CHAPTER 18: DAYBREAK

DISCLAIMER: WILL I GO ON AN ADVENTURE AND FIND A MAGICAL TREASURE THAT CAN SOMEHOW TRANSFER ME INTO THE BNHA WORLD? SADLY NO, BECAUSE THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS MAGIC, AND I DON'T OWN THE ANIME *cries* T^T

A/N: I sincerely apologize for the unintentional year, almost two, long hiatus that I took, but life's pretty hectic and I hardly had time to sit down and write a chapter. But I am back!

Chapter 18: Daybreak
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

THIRD POV
THE NEXT TWO days breezed by quickly as the rest of Class 1A picked their offered internships. Saturday and Sunday was like a hazy dream to Kasai as she barely recalls it, nothing interesting and just bland enough to blend into the background, long forgotten. All for the sole fact that her attention was directed towards Monday, where they will finally start their internship.

To say the least, Kasai was very excited, and that's putting it mildly.

The teenager was beaming, radiant with glee as she thinks about starting her hero career. By means, this opportunity was a push to becoming the hero she aspires to be, the hero she's always dreamed of. With this, she can finally step out from the dark and long shadow of her father. Where she can be free from his stealing and tarnishing gaze that once stripped her from all her achievements. He will no longer step on her hard work and destroy her self esteem.

No, because with this internship, she will rebuild and heal every piece of herself that he ruined with his scalding words. The words that branded her insecurities like harsh burns. Therefore, like pure daylight to dark shadows, Kasai will expel his bad influence out of her life.

Talking of her father, Kasai practically ignored his existence during the weekend. If they were in the same room, it was pure silence, just thick with uncomfortable tension, yet equally scalding with a raging aminosity. If her hatred with Shoto was unbearable, then her anger towards her father was unfathomable. Their silence was so aggressive that anyone else in the room would have thought that the two, and the whole room, would burst into hot fiery flames and burn everything down. Kasai was still enraged that her father didn't even offer her an internship. Like what the hell, his hero agency is powered with several sidekicks with fire quirks - like Burnin', but no, not even an explanation. Just total exclusion.

If he wants to play the game of rejection, then two can play that game, Kasai scoffs, disregarding his entire presence. Endeavor, who? Enji Todoroki? I don't know him.

So, as Monday came by, she followed with her usual morning routine, with the exception of packing clothes into her backpack instead of her school supplies. Today's the day where she finally gets to start her internship. Her steps were light and giddy, copying her emotions of excitement. Kasai's whole face was glowing with a smile, feeling genuine happiness.

Skipping out of her room, she prances into the kitchen to eat a breakfast that Fuyumi is currently making. The youngest Todoroki can smell the scents of grilled salmon, the steamed rice, the miso soup, the tamagoyaki, and the pickled vegetables. The sight of the traditional breakfast makes her mood lift even more. Taking a seat next to Shoto, she gives him a nod as a greeting since he's too busy eating.

"So, what's the occasion that's making you smile this morning," a voice asks her from across the kotatsu table.

Kasai smirks, looking up and meeting grey eyes. "What, I can't smile, Natsuo-nii? Is it a crime? Am I not allowed," she muses.

The white haired boy scoffs out a laugh. "When it comes to you, then yes seeing as you're usually frowning or glaring. So, again, what's the occasion?"

"Haha," the blue eyed teen snarks, "but it's the start of the hero internships today, and I'm excited."

Natsuo raises his eyebrows in question. "Are you working at dad's agency," he asks in disbelief.

Swallowing a piece of her grilled salmon - grudgingly, Kasai scoffs. "Ha, yeah right! Our father only gave Shoto an internship. But me, he'll rather give up his position as hero than give me a shot, you know how he is. Whatever, I don't care! I chose different agencies, ones that will actually help me," she proclaims, grinning as she raises her chopsticks in determination.

"So, who did you choose as your options," Shoto asks, picking up some cabbage from the pickled vegetable salad - Natsuo nods, also wanting to know.

Picking up some rice with her chopsticks, the platinum haired girl rolls her icy eyes. "I went with some combat ready heroes who will help me -"

"Like who," the older brother asks, pointing his chopsticks at her.

