Chapter 6
Cara's P.O.V
I wake up to my alarm from my old fashioned clock blaring through my room. Groaning, I reach over and smack the clock, making the annoying sound go away. I yawn and sit up, looking blankly at the wall. I hardly got any sleep last night. I was up thinking about everything that had happened earlier that day. And god did a lot happen.
I had went to a Lana Del Rey concert thinking I would do just that. Thinking, I'm finally gunnu see her! Maybe she'll spit on me if I'm lucky! But no, she stared at me, winked at me, took a picture with me, signed a ticket for my best friend, and I got to give her kiss on her cheek. The concert had been amazing and I stayed to take a couple of pictures of the stage, and then she invited me to go backstage. I almost pissed my pants I swear to god.
To top that, I got to go to dinner with her and Chuck. We bonded, at least I hope we did, and she held my hand on the ride back to my house. I didn't really know what it meant at the time. I was just dumb struck by it. But when she walked me to the front door and kissed me... I was more confused than ever. What did that mean for us? Are we dating? No. No, that would be unrealistic. Are we friends? Maybe. I mean, I have kissed some of my girl friends before, just a girly peck on the lips or a lingering kiss. There is nothing wrong with it. It's more of a friendship kiss than anything else. But the one that Lana and I had... it was different. And I am not sure how to explain the way it made me feel besides confusing me.
I decide to get the subject out of my head and throw the bed sheets off of myself to walk to the restroom. I rustle my hair with my right hand and yawn. Why do I get up this early again?
I brush my teeth and use the restroom before I go back into my bedroom to decide what to wear. I open the second drawer and look threw my options. It does feel warm, so I go with my black shorts, black sports bra, and a white Nirvana tank top for my run. Oh! My socks! I open the first drawer and put on my batman socks. I don't sleep with socks on, it feels bizarre. And if I do sleep with socks on, they are never on my feet in the morning when I wake up so what's the point?
I start walking down the hallway to the stairs and stop by the mirror to look at myself. I look like I need more sleep, my dirty blonde hair is a mess, split down the middle, with what looks like a... a snickers rapper. I snickers rapper is in my hair. I untangle it out of my hair and throw it on the mahogany table next to the stairs on my way down.
"Mia!" I yell out. She is no where in sight, so I call out in a demon voice "Mia." she appears from the living room entry. She follows me into the kitchen, already knowing what is going to happen. I grab her bowl from the floor and put two scoops of her food into it. I look down and she is already looking to make eye contact with me. I return her eye contact for a good 15 seconds and then place her bowl down, petting her head as she dips it down to eat her breakfast. Just one of the many things I have learned from Cesar Millan.
Usually I would take Mia with me on my morning run, but today has to be shorter than usual so I will just text Leah if she could take her on a long walk later on while I'm away at the theme park with Lana. I walk over to the cabinet to look for the small box of Nerds I saved since Wednesday. I find the small box and shake it, making 3 nerds fall into my hand. I throw them into my mouth and start to think. Should I? I haven't eaten breakfast... I decide to stop thinking and just hold the box over my open mouth to let the remaining of the Nerds fall into it. I chew and start walking over to the small shoe closet next to the front door, throwing the empty Nerd box into the trash during the process.
Where are they... is that... ? Nope. I throw my bunny slipper at the wall and huff in annoyance. Where the hell can they be?
Oh! I know! I get off of my knees and run over to the living room. I threw them at Leah when she wouldn't stop teasing me about Stefan when she found out I was going out with him. Casually, of course. We haven't kissed or anything, we haven't made anything official. I sort of wish we would, but then again after that sorta make out session with Lana yesterday, that could have been considered as cheating.
I quickly double knot my shoe laces and start stretching. I don't want to pull a muscle or anything just because I am in a hurry. I finish my stretching and bend over to gather my hair. I tie it with an elastic and head for the door.
I run through my usual route, saying a hello here and there to everyone I know. I am just about done with 1 mile when I decide to head to Nina's already. I usually head to her house when I am almost done with 2 miles, but I am on a tight schedule today. I don't know when Lana plans on passing by for me, and me being the bonehead that I am I forgot to give her my phone number, so I have to make this run quick.
