Adam Yilmaz POV
"I mean, she's not my fiancée for God Sake!" I didn't know where she got her information about Celine and I. At first I thought she was kidding but by the look on her face I could tell she was serious. But how did she even know about it? I didn't say anything to anyone.
"So you and that Turkish bi...beauty aren't engaged?"
I chuckled knowing too well what she was going to say before beauty.
"No Lena, we aren't engaged. Why would you even think that?"
"well, you two have been dating for the past two years, maybe more and now she's wearing a diamond ring as big as her head" She exclaimed making me laugh heartedly.
I reached out to her and held her shoulders softly looking into her beautiful green orbs.
"I've never dated Celine, she's just a friend" I said truthfully.
"Never?" she asked looking up at me with hope in her eyes.
"Never, we're just friends" I repeated again.
"Friends?"
"Very close friends yes"
"Friends don't watch sunsets together while holding hands Adam, I can never forget that photo I saw a few years back"
I frowned raising an eyebrow at her "I remember blocking you on Instagram, how do you know about that photo?"
She blushed burying her face in my chest making me smirk. I already knew how, I just wanted to tease her a little. I missed this, me teasing her until she's blushing like a tomato.
"I may have made a fake account so I can stalk you on social medias"
I cracked a smile "I know 'gipsy girl', nice nickname by the way"
She pulled away and looked at me like a deer caught in the light "You knew!"
"I did, the minute you followed me actually. You are usually very smart but maybe you lost your touch? You added me everywhere from the same account in an instant. That seems very stalkerish to me"
We both laughed but she still looked embarrassed of me finding out about her fake account, so I needed to confess so she could take a breath.
"And Bruno Sid did a great job as well don't you think?" I winked at her while stroking her hair lightly.
Her eyes grew wide in excitement as she recognized the pseudonym.
"You stalked me too! But how come you're better at those things than I am?"
"Because I've always been smarter" I teased with a smirk.
She rolled her eyes at me and smacked me on the chest again "Now, beautiful stalker, care to explain why she has a ring and why you entered the ballroom as a couple? You even let the paparazzi snap pictures of you two! And don't change the subject you posted photos as if you two were a couple".
"As I said Lena, there is nothing between Celine and I. She is Kayra's best friend, my cousin who introduced us because we were all going to study architecture together. Apart from my uncle Karam and my cousins, I had no friends there so Celine and I hit it off pretty quick, and she's fun. Other than that..."
"Why did you stop talking Adam? What are you hiding? I just need to know who her fiancé is, if it's not you"
"It's me but..."
"You are confusing the hell out of me Adam Yilmaz!"
"Calm the fuck down Lena, and let me explain!"
Fine she muttered crossing her arms against her chest.
"Celine lost her dad when she was younger, and since her mother comes from a rich, strict and controlling family they had to move back to Turkey and live with her grandparents. They still believe in old ways, and hate the modern life our generation is living. They wouldn't let her come back to the US even though she's an adult and her dad was American. So I was her ticket out"
"By marrying her?" she was throwing daggers at me with her glare.
"Yes, and no. We just pretended to be engaged so they would allow her to leave Istanbul with me"
"And now what? How long will you pretend for?"
"Now that we're here I'm not pretending anymore. We go our separate ways. That was the deal, she'll wait a couple months and tell them we broke up"
"Are you sure about that? I don't want it to come and bite me in the ass later"
"A hundred percent sure. Now if this interrogation is over, can we eat our now cold breakfast? I'm starving"
"Sure! But first I need to see what you got me for my birthday" she wiggled her eyebrows and I grinned as I led her to the sofa.
Once we were seated, I grabbed the jewelry box and handed it to her. I watched her reaction as she opened it and her eyes lit up when she saw the red pendant.
"Is that..."
"A red fie opal" I finished for her and she smiled widely looking at it for a while.
"It's beautiful Adam... I love it"
"I custom made it just for you last year as a graduation present, but since I couldn't give it to you then..." I shook my head thinking of why I got this specific stone in the first place.
"I think this stone kinda represents you. Its name comes from the latin word 'opallios' which means change of color. In your case it's a change of emotions and moods throughout the years. Plus, when you are mad you burst out like a volcano and just look at the stone's colors, just like lava."
She looked at me biting down on her lower lip "I think no one ever described me like you just did. And I really love the fire opal. Did you know it used to be a symbol of purity, truth and hope to the Romans?"
