THE LIGHT OF A VIDEO on the computer screen flickered on the skin of Purvis Boyarsky, one step above a forty-year-old certifiable pervert at first look; it didn't get better the longer you see him.

     Standing behind him was a chain-smoking black police detective, sporting an unbelievable Afro hairdo.

     "Of course I heard the fucking gunshots," Purvis said. So I rushed over at the Maddens' house with my video camera."

     Purvis turned to the detective. "Jeezus, you think I'm a pervert who prowls after dark and looks through my neighbors' windows?"

     "Whoa, hold your fire Mr. Boyarsky," the detective said, "I didn't say anything about that."

     Purvis looked back at his video with a righteous smirk.

     The YouTube video on the computer screen: Burny, gun in hand, leaving the house in haste.

     "That's Burny Madden, son of the dead woman, stepson of the dead man," Purvis said.

     The detective leaned forward to take a closer at Burny.

     "He's a psycho," Purvis said. "I'm hundred percent sure he killed them."

     Burny getting in his truck parked in front of the house, speeding away. The film cut to a shaky shot of the scene of the dead bodies taken from outside the window. The video's title: PSYCHO KILLER MURDERS MOTHER, STEPFATHER AND CUTE DOG.

     "In less than twenty-four hours, I got over one hundred thousand YouTube likes and counting," Purvis said.

     "Impressive," the detective said.

     "That's all I have to say. If you'll excuse me, Detective, I have to go to church now."
