Chapter Eight: Jellybeans

"OH MY GOD THIS IS DISGUSTING!!!" Adam screamed, before bending over into the garbage bin that the seven had been passing around the group.

The day before, Ty and Quentin had found a box of Bean Boozled jellybeans in the food cabinet, and they thought of the bright idea of doing a Team Crafted challenge in their living room, each of them taking multiple jellybeans and trying their luck with the possibility of getting a bad flavor.

"It wasn't chocolate pudding Adam?" Jerome said, laughing his butt off.

"IT WAS FUDGING DOG FOOD!!!" Adam yelled, flipping Jerome off.

They all laughed, Mitch smiling as Jerome continued to taunt Adam over the bad jellybean. They have passed around the box of jellybeans twice, Mitch being the only one not yet receiving his second jellybean (he had gotten caramel popcorn on his first).

The group's overall luck was debatable, with mixed results within the group. Ty had gotten pear and smelly sock flavors, Quentin got chocolate pudding and baby wipe flavors, Jerome had gotten toothpaste and rotten eggs, Ian had gotten berry blue and lawn clippings, and Jason had been lucky and got lime and coconut. Adam had the worst luck, first getting moldy cheese, and now, dog food.

Coughing, Adam passed the box to Mitch, who gulped nervously. The others were chanting as Mitch flicked the spinner to determine what jellybean he had to choose. Mitch's eyes widened as the spinner came to a halt. "No..." he said under his breath.

"OH YES!" Jerome yelled. "LICORISE OR SKUNK SPRAY BIGGUMS!!!!!!!"

Mitch picked up the black colored jellybean, contemplating what life decisions had led him to this moment. Mitch stared at it for a moment, the others still chanting for him to eat it.

Finally, Jason's voice rose over the others, loud and clear. "Come on Mitch! Are you too chicken?!?!?"

This very much insulted Mitch. He did not like being called a chicken. He could feel one of his wings twitching a bit underneath his hoodie. He saw Ian giving him looks as well. My wings don't make me a chicken! Mitch thought confidently, feeling his left eye twitch. "I AM NOT A CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!" He screamed, before grabbing the box of jellybeans and pouring them all in his mouth.

Bad decision.

It was only a few seconds of Mitch chewing confidently and the others watching with open jaws, before the Benja was neck –deep into the trashcan, puking into it. Jerome, who was sitting next to Mitch, slapped his back as his friend continued to puke furiously into the trashcan. Jerome also figured that the yell Mitch made was a result of chugging the jellybeans, but Ian winced. Jerome had actually slapped right where Mitch's wings connected to his shoulders.

The others decided to leave the video there.

"SECOND WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE!" Mitch screamed, interrupting Adam's outro.

They eventually left the living room, heading into different parts of the house. Quentin went upstairs to edit the video, while Jerome and Adam raided the kitchen for things to clear the foul tastes from their mouths. Mitch and Ian went into the backyard.

As soon as Ian shut the door, Mitch let out a cry of pain. "My god, Jerome slaps really hard!" He said, moving his arms around a bit in an effort to stretch his wings a bit without removing his hoodie. "Right on my wing too! Geez that's painful!"

"It looked painful. Here, I grabbed this from the fridge, thought it would help wash out the taste. I was honestly thinking you might die form that." Ian said, tossing Mitch the one of the two Diet Coke cans he was holding. Mitch caught it, a grateful look on his face as he opened it and chugged the whole thing.

"By the way," Ian said, taking a sip of his soda, "you yelled that eating all of those jellybeans was the second worst decision of your life. What was your worst?"

Mitch became silent. He looked down at the ground, a grim look on his face. "Do I really need to say that?"

The look of confusion on Ian's face quickly became one of realization. "Oh Mitch, I'm so sorry! I should've-"

"It's perfectly fine Ian." Mitch interrupted, a small grin on his face. "It really isn't that bad anyways. It actually feels amazing flying through the air. It makes me feel so... I don't know... it just feels amazing. But I hate having to hide them from the others. Especially Jerome... God I hate lying to him."

Ian nodded his head. "I can see where you are coming from. I wouldn't in your situation either. But I really don't think they would see you the way you think they will."

Mitch sighed, looking into the sky, where the sun was setting. "Maybe not, but I don't want to find out."

A few moments passed of silence, before an idea popped into Mitch's mind.

"Hey Ian... Can you come out tonight before I start flying? I have an idea."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mitch quickly and quietly shut the backdoor behind him, his hoodie over his shoulder and his wings closed behind him. Ian was standing on the edge of the pool, and looked at Mitch over his shoulder as he walked out.

"I was about to head in too. It's already past midnight, and unlike you Mitch, I am not used to doing all-nighters." Ian said with a laugh as he turned around. He was wearing a comfortable looking blue shirt, with long black pants and sneakers.

"Trust me," Mitch said with a sly smile on his face. "It'll be worth it. Now turn around."

Ian rose an eyebrow, but turned toward the pool, unable to see what Mitch was doing behind him. "You might want to put this on too, so you don't get cold." Mitch handed Ian his hoodie, Ian reluctantly putting it on.

"Now, I haven't tried this before." Mitch said, putting his arms under Ian's and wrapping his arms tightly around his chest. "I am pretty sure I'll be fine though."

Ian gulped. "What? Mitch, what are you-"

That's when Mitch's wings shot open, and he flew up into the air. Ian let out a small scream as his feet were lifted from the ground and Mitch pulled him quickly into the air. "Mitch?!?!? What are you doing!!!!"

"Hold on Ian, we're going flying!" Mitch yelled as he shot across the sky, holding Ian so that he was facing the ground.

At first Ian was screaming, but the screams gradually turned into cheers as Ian felt the wind in his face, and saw the beautiful sight of the city from so high up in the sky. "I never knew you could fly this high Mitch! This is amazing!" He yelled, reaching out for a cloud, smiling as it dissipated when he touched it.

"I told you it was gonna be worth it!" Mitch yelled back, pulling himself into a flip.

Mitch eventually flew back over the house, a smile on his face. "You ready?" Mitch said, pulling Ian closer to him.

"For what?" Ian asked, looking down toward the house.

Mitch didn't reply, and he stopped flapping his wings, letting them go limp as the two plummeted to the ground headfirst. Ian let out a loud cheer, recognizing what Mitch was doing. Mitch wrapped his wings around them as they fell, aiming for the pool. A few inches before hitting the water, Mitch flipped himself upright, instantly opening his wings and spinning in a circle over the water, creating a swirl of water to surround him and Ian. Ian laughed as the spray hit him, a wide smile on his face even as Mitch lowered him back to the ground.

"Awesome?" Mitch asked, a huge smile on his face.

"Awesome." Ian said, an wearing an even bigger smile.
