you weren't, but like, what were your injuries?"

Justin laughed. "My keys ended up flying up and slicing the bottom portion of my ear." Justin answered, turning his head to show me he bandages. "They sewed my ear back together though. Then the rest of me was just scratched. How about you?"

I lifted up my cast. "Broken wrist. But also my leg was pretty bruised and cut. Other than that nothing really."

"Well that's good." Justin said. I nodded.

"I just thought I'd come down and say hi." I finished and began to leave.

"Yeah, uh, hey wait." Justin said. I turned back around and he stuck his hands in his pockets. "It's Phoebe, right?" I nodded. "Uh...maybe, we could stay in touch. We both will have to be back here for follow up appointments so maybe you know, be each other's therapy session."

"Yeah." I smiled. "That sound great."

We exchanged numbers. I didn't know it then, but that we be my most texted number coming up here soon.

When we got downstairs we grabbed Ryan. She was just sitting alone in the waiting area. Mom and dad then went to get their car and Ryan whispered to me: "That boy I met was the biggest douche ever."

I chuckled. "They all are."

__________
The next Monday, right after school, I went to the coffee shop. I wasn't working there currently considering I'm dominate on my left so I couldn't write orders down and my cast isn't allowed around the machines so I was just enjoying my favorite order: an iced coffee with a double shot of espresso.

Jax laid his elbow down on the counter I was sitting on. It was attached to the area where all the drinks were made, which is where Jax typically works.

"May I help you?" I chuckled. Jax smiled.

"No, but I would just like to ask you to stop sitting here mocking me." Jax told me. I smiled back at him and raised my coffee to my mouth. I sipped it extremely loud and Jax rolled his eyes.

The door dings behind me and I hear someone say "Phoebe." I turn around and there is Justin, standing in the doorway.

"Oh hey Justin." I say in a cracked voice. "Um, Justin this is Jax, Jax this is Justin. Justin was in the other car in the crash." I introduced them.

"So you're the boy who nearly killed her?" Jax asked. I slapped his arm. Justin laughed and nodded.

"Yep, that would be me." Justin replied. Justin then turned back to me. "So, do you come here often?"

"Yeah, I actually work here but I'm left hand dominate." I answered. Justin nodded. "So, were you raised here?"

"No, I moved here for college." Justin answered. "Go Toledo!" I chuckled. "So, are you in college or..."

"No, I'm a senior in high school. But I'll be attending UC this fall." I answered.

"That's cool." Justin smiled.

"So...Justin, are you going to order something or just sit here flirting with her?" Jax asked. I jerked my head towards him and slapped his arm extremely hard. Jax pulled his arm back and rubbed it.

Justin smirked and walked over to the register. Jax was the one who made his drink, and I made sure to watch what he was making just to make sure he wasn't going to do anything to it.

Jax handed Justin the drink. "A tall iced coffee with a double shot of espresso." Jax said. Justin took the cup and thanked Jax.

"Iced coffee with a double shot of espresso." I repeated and held up my cup. "My favorite."

"Me too. The only warm coffee I can drink is hot chocolate." Justin told me and sat down next to me at the counter.

"I don't even like hot chocolate." I stated. Justin stared at me like I had eight heads.

"You mean to tell me that during the winter time you don't come down here and get the best hot chocolate ever?" Justin asked. I shook my head. "How are you even living?"

I laughed. "I'm a picky eater. It really sucks though. I don't like most sodas, I hate lemonade, watermelon just looks terrifying, the only meat I like is hamburgers, and so on."

"Wow, that does sound hard." Justin agreed.

"That's why I'm terrified to date. I'm worried that someone won't understand the fact that I'm a picky eater and dump me because we can't agree on a restaurant." I admitted.

"Why would someone do that?" Justin asked.

"Because they don't understand what it's like to be a picky eater. And being a picky eater is kind of hard to explain. It's basically that there are some foods that when we eat them they don't taste like food, kind of like our taste buds are more sensitive than most. Yet somehow people don't understand that and try to force me to eat foods I don't like." I explained.

"Has a boy done that to you?"

"No, I've never had a boyfriend. I had a lot of friends that I lost as I got older because I was still eating the same things I ate as a kid." I told him. "I met Jax and my other friend Sarah freshmen year and they accepted the fact that everyone's different. And that's rare for high schoolers."

"Yeah, I get that." Justin told me.

"Uh, so where did you grow up?" I asked.

"New Castle, Pennsylvania. It's about an hour north of Pittsburgh." Justin answered.

"Oh so you're only about three hours away from home." I stated.

Justin nodded. "You catch on quickly."

"I get that a lot." I told him.

We just sat quietly for a bit, sipping on our coffee. We actually ended up finishing at the same time. We kind of stared at each other for a little while.

"Um...do you want to go, hang somewhere?" Justin asked.

"Yeah. Sounds great." I answered with a smile. We both stood up, threw our cup out and headed for the door. "See ya, Jax." I called back to Jax. He turned to me and looked confused.

"Nice meeting you." Justin said. Jax waved.

"Nice meeting you too." Jax replied and we left the coffee shop. Justin led me to another black car.

"I see you already have a new car." I mentioned.

"Yeah my older brother was selling his car so when I got in the accident he just gave it to me." Justin explained. I nodded and entered the passenger side of the car.