I turn the corner on Wilsure street and sprint to Nina's front door.
"Cara, what are you doing here so early?" Mrs. Adams asks tiredly.
"On a tight schedule Mum, is Nina awake yet?" I ask.
"Yes, she is upstairs watching TV. Why are you on such a tight schedule?" she asks.
I kiss her on the cheek and start heading up the stairs.
"Going somewhere with Lana!" I yell once I reach the top. I walk down to the end of the hall and open the last white door to the right.
"Sup bitch!" I run over to Nina's bed and jump on top of her, catching her off guard.
"You bitch you made me spill my chocolate milk!" she complains. I laugh and scoot over to the other side of her bed, resting my legs on top of her thighs.
"You shouldn't be having food or beverages up here anyways." I tease her.
"Oh shut up," she wipes her arm to take off some of the milk I caused her to spill on herself, "Why are you here so early?"
"Just as questional as your mother. Why can't I just be here early because I couldn't wait to see you?" I ask. She rolls her eyes at me.
"Seriously why are you here so early? Did your house burn down or something?" I laugh and nod.
"No! I have plans today that don't involve you, believe it or not." she looks at me suspiciously.
"Bullshit." she says.
"No, seriously. But I'm not sure you'll believe who those plans are with." I say.
"Who." she challenges.
"Lana." I avoid eye contact.
"Wow Cara. This is a new level of lying. I thought you were serious for a second."
"I am serious! After the concert, I had stayed back a while. To take pictures of the stage, because you know, that's normal." she looks unamused.
"Anyways, this big buff security called Rodger, well I don't want to just say that because that sort of makes him sound mean and like a meathead. He was nice. So more like a gentle giant. Anyways, he was going to escort me out but I had asked if I could take one more picture of the stage. He said yes, but when my flash went off, I had seen something jump in front so I was like 'hey!' but it turns out it was Lana! So, Rodger was all like 'Oh sorry Miss Del Rey I was just about to escort this young lady out'. "I try to mimic Rodger's deep voice.
"So just as Rodger was about to escort me out, Lana asked if he could take me backstage! And both Rodger and I were like 'Whuuuuut' because, why would Lana want me backstage right? But Lana had left backstage again before Rodger could ask her to repeat what she had said, so he just took me backstage.
Once we where backstage I ran into an old friend- never mind that it isn't important. What is important is that Chuck and I sorta've bonded over photography and then Lana and I started talking, but once they had to leave already I was all bummed because I only go to talk to them for under 5 minutes. But! They invited me to go have dinner with them!" I rant.
"Wait, you're telling me that you got to go backstage at Lana's request, meet Lana and Chuck, bonded, talked, and got invited to dinner?" Nina asks.
"Yes, now moving on." I wave her off. "Once Lana finished with her fans outside and everything, we headed to Factions. We all talked and laughed and then Janise was our waitress, you know Janise right?" I ask.
"Tall skinny pretty Janise or pretty all up in your face but still cool Janise?" she asks.
"Tall skinny pretty Janise."
"Okay go on,"
"Well she mentioned my birthday and the message she sent me wishing me a happy birthday, and so they found out it was my birthday," I take a breath. God I talk fast, I think to myself.
"And so they, and the staff, sang me happy birthday and we got a double chocolate fudge cake, do you remember that cake? From Grad dinner?"
She nods.
"Okay but then George, Lana's driver, showed up to pick us up so we had to finish the cake fast. And on the car ride home, Lana held my hand." I say.
"What?" Nina asks, shocked.
"I know. And she rested her head on my shoulder and we fell asleep. And when we got to my house, she woke me up and walked me to the front of the house. We had made plans to go to Artenia Fun Park earlier so when we got to the door I was going to ask her when she was going to pick me up, but then, she kissed me."
"What!?!" Nina shouts, flabbergasted.
"Imagine how I felt!" I exclaim.
"Did you kiss her back?" she asks.
"Well of course I did. Once I realized what was going on." I say.
"Was it a peck or like..."
"More like a make out session." she sits back down. As if to process everything I have just told her.
"Are you fucking with me right now?" she asks.
"No no, I swear I am not making this up." I say as truthfully as I possibly can.
"Well I don't know Car, and your practically going on a date today." she tells me.