"Calm down, Natsuo. She doesn't have to tell us who," Fuyumi says, mediating the conversation.

Kasai smiles softly at her older sister before giving her brother's a snarkish smirk. "Nah, it's fine, I'll tell these idiots. I chose Mirko, Fatgum, and Hawks as my options, so hopefully one of them will accept me. I'll be happy with either one," she explains.

"Well whoever chooses you, both of you do your best. By means these are your hero careers, only you can set your limitations, no one else, no matter who they are," Natsuo tells both Shoto and Kasai, making the twins nod.

"Wow, who knew you were actually smart, big shocker," the youngest comments teasingly towards her white-haired brother.

Natsuo deadpans as Kasai and Fuyumi chuckles at his annoyed look. "Shut up and eat your food, you brat," he scoffs.

The four siblings finished breakfast with smiles and good spirits, enjoying their small moment together. Though, despite the happy mood that they give her, Kasai still felt a yearning pang for their missing sibling, if only he was there then everything could've been perfect.

ARRIVING AT UA, Kasai and Shoto greet their fellow students, and the girl immediately notices that they're equally pumped to start their internships. Splitting up to meet their friends, Kasai makes her way towards Mina. They greet each other with bright smiles, grabbing hands and jumping with excitement.

"Kasai! Are you pumped for your internship?!" The pink toned girl questions.

The pale girl nods, grinning. "Hell yeah I am! I can't wait to start!"

"Yes! Exactly! I can't wait to study under real pros," Mina exclaims, finally letting go of the girl to pump her fists in the air.

"I concur," Kasai smiles. "The wait is killing me, I just want to start already. However, tell me about your weekend, did you do anything interesting?"

"Hmm? Not really. I just found some new music to listen to - hey! They're something I think you'll like! They're upbeat and fast paced - songs perfect for dancing or to train with. I'll send you the list," Mina states with enthusiasm, showing the former the various songs.

Kasai gives her a appreciative smile before taking out her phone. "Nice, I'll definitely listen to it, especially if they're the songs you liked. We do have a similar music taste, after all," she comments as her phone dings with the message.

"Mhm! So, what did you do this weekend," the pink teen asks, wondering what her friend does while relaxing - if she relaxes.

The Todoroki sighs. "Well, it's not like I could do much with my newly damaged arms, hah. The pain is practically gone, but the soreness is still there, which I'm guessing will stay for a while."

"So, how will you do your internship if you're all sore," Mina asks, slightly concerned.

Kasai gives a chuckle. "Easy. I'll just endure and push through it. My chance of actually learning how to be a hero will not be stopped by a little pain, I won't let it," she grins, forming a determined fist in her right hand.

The pink girl laughs, impressed. "You sure are on a different level, Kasai."

"You know it," the Todoroki grins.

The two girls converse a bit more before Iida ushers them to sit in their seats, him being the only one standing as the bell rings. Kasai watches as the door to classroom slides open not a second later, Aizawa walking in, looking gruff as usual, with a stack of papers in his hand. Those papers immediately catch her attention.

The approved internships, she smiles.

"Alright, calm down. In my hands, I have everyone's approved internships and after a quick deliberation, you'll grab your gear and I'll escort you all to the train station. From there, you will all go to your chosen internship," Aizawa explains as he walks to the front of the class, facing them with his usual tired look.

Alas, after a while of going over what to do and what not to do, everyone gathered their things - Kasai grabbing her costume from her numbered slot along with her backpack that she packed with everyday essentials instead of school supplies. The trip to the train staion is a quick one, well at least to her it is, as Iida leads and Mr. Aizawa following from the rank with their organized two filed lines. Maybe it was the nerves, or the anticipation, or the excitement, but whatever it was, the white haired girl barely grasped her surroundings as her mind already settled on her destination.

She's finally doing it! She's on her path to becoming a hero! She's flying towards the sky and is shining bright like the sun! And most importantly, her father isn't around to dim out her light, her happiness, nor destroy her confidence - because in this moment she's on top of the mountain!

Reaching the train station, her mind goes on alert with the plethora of people coming and going. She never understood herself. How can she not like attention, but like praise? By means, she didn't mind the applause given to her a few days ago when she won her battles. Is it because she was never given attention as a child growing up that she finds it nerve wracking now? Tilting her head to the side at the thought, she nods, makes sense.