"I do yes" I held her hand in mine "You are the most truthful, pure and hopeful person I know. This stone is made for you Helena"
"I stopped being hopeful for the last few years" She said looking down at our hands and I knew she was regretting everything. But I didn't want her to feel bad.
"Baby, don't worry about it, forget the past, focus on our future together. How about that?"
She nodded with a smile and kissed me lightly on the cheek "Now, I have to ask you something"
"Ask away, you've been doing it since I came back last night" I chuckled
"Were you here on my graduation day?"
I paused for a moment and thought there was no need to hide it anymore. "Yes, I was. And I came to see you, and to tell you how I feel about you."
"But you saw Max and left"
"Yes. That's what happened. Maybe I should have stayed but I thought you weren't ready for me, so I decided I'll come back when you are."
"Well I need to tell you something too" she blushed cuddling into my side as she drew circles on my arm with her thumb "I was there when you graduated. I saw you on the stand, and even though I didn't understand a word of your speech, I was so proud that you were a student of honor. I'm still very proud of you"
"Lena? Why didn't you... I mean how didn't I see you?"
"I had my hair in a bun, which I never do, I was wearing a huge hat and sunglasses. There's no way you would have recognized me"
"Why didn't you want me to see you?" I asked while stroking her cheek
"I didn't know how you'd react, I just didn't want to miss it. And I thought you were with Celine so yeah... that's what happened"
I lifted up her chin using my index finger and met her gaze "I wish I saw you that day, it would have changed everything. But we're together now, there's no need to dwell on the past" I captured her lips in mine and kissed away the sadness we were both feeling, I knew better days were coming.
I must have lifted her mood up because she was grinning widely know and bouncing like a happy kid. She made me clasp the necklace around her neck and quickly started eating her breakfast. She clearly was as hungry as I was since her stomach kept making growling sounds.
We laughed, talked, joked around and made up for the time we spent apart while eating our breakfast. It was already past lunch time, so we will skip lunch and just eat dinner where I was taking her.
If anyone saw us like that, so comfortable with each other, they wouldn't even think we hated one another in the past, we actually looked like best friends who were never apart. And I loved feeling that way.
Maybe leaving wasn't that bad after all. Never in my life I imagined being this laid back around Lena, she was being so nice and so talkative, no snarky comments, no snapping at me every chance she got. Being apart for a few years was good for us, making us realize just how much we cared for each other. I love this woman like I never loved anyone in my life before and nothing is ever going to change that.
"Should I take a woolen cardigan? Is it cold where we're going?"
"hum yes, take something warm just in case" I smiled looking around her room. We came to her flat so she could pack a bag for the weekend I had planned as a birthday surprise.
"Alright, I think I'm ready. I took comfy clothes and casual o=outfits just like you said"
"Great, don't forget you running shoes"
"I haven't" she pointed at them and closed her suit case.
"Did you text him?"
"Who?"
"Your boyfriend"
"Stop calling him that" she looked annoyed, good, maybe she'll break it off. She had to right? I mean I'm here now.
"Tell him you're not free tonight, or any night for that matter"
She giggled and took out her phone texting Max. He started calling her but she just sent it to voicemail. We hit the road to my parents' lake house. My mother, Leila Yilmaz, loved that place, and whenever I felt the need to feel close to them after they died I would go camp out there. It was still in good shape, and Mason took care of the place while I was gone. I had also asked him to stock the fridge and have someone to clean it before we got there.
Even though we were miles apart, Mason and I were always on good terms, we respected each other and really considered ourselves as siblings.
Lena kept changing the songs on the radio, she couldn't decide, and it made me look at the pendant on her neck, it was really the perfect gift for her, with a moody personality like hers.
"Are we there yet?"
"Almost baby. Turn the radio off if you're not liking anything"
"I'm just passing time. Where are we going anyway?"
"If I tell you, it won't be a surprise, plus we are just five minutes away. We'll make it in time for the sunset."
And we did. Just a few minutes after parking the car and leading her to the viewing spot, we saw the sun setting. It was amazingly beautiful. She was standing in front of me so I wrapped my arms around her waist and rested my chin on the top of her head aw we witnessed the beautiful sunset.
"It's amazing isn't it?"
Before she could say anything I heard footsteps and turned around briskly. These were private lands, no one was allowed here and we weren't supposed to have company. Lena turned around as well when she felt my body tense and gasped at the man standing in front of us.
"It is amazing indeed"
