INT. BISHOP'S OFFICE - NIGHT
The office's dim lighting paints the word gloom in so many ways. The BISHOP is sitting behind his huge desk, hands clasped together as if he wants to crack them all at the same time, reluctant about what he is going to say.
Father Jessup is standing a few paces away, like a convict about to be handed a death sentence.
BISHOP: I cannot give the permission for an exorcism.
FATHER JESSUP: But my sister has all the signs set forth by the Church, your Eminence. The demon has been tormenting her on and off for years.
BISHOP: Father Jessup, our investigators are not convinced it is genuine.
FATHER JESSUP: That's because the demon in her is treacherous. It left her when the investigators came. And it possessed her again as soon as they stepped out of the house.
BISHOP: I'm sorry. The panel's conclusion is that your sister needs special medical attention.
FATHER JESSUP: My sister is a doctor.