However, as she stands in the middle of the station with the rest of her class, she ignores the idle crowd of people as they gawk. Clearly recognizing them from the sports festival. Instead, she puts her focus on her teacher as he moves to the front of their gathering.

"You've all got your costumes, right? Wearing them in public is strictly prohibited, but don't drop them," Aizawa reminds as he looks over his students.

They all nod in response, but Mina being the enthusiastic girl she is, yells a "yeahhh!"

Kasai chuckles at her friend.

"And don't slur your 'yeah' Ashido. All of you be on your best behaivor," the dark clad teacher reprimands sternly. But at the last second, he sighs, softening his tone. "Now go."

"This is gonna be fun," Kasai hears Hagakure exclaim.

The white haired Todoroki silently agrees, smirking widely. Tightly grasping the handle of her costume case, she looks around at her peers, noting their equal excitement. Finding Mina, she nears her to say her farewells.

"Hey, Mina, good luck at your internship! You better tell me all about it," she states.

The pink teen nods, grinning. "You betcha! The same goes for you, Kasai, tell me everything! See you soon," she waves happily.

"See you!" And like that the two friends, go towards their trains.

Kasai then finds her brother since, coincidentally, they're getting on the same train towards the same direction. As she walks up to her twin, she makes eye contact with her ash blond rival as he walks to her, to his own train. Just as they pass each other, she speaks up.

"Good luck, sparkler! You better come back better so I can beat you," she smirks.

"Tch, I don't need luck, white-out! As for beating me, you can try all you want, but we both know that I'm already better," he grins smugly.

"Guess we'll find out next week," she challenges, locking her icy eyes with his crimson gaze.

"You're on," Bakugou responds and gently punches her bicep with his free hand.

Then, the two rivals go their separate ways, both adorning soft smiles on their faces.

ARRIVING AT HER destined location for her approved internship, Kasai checks her phone as she exits the train. Seeing the time displayed on the device, she notices that she still has an hour-and-a-half left before she needs to meet her hero teacher. So, with a smirk, she decides to do something so last minute.

Well, if I don't do it now, then I'm stuck with it, she muses.

So, eventually, after a long fifteen minute wait and a revelating thirty minutes of definite sureness, the youngest Todoroki walks with absolute confidence. With the sports festival, she came about a new heat setting of blazing azure flames. Though with those flames came a drastic temperature difference and unfortunately, her hair was the price as it charred in multiple places. The black patches in her white hair smelled like smoke, and sure the scent was one of comfort, but to constantly smell it was a different thing.

Which brings her here.

Alas, a new haircut.

It felt freeing. Like she was literally chopping off all the negative reminders of her father's scorning words. With the new mantra in her head, to shine like the sun, she felt it right to look and feel as confident as it made her. The former lower back strands now rest directly on her shoulders, with five partings across her forehead as bangs. The shorter cut felt more airy, easier to maintain. It was perfect, besides it's practical for combat, which made her smirk.

So, with the new cut, Kasai now reaches her destination and gives a confused frown at the location. Instead of a hero office, the white-haired teen now stands in front of a hotel, and an empty one by the looks of it. It has to be wrong, she thinks as she looks down at her given information for the approved internship. Unfortunately, she stands corrected and stands at the right place.

Not being able to do anything about it, Kasai shrugs and just walks in.

Though, she did assume right about it being empty. Unlike regular hotels that are lingering with a few tenants here and there, it's completely barren with the exception of a desk receptionist who's currently busy on the computer.

"Ah, looks like you found this place with no trouble. Honestly, I had no interest in teaching a student intern, but the hero commission made me. So, if I was going to choose, I'd pick the one with the most fighting spirit," Kasai turns her icy blue eyes to the sound of the voice.

There, in the lobby of the hotel, sits in all their glory, the number five pro hero - Mirko, the rabbit hero. The Todoroki silently gapes at the tall and strongly toned woman. She's everything a female hero should be - beautiful, strong, and confident. Hell, even her presence is powerful, that even Kasai whose usually confident seems to stagger at the sight.

