Chapter Five: Suspicious

(A/N: Gasp! A new update in just one day? What?!?!? Yeah, I guess you can say I got a 'burst of inspiration'. This chapter is a bit shorter though... still, it delivers! Enjoy!)

"Mitch! Get down here before I let Jerome and Adam eat your bacon!"

Mitch groaned under his covers as he heard Ian yelling from downstairs. He had to get used to getting little sleep if he was to be flying every night. Speaking of...

I still don't know if someone noticed me last night... I need to start being more aware of what I'm doing outside, and when I'm recording. No one can know about my wings. Mitch thought, groaning again as he heard Ian yell for him again. He took a quick glance at the clock, reading "10:14".

Mitch let his wings spring open behind him, which flung the sheets of off him and onto his dresser. He swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood up, stretching his arms and his wings (it was very uncomfortable trying to sleep with a big pair of wings on your back).

Mitch quickly grabbed his hoodie and slipped it over his wings before quickly running downstairs and into the kitchen. As he walked in, he saw the looks of disappointment on Jerome and Adam's faces as Ian handed him his plate of eggs and bacon.

There were different conversations echoing around the kitchen, but they were all interrupted by Ty as he slid his plate into the sink. "Hey guys? Have you seen the pool?" he said, eying the others.

"What does that mean?" Quentin asked, before stuffing more bacon into his mouth.

Ian and Jason also looked up in interest as Ty continued. "I mean, the pool has a bunch of these big white feathers floating inside of it." Ty then pulled something out of his back pocket. It was a big, shining white feather, just as he had described. But it was recognizable to a certain someone.

"OOH! That's so cool looking!" Jerome chirped. Mitch felt himself pale a bit as Jerome ran over and swiped the feather from Ty's hand. He turned it back and forth in his hand, the feather gleaming in the light. "This was in the pool?"

Ty nodded. "Yeah. They're all over the backyard too, not just the pool."

Mitch quickly stood up from his seat, and walked out of the room, excusing himself. The others watched as Mitch hurried of, listening to the footsteps of him heading to his room.

"What's up with him?" Quentin asked, still stuffing food in his mouth.

"I don't know," Adam said, reaching over and grabbing the bacon strips that Mitch had left behind and sticking one in his mouth. "But he didn't finish his bacon."

Mitch sighed as he shut and locked his door, plopping onto his office chair without even bothering taking his hoodie off. Mitch sat in silence as thoughts rushed through his head, the only sound being the soft whir of his computer and the muffled conversation in the kitchen.

Mitch felt like something had sunk in his stomach. His feathers had been strewed across the backyard, and Mitch still had the cold feeling that someone was onto him. Could Ty know? He thought to himself. No... he seemed genuinely confused about the feathers. He would have known if he had seen me. Maybe it was Adam? He did see me last night... No... he seemed surprised by the feathers too, and I did have my wings shut when he saw me. Plus, he was super sleepy, and didn't have his glasses. He's too oblivious to know. He probably would have said something by now. Same goes for Jerome. If he would've seen me, he probably would be running outside to talk to me about it.

Mitch leaned on the table, eyes scanning his desktop screen as he continued to think. So that leaves four options. Options one to three... Jason, Ian, or Quentin. Or option four. I am going insane. For my sake, I'm going to hope that it's the fourth one.

Mitch sat like that for at least an hour before someone knocked on his door, making him flinch. Not feeling like getting up, he just yelled. "Who is it?!?!?"

"Umm... it's Quentin."

Mitch sighed. "What do you want?"

"Just asking if you wanted to maybe do a Hunger Games with me?"

Mitch was about to reply when he had remembered what had happened the day before, with his wings making noise in the microphone. He quickly made up an excuse. "Sorry man, I'm just about to start recording Sky Wars."

"O-oh." He heard Quentin say sadly. "I'll go ask Jerome then."

Mitch frowned as he heard Quentin's footsteps. Mitch felt terrible that he had to lie to one of his best friends, but he had a secret to hide. Mitch looked again at his computer. "Maybe I should record Sky Wars..."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mitch put down his headphones, smiling triumphantly as he posted his video. He had a successful few Sky Wars matches, and he had kept his hoodie on his back so his wings wouldn't make any noise in the microphone. But Mitch wasn't doing that again, because at one point, when things were getting really exciting, Mitch's wings had tried to open under his jacket, and he just ended up hurting himself.

Mitch got up and unzipped his hoodie, finally letting out his aching wings. Careful not to knock anything over, Mitch walked to his dresser and grabbed his phone, checking for any messages, seeing none. He looked outside to see that the sun was beginning to set.

That's when Mitch felt it. It was like a weird feeling in the back of his mind, like something bad was about to happen... Mitch grabbed the side of his dresser and held his head, the faint feeling resonating through him. Slowly, it began to fade.

Immediately after the weird feeling passed, there was a loud crashing downstairs, followed by a loud yell. Mitch jerked up, before speedily slipping on his hoodie and running downstairs. He was the second to get to the living room, Quentin arriving before him. Mitch let out a gasp as he saw what lay in front of him.

Ty was sprawled across the floor of the living room, whose lights had gone out, with a bunch of broken glass around him, and a fallen chair next to him as well. Ty was holding his arm, a red liquid flowing slightly through his fingers.

"Ty! What happened?!?!?" Mitch asked, helping Ty up, careful not to step in the glass. The others were no beginning to run in as well...

"TY!!!" Jason yelled, running into the room, a flustered look on his face. Helping out Mitch, the two took Ty to the bathroom.

"I was just changing the light bulb, it had gone out while I was in there, but I fell off of the chair I was standing on fell over, right onto the light bulb box. Sorry bout' the mess though..." Ty said timidly as Jason rummaged through the medicine cabinets, pulling out disinfectant and bandages. He pushed Mitch aside, asking for Mitch to tell the others to stop peering from the door. He claimed that he 'couldn't focus'.

Mitch nodded and pushed the others away, repeating Jason's orders. The four eventually left to do their own things, and Jason and Ty eventually came out of the bathroom, Ty having some bandages on his arm. Jason had a triumphant smile on his face as Ty walked away, thanking the dirty blonde.

"Didn't know you were so good with medical stuff Jason!" Mitch said, a smile on his face.

Jason just smiled back, mumbling. "Well, I was taught by a very good friend of mine-"

Jason stopped mid-sentence, as if remembering a bad memory. He excused himself and walked upstairs, leaving behind a very confused Mitch. What was that about...?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mitch smiled as he walked outside, his wings flapping behind him. Mitch had contemplated whether or not it would be a good idea to fly again, with the suspicion that someone knew his secret. Mitch had decided on going out, because of his desperate need to fly. So Mitch let the wind carry him as he flew up and into the air, smiling as he circled the house, his white wings gleaming beautifully in the moonlight.

Mitch once again did what he had done on his first flight, and let his wings surround him like a missile, and rocketed to the pool surface. A foot or two above the water, Mitch sprung his wings open and did a spin over the water surface, causing a whirlpool like splash in the water, his wings keeping him from getting too wet.

Mitch became suddenly aware of the feathers that floated onto the water surface as he finished, and he hovered over the pool for a minute, his steady wingbeats keeping him suspended as he smiled at the shining feathers.

"I've got to say Mitch, that was really cool...!"

Mitch felt his heart freeze and his wings waver as he heard the voice behind him at the back door. Someone did see me... I knew it. Mitch gulped as he slowly turned to the back door, his eyes becoming wide.

"Ian...?!?!?"