"I doubt it, Chuck is probably coming with us. And that could have just been a friendly kiss." I say.
"Did it feel like a friendly kiss?"
"I-" shit. "I don't know," I confess.
"Well there you have it," she says, "I just can't believe what you told me right now actually happened!"
"Trust me, me either. I feel like I'm getting punked."
"And I can't even go with you," she says. I pout and say,
"I know. Can I see your cast?" she nods and takes the bed sheets off of her body, giving me a good view of her red colored cast.
"Your little piggys are sticking out!" I say, pointing at her toes.
"Yeah," she laughs.
"Hold on," I get up off the bed and walk over to her desk. I pull the small drawers open until I find a black sharpie. I walk back over to the bed but instead of going to Nina, I go to the foot of the bed. I kneel down and start drawing whatever pig faces I can come up with on her toes.
"There! Damn, I should work for Pixar look at these babies!" I tell her, pointing at her toes.
"Okay. Well, it looks like I am the first person to sign your cast." I say, starting to write my name on the blank red robot thing.
"Yeah well that's what being under house arrest gets you. I'm going back to my dorm tomorrow though." she says.
"How long before you can play again?"
"Couple months." well that sucks.
I finish coloring in my name in big bold letters and add a tiny heart at end, then I start to write a poem.
"Bitch yo ass is so fine?" she laughs from what I am writing.
"Hey! Read it when I finish!" I defend. She laughs nodding her head in disapproval and leans back against the headboard.
"I got you a signed ticket." I tell her.
"Gee thanks. You get to be friends with Lana Del Rey and I get a signed ticket." she says sarcastically.
"You wanted a signed ticket not a friendship." I remind her. She laughs just as I finish up my poem.
"Alright well, I'll see you later." I say getting up.
She does a pouty face as I hand her the sharpie to return it. She grabs my hands as I pull away and I pretend to be dead.
"Cara. Cara." she says in her best Rose voice.
I pull away and walk backwards to her door.
"Come back! Come back!" I close the door behind me.
"You bitch!" I hear her yell.
"Love you too!" I shout back. I go down the stairs and see a more awake, out of pajamas, Mrs. Adams.
"Bye mom. I'll see you later." I say kissing her on the cheek.
"Leaving already?" she asks as I walk away.
"Tight schedule remember? Tell Dad I said hi!"
I close the door and start jogging out of Nina's driveway. One more mile, I tell myself.
Lana's P.O.V
"Did you put sunscreen on already?" I hear Chuck ask from the bathroom.
"Yes!" I haven't. I speed walk over to the motel table by the window and start rubbing sunscreen all over.
"Lana you better have sunscreen on! You know how you get when you don't!" she shouts. I ignore her and continue rubbing sunscreen onto my arms. My make-up has sunscreen in it so I skip my face and start rubbing my legs.
"Are you ready?" Chuck appears from the bathroom door and I nod.
"Rub some on my back yeah?" I ask. She walks over and I pull my hair over my shoulder.
"Is Keegan coming?" I ask her.
"Yeah, he said he'd meet us at the park. He'll get the tickets."
"Remind me to pay him back later." I say.
"You know he won't take it." she reminds me.
"Yeah well I'll shove the money up his ass if I have too." she shoves me and I laugh. I walk over to the mirror and apply a bit more of Chapstick.
"Well does Cara know we're going already?" she asks. I walk over to my luggage on the floor and kneel down.
"No... I'm sorta winging it." I pull on my light blue denim shorts and start to go through my luggage again.
"Where's my AC DC t-shirt?" I ask.
"I don't know, it should be there."
"Huh." I get up and walk over to the pile of clothes on top of the bed. Oh, here it is. I put it on and walk over to the closet. I grab my red chucks and slip them on, I didn't untie them the last time I had them on and I don't feel like untying them now, slipping them on and then having to tie them again.
"Alright lets go," I wait for Chuck to grab the motel key and her ridiculous backpack.
"Are we going camping or to an amusement park?" I tease her. She hangs her camera over her neck and rolls her eyes.
"You never know Lizzy, you have to be prepared." she walks past me and I close the door. She's a good 8 feet ahead of me so I wait until we are by the car to speak again.