Whoa, the shorter girl gapes with awe. Mirko is stunning

"So, Todoroki Kasai, how would you like it for me to teach ya," Mirko questions as she saunters over, smirking down at the teen. "Ready for the fight of your life," the woman grins.

At the question, the girl sobers before giving her own grin, excited. "Oh, I'm definitely ready. I'm fired up," she declares, eyes blazing with determination. Even her hair flickers with flames.

Rumi nods to the girl, silently impressed with her choice of intern. "I like you kid! Heh, I knew from the start that you were a kid with guts, especially after watching the sports festival. Anyone who can get back up to fight after being knocked down so many times is my type of person! After all, that is my style," the dark, honey-toned, woman professes with what seems her signature smirk.

Kasai nods, her cheeks flushing at the compliment, but nonetheless states, "well, what's the point of giving up or staying down when you can still fight? Seems like a waste of potential if you give up so easily. That's why I want to get better! Despite my efforts, I still only got to second place. It's a reason why I picked you, the flames is something I can do on my own, but the fighting, the strength, the stamina, the endurance, the agility and reflexes, that's what you can teach and advise me on," she says, expressing her honesty,

She truly believes that Mirko is the one to help her with all that. Sure, Mirko is a popular hero and in the top ratings, but that wasn't why Kasai chose her. Mirko is known for her fighting abilities, and that's what interested the girl. The Todoroki wanted to be like her. To be strong. To be fast. To be powerful. Sure, she could've put Hawks, or Fatgum as her first priority, but it just wouldn't be the same. And yes, they're fast and strong on their own, but they're not Mirko. She needed the guts and fighting fervor, the screaming determination to keep on standing that Mirko possessed. A strength that sets her heart ablaze!

After all, she's Solar Flare now, and she needs to burn just like the sun!

Gloriously, she will burn white!

The rabbit hero could see the raging fire burning in the girl's blue eyes, a wildfire of endless determination. Yup, she definitely made the right pick when she chose the Todoroki girl out of all the student interns. She saw it with her own amber eyes when she watched the sports festival. The way that she keep running, how she desperately burned at the chance to win, getting back up whenever she stumbled! That's a fire nobody could ever make, no they were born with that type of fire. A soul that constantly burns and never gives up! It reminded Rumi of her fighting days before the hero commission, the blood, the sweat, and the tears,

Kasai Todoroki is undoubtedly her hero protege!

Mirko smirks, "Heh, I see. Well, as I said, I hope you're ready for the fight of your life because you're gonna need it if you want to survive my training!" She declares as she looks down at the shorter girl, crossing her arms.

Turquoise eyes clash with a crimson ruby gaze, and Kasai clenches her fists in preparation-excitement.

I'm ready!

Whoop! Whoop! Well, there you go guys, Chapter 18! I know, I know, and soooooooo sorry and deeply apologize that this chapter took two years! Honestly, with work and life, I've been stuck in a rut. I'm honestly more surprised that my seasonal depression hasn't hit since summer is my off season, well, just means that winter is going to be a downer - sigh

Anyways, this chapter might not be much, but it's purpose is to tie the end of the sports festival and the beginning of her hero training!

Ooh, a Natsuo reveal! Him and Kasai for sure share a snarky and sarcastic relationship. They're the bitter sibling duo, haha! Also, if you noticed, Kasai also has a dislike towards seafood - at this point she's just too much like Touya haha!

Her hate for Endeavor is still going strong *muscle emoji* She's like if I don't exist for, then he doesn't exist for me, lol.

I am living for Mina and Kasai's friendship! Though, I do need to start writing her relationship with the other girls, along with the rest of the Bakusquad. (What kind of moments do you guys want to see with them?)

Haircut Kasai is here! Bye bye to her long hair, which was burned in the SF due to the uncontrolled extra heat of the blue flames. But hello to her new shoulder length hair, yay!

And Yay! The moment is here! She met with Mirko! So those of you who wanted her to do an interniship with our lovely Rabbit Hero, I hope you're excited! The next chapter will be about their training together! Say training montage *holds up mic*

But, yes, that's all for now! I'll try to update soon, and I mean soon, not in two years haha *looks away with shame and joins Tamaki in the corner*

I hope you enjoyed!
