Sabotage
Another day, another dollar.
That's the saying, but to Edgar it felt more like a few cents. He often questioned whether his job was worth the stress, even though he knew damn well he'd never leave.
He takes one last puff off his cigarette before stomping it with his shoe, and turning down the driveway. He enters the workplace, and does his usual thing, making coffee and drinking a few sips before heading to the garage. When he opens the door he spits in shock, seeing the vehicle he finished last night taken apart.
Edgar: "The fuck?!"
He shouts and the other two mechanics shift their heads.
Edgar: "Who the fuck touched my work?! It was done!"
One of the mechanics shrugs, and another says they just got there.
Edgar: "You've gotta be kidding me.." he grumbles, and suddenly the door opens and Shane's twisted smirk can be seen across the room.
Shane: "Edgar, the boss wants to see you."
Edgar rubs his eyes, and sets his cup down before following Shane. He's smiling a lot. Almost as if he had something to do with this little sham here.
Still...this is how it went. Edgar did all the work around here, and now, they all want him gone. It only makes sense they'd try and get him fired sooner or later.
Shane gives a little wink before trailing off. Edgar can feel his nerves dwindling as he twists the cold doorknob. God why? Why him?
He takes a deep breath and enters.
Boss: "Ah, Mr. Wilson. Come, have a seat."
Edgar hangs his head a bit low, those green-yellow eyes staring over to the larger built man before closing the door behind him and having a seat directly in front of the boss.
Edgar: "Mr. Sach-"
Boss: "I assume you know why I called you in here?"
Edgar hangs his head yet again. He wanted to speak, wanted to explain that he was sabotaged, but would it even matter? It'd be his word against everyone else.
Boss: "Now, Mr. Wilson, I expected better of you. You've never given me this amount of trouble before."
There's silence for a moment.
Boss: "Do you like your job here, Mr. Wilson?"
Edgar quickly answers: "Yes, I do."
Boss: "Then why didn't you work on this vehicle yesterday? What'd you spend all day doing?"
Edgar sink's back into his seat, his legs crossing at the ankles.
Boss: "Shane said you're the only one causing problems back there."
Suddenly something in his chest snaps. Shane said? Oh Shane said that did he?
Edgar lifts his head slightly, staring straight into Mr. Sachs eyes.
Edgar: "With all due respect sir, you have no idea what really goes on back there."
Boss: "Excuse me?"
Edgar: "Nobody in this place does a goddamn thing except for me. So you get rid of me, you get rid of the only worker you've got. Now I don't know who did it, but that car was perfect when I went home last night. Maybe whoever locked up stayed behind and messed with it, I don't know, but I didn't do a damn thing wrong."
The boss sits back, quiet for a moment, like he's thinking.
Boss: "Alright."
Alright?
Edgar blinks a bit, waiting for an explanation, but he doesn't get one.
Boss: "You can go. Fix that vehicle first. If you hurry, we can pass it off this evening."
That's it? He's just letting him go scott-free?
Edgar doesn't open his mouth, instead he leaves, heading straight back to the garage, where Shane is waiting.
Shane: "What'd he do? Suspend you? Fire you?"
Edgar: "Nothing."
Shane: "N-Nothing?"
Edgar glares back at him: "Nothing."
He gets to work quickly, but he definitely noted the hostile aura in the air now.
