Chapter 9.
After Lana and I found Chuck and Keegan, we all decided we should get on a couple more rides before the firework show. I almost argue, saying that we should continue getting on rides during the firework show because there will be less line due to people watching the show, but I saw how Lana's face lit up once Chuck mentioned the firework show and I couldn't ruin that for her.
We got on about 11 more rides before the firework show started, and I couldn't contain my laughter through out all of them. I absolutely adore roller coasters and I soon found out that so does Lana. Even though she is quite shaken at first, holding my hand tightly in the beginning, she shifts from afraid and nervous to ecstatic and I absolutely love seeing her face shift from one emotion to the other. She would laugh and throw her hands in the air and I did the same, yelling and laughing to let out everything. It feels amazing and I love the feel of the wind in my face, my hair out and the adrenaline coursing through my veins, and apparently so does Lana.
"Are you cold?" I am broken from my train of thought. I look up and see Lana making her way towards me with two coffee cups in hand.
"Huh?"
"Are you cold?"
"Oh," I say. "I'm fine."
"Here." She hands me one of the coffee cups and takes a seat next to me.
"What is it?"
"Hot chocolate."
I breath in the mouth watering aroma and close my eyes. Hot chocolate is my favorite.
"Thank you," I say. She smiles and leans further into the bench. I knew I was forgetting something when I got off of the car, but I just didn't know what.
"I forgot my jacket in the car," I say. I pull my legs up into my chest and take a sip of my hot chocolate.
"So you are cold," I turn my head to her and see her starting to get up.
"Oh no no no no no no no-" I grab her wrist. "Where are you going?"
"To get the blanket Chuck brought. And my flannel." I still hold onto her wrist.
"It's fine," I insist. She gives me a blunt look.
"No, you're not, you're cold. And it's not just for you, a flannel isn't going to keep me warm." I crack a smile.
I let go of her wrist and she gives me smile. I switch my position and go into a Indian style sitting position and see as Lana goes over to where Chuck and Keegan are sitting on the floor and scare Chuck before picking up the backpack from the floor. Chuck pushes her and Lana regains her balance while laughing and taking out the blanket from the pack. I smile to myself and decide to look away right then.
This thing, friendship, whatever is that is going on between Lana and I... I don't know what it really is. I don't know how I feel about it. What the bloody hell am I thinking? I love it. My favorite celebrity, singer, artist, person, whatever that I thought I would never meet, let alone become... Friends with? I am now spending a Saturday with at an amusement park with her photographer sister and sisters boyfriend who is an actor in one of my favorite new shows. She holds my hand and kissed my last night- and not a friendly kiss either, a ruff, passionate kiss that a couple does after not seeing each other for a long period of time. Talk about a bloody twist of events.
"Here you go." I jump. I turn to a cheery Lana who seems to be surprised that she gave me a fright.
"Oh sweetie I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!" I put put my hand over my heart and feel my heart thump a hundred beats per second, and once I regain my composure I smile.
"It's- it's fine," I laugh. "I was just deep in thought."
She smiles down at me and takes a seat next to me on the wooden bench. I scoot my bum a little to the right to give her more space but she scoots in closer, taking away that space and leaving barely any. I can't say I mind it.
"About what?" She asks. What do I say? I can't say what that I was thinking about the way she kissed me last night. How soft and plump her big, pink lips are-
"The firework show. It is taking an awful long time to start."
"An awful long time to start." she mimics my British accent.
"Making fun of my accent now are we?" she giggles.
"Well I just can't believe how long this show is taking to start, my god, I swear, one more minute and I will just die!" I say in my best american accent. Lana throws her head back in laughter and I laugh along with her.
"Not all Americans talk like that!" she defends.
"Oh really."
"Really." she says. I roll my eyes and take another sip of the hot chocolate that I forgot I was holding.
"I'm serious. I don't talk like that." I choke on my drink a bit to make what I am about to say a bit more believable.
"Ha! Now that is a funny Lana, you talk more like a valley girl than a valley girl herself."
"Do not." she insists. I drink some of my hot chocolate.
"Do not!" she says louder, shoving me.
"Okay." I say in a tone that sounds like I do not believe her.
"Shut up." she says. I laugh to myself and reach over for the blanket.
"You could pass the blanket over now." I say. She sighs and throws the blanket over her shoulder so that she can hold one end and I can hold the other. Right after, a man announces through the park speakers that the show is about to start, but is interrupted when a firework explodes in the air. I immediately stare in awe at how beautiful the firework looks and turn to Lana to see how she is taking this and can't help but smile at her.
She looks like a child who has never experienced a firework in her life. In complete awe and happiness at everything. The lights from the sky of the different colors reflect on her face and she looks absolutely beautiful right now. She turns to look down at me and I smile back at her, turning my attention back to the show afterwards. Just then, blue, red and white fireworks explode in the sky and I can't help but sing to her what I am about to sing.
"Red, white, blues in the sky.."
I hear her laugh and feel her hand land swiftly at the top of my thigh. I freeze then, looking down at her hand and then up at her. She is still looking at the fireworks, as if she didn't do anything. I decide then to not make anything of it, to just continue the rest of the show like everybody else is, but when I feel her hand start to itch higher up my thigh I can't. She starts to rub circular, soothing motions on my thigh and I feel myself shiver. I quickly put my hand over hers to make her stop this, I won't be able to take it of she continues to do so. I look up at her and see a small smile on her lips, as if she knows what she is doing. I ignore it and go back to looking at the show above.
I feel her hand turn then and hold onto mine, and her head comes down slowly onto my shoulder. She pulls the blanket closer to her around her body and I do the same, placing the hot chocolate cup onto the empty part of the bench. She nuzzles closer into my shoulder and I lay my head on top of hers, in the same position we where in last night on the ride to my house. I hear her sigh.
"I'm your National Anthem." she sings.
I smile to myself.