"Prepared for what? The apocalypse? Seriously Chucky, we aren't going to need the stuff you have in there. We only need cash." she stops and waits by the passenger door.
"Did you forget anything?" she asks, obviously trying to get away from the backpack subject.
"Nope." I say confidently.
She throws something over the car at me, startling me but I am still able to catch it. I look down and see my red, blue, green flannel.
"You forgot it." she says like a know it all. I glare at her, she smirks.
"Thanks." I mumble. Her smile grows bigger and I sarcastically laugh. She's getting a kick out of this, so I decide I am going to get back at her. I unlock the car by using the key instead of the button and open the drivers door, getting in smoothly and closing the door once I am.
"Hey!" she yells, tapping the car window. I start the engine and start pulling out of the parking space.
"Lizzy this isn't funny!" she yells even louder. I roll the window down and stick my head out.
"What? I can't hear you!" I yell back and begin driving out of the parking lot.
"Lizzy!" I push the break and roll down the passenger window to a panting Chuck.
"Oh I'm sorry, did I forget something?" she scowls at me and I smile.
"Very funny, now open the door." I unlock the door and push the gas again when she is about to open it. I smile at her while she gives me an exasperated annoyed face. She tries to be quick and open the door again but I push the gas before she has a chance to touch the handle.
"Lana!" I laugh and finally let the poor kid open the door, but push the gas again when she has one foot in the car.
"Ugggh!!" she complains.
"Alright alright get in," I say. She looks at me cautiously while opening the door and getting into the car as fast as she possibly can. I let her start putting on her seatbelt before quickly pushing the gas again.
"God dam it Lizzy!" I laugh and cup her face, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Oh cheer up Chuck." she fixes the backpack at her feet and crosses her arms. I giggle at her stubbornness and start driving onto the road.
"Put your backpack in the back," I tell her.
"It's fine right here." she says. I huff and reach over to turn on the radio.
"Suit yourself." she should really put it in the back. That space bag of hers doesn't leave her legs much room.
"What do you have in there anyways?" I look over at her. She is playing with her fingernails, mumbling along to the song playing through the car speakers.
"Things we might need. Like snacks, sandwiches, water, blanket, jacket-"
"Oh my god, you do think we're going camping." she glares at me and continues.
"Phone charger, money, your jacket because you know you'll get cold later on." she accuses. I roll my eyes and make a left.
"And I got your juice boxes and other things so don't roll your eyes!" she tells me. My juice's hu?
"Alright I'll give you credit for the juice boxes but that's it. We don't need the rest,"
"Sure." she changes the station and I make another left. This street looks familiar.
"Lan, we've been on this street." Chuck confirms for me. "Do you remember where Cara lives?"
"Of course I do!"
I think I remember where Cara lives... it was pretty dark out when we took her home after all. I make a right instead of left this time and continue to wing it while I try to remember where she lives. C'mon. Why did I have to fall asleep for most of the ride?
"Remind me why you gave the day off to George, making us lost?" Chuck speaks for the first time in 5 minutes.
"First of all, we aren't lost. And second of all, he needed a day off. He drives for hours and hardly gets time to relax or anything."
"Yeah well you should have borrowed the GPS." she tells me.
"We aren't lost!"
"Yeah right, this is the road trip all over again!" she tells me.
"Hey, you have to admit, that was pretty fun." I look over at her and see that she is smirking. I poke at her tummy where I know she is ticklish and see her trying to hold in her laughter.
"Admit it!" I continue tickling her, making a quick glance at the road to make sure we don't crash.
"Fine! Fine, it was fun," she admits. I stop ticking her and put both hands onto the wheel.
"It's not fair when you tickle," she complains.
"Shut up," I tease. I look up at the street signs, looking for something familiar. I had woken up early enough to see on what street she lived on, so I should be able to remember it. 61st and Ashley, that looks pretty right.
"I think it's right here." I turn right and look for the old fashioned white wooden house. At least I think it was white.
"It's that one!" I point at a familiar looking house.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Maybe. I don't know. Let's go check," I park in front of the house and cut the engine. I look in the mirror one more time. Do I look okay? My brown hair is in a half up half down style, with my bangs hanging out and I have little make-up on. Do I smell? No, I showered last night. Why am I so nervous? She's just another one.
"You alright?" Chuck breaks me from my thoughts. I look over to her and see that she is already out of the car.
"What? Yeah, I am." she looks at me strangely and slams the door. I sigh and give one last glance at myself in the mirror.
Cara's POV
Once I get home, I shower as fast as I can and get dressed. As I guessed, it is warm out today, so, I go with an above knee length nude colored skirt, an old Guns N' Roses t-shirt, and a beanie. I went with a beanie because after blow drying my hair I didn't feel like doing anything besides combing it, plus, I love beanies. And jackets. Which is why I decided to take one incase it gets a little colder later on. I put on my grey socks with the bacon strip designs on them and look in the mirror. I should tuck in my shirt. It would look much better.
Of course, I was right and my outfit looks better with the shirt tucked in. I look down and admire the tiny bacon strips on my socks. These socks really are amazing. After about a minute, I stop admiring my socks and start heading downstairs because I know if I don't, I will start to get hungry.
I stop at the bottom of the stairs, confused and squinting. What did I come down here for? Think Cara, think. I don't want to go back upstairs only to realize then what it was that I was going to do down here. Boots! I mentally high five myself and open the shoe closet. I know I should keep my shoes upstairs but once I get home I can't help but kick them off and throw them in here. I spot my leather burgundy Dr. Martins at the corner of the closet and step on top of the messy mountain of shoes to get to them, hurtfully stepping on a heel.
"Shit!" I curse. I sit on top of the shoes and start putting on my Dr. M's when there is a knock on the door.
"Coming!" I yell. The knocking stops. I pull on my left shoe a little too hard and fall back, landing on another heel. Christ, I need to be more organized. I walk out of the small closet and see that Mia is already there, staring excitedly at the door.
"Tsst." I raise my hand at her and wait until she is relaxed enough to open the door. I smile to myself when she does, this is the most serious and powerful I have ever felt. It's ridiculous but true. I turn and open the door, only to find Lana and Chuck mellowly waiting.
"Oh, hey guys." I greet as calmly as possible.
"Hey."
"Hi," They look back at me and I only realize why a few second later.
"Oh! I'm sorry, come in come in! But do me a favor, do not make eye contact with my dog, touch or talk. Nothing personal it's just that that's how she's suppose to meet people." I inform them.
"Oh, sure." Lana agrees confused.
"Okay." Chuck says. Equally as confused.
I move out of the way and they enter the house, doing as I asked when they see Mia.
"It's that a Pit-Bull?" Lana asks.
"Yeah, an American Pit. Aren't scared of them are you?" I ask.
"No, not at all." she says.
"Good, I hate it when people think a Pit-Bull is a monster and dangerous just because it's a Pit-Bull."
"Me too." Lana agrees. I smile and look over at Chuck who is giving Lana a look.
"Well just let me go get some money, I'll be right back." I say backing up towards the staircase. "Make yourself's at home."
I look around my room for my wallet and finally spot it on the floor between the nightstand and bed. It is always there, I have to get better aim if I am going to continue just throwing it on there. I count how much I have and decide that it's enough for a day at an amusement park. A day at an amusement park, with Lana Del Rey and Chuck Grant. Wow, I never thought I'd say that.
It's when I'm walking down the stairs that I start to panic. It's all really sinking in now, a day with my favorite celebrity. A person I love but barely knows me, a person I never thought I would meet, let alone hang out with. Two days in a row. Some people would kill to be in my shoes, which means I have to be extremely great full. And I am I am, but I have no idea how I can stay as calm as I can around Lana. On the outside at least. This is so surreal that I can't fully proses it.
"Ready." I say once I reach the bottom. A while later, Chuck and Lana appear from the living room entry and I feel the butterflies.
"Let's go." Lana says. I lock up and follow Lana and Chuck to the car. Be calm, be calm. Just another person, just another person. Yes. I am going to hang out with just another person. I will have fun and be normal, ride rides, eat candy, and win stuffed animals. This is going to be a great day and it will go amazing. I open the back door of the car and take the window seat. I buckle up and roll down the window once Lana starts driving, taking a breath of fresh air.
I'm going to have a heart attack.
