Chapter 58
Lana's POV
"Call me Lizzy." I manage to repeat, louder and clear than the first time. I begin to grow a bit nervous when she says nothing, but that weary nervousness starts to disappear as I see that small smile that I love so form on her pink lips.
"I can dig it." she responds, and I smile. Her smile grows wider just as mine does and she looks away then, facing forward and thinking to herself.
"Lizzy." she repeats, as if testing how it rolls off her tongue. "Lizzy. Does this mean I can call you Elizabeth now?" she questions, and I let out an amused huff.
"I guess." she grows excited then.
"This means I can refer to you as Elizabitch when you piss me off now." she says, and then gasps. "And, hold on." she turns to me. "Elizacunt!"
I laugh and shove her lightly as she chuckles.
"Very funny." I say. She smiles and settles in her seat more to engage into a conversation with me as the plane begins to take off, talking animatedly as she always does. I talk too, sure, but I much rather hear her voice. She manages to make the simplest conversation topics interesting, and just the way she talks, fast and british accent clear, I love. She's rather charismatic, I have come to learn. No one she has met dislikes her-- well, no one in their right mind anyway. There is just something about her.. something special. She's special. And call me selfish, but I don't want to share her. I want her all to myself, but that would be too selfish. You can never belong to someone. I would know.
As we itch closer and closer to Los Angeles, I find myself dreading the thought of going back. Seeing certain people, even taking care of some things with 'work'. I know once we land Cara and I's time is limited, with her having more jobs and landing that gig in that movie and me, having some gigs to sing at and interviews to do and the premiere of Ride, not to mention the tour coming up. It is stressful to think about, and it saddens me to be away from her.
Having this "little holiday/getaway", as Cara would call it, has made my adoration for her grow, and I would hope, hers for me. I am feeling all kinds of emotions right now. I don't even know how to express how I am truly feeling.
"Banana." I feel a light shove. "Banana."
I look up towards Cara, realizing she has been trying to catch my attention.
"What?"
"We're about to land. You okay?" she asks. She begins putting on her seat belt. "Fantasying about me again aren't you?"
I laugh lightly.
"Always."
"Yeah, well." she sighs. "I'm irresistible. I don't blame you." she places her hands behind her head and leans back. I roll my eyes playfully.
When the plane lands, Cara and I manage to get our carry-ons fast enough to not have to wait for anyone else to exit, and the entire time, I keep on telling myself it is not too late to go back to Jersey. New York even. I didn't take her there during our week vacation, and I regret it terribly. There we can walk around without me fearing we will run into someone, same as Jersey. We can go right now, right now. I can get us tickets in no time.
"Babe I have to use the loo, mind getting the luggage yourself?" she asks. I look up at her and see she has to pee. I have made her pee herself twice, I would know when she needs to.
"Ye- yeah. You know where right?"
"Nope!" she says beginning to walk away anxiously. "See you!"
I smile, but once I she turns away I let it fall. God.
I make my way to where the luggage will be arriving and wait along with the other people gathered there. I realize then I should probably call Chuck, but hesitate as I begin thinking of just flying to New York. Ugh. Who am I kidding? I pull out my phone and go to my contacts, instantly finding her and pressing the call button. She answers on the 5th ring.
"Hello?" her voice blares through the speaker.
"Hey Chuckie. You on your way?" please say no.
"Yeah I am." her voice sounds distant. She must have her phone on speaker. "Hey are you going to want me to take you to the Chateau or the apartment?"
"Apartment." I say instantly, J coming to mind.
"Alright then." she says, and I am just about to say my goodbye when the line stays silent for a few seconds when she speaks again.
"Hey Lizzy?" she asks.
"Yeah?"
"I.. I ran into- um, Jade, the other day an--"
"--No Chuck." I cut in instantly.
"Liz just hear me out she sai--"
"I don't want to know." I say firmly.
"But Lizz--" I see the luggage arrive just then.
"I have to get the luggage. Call me when you're here." I don't wait for her response before I end the call this time. I shove my phone into my bag and walk over to get our luggage, the small frustration I was feeling earlier becoming bigger along with the anxiousness. I run a hand through my hair as I sit down on one of the plastic seats and see Cara come into my view, watching her as she makes her way over to me just as I was about to take out my phone to text her.
"Chuck here already?" she asks once she reaches me, and I try to change my mood.
"Oh, no." I tell her. "She'll be here in a little bit though. Enjoy your pee?"
She takes the seat next to me.
"Yeah it was really good." she nods.
"That's nice." I look down, beginning to play with my phone.
"Something wrong Banana?" I hear Cara ask, breaking the short silence.
"What? No, no." I smile lightly. "I'm fine."
"Oh." she says. "Wait, no Chateau?"
"Na." I feel my phone beginning to vibrate.
"Why?" I hold up my phone.
"Hold on." I answer and bring the phone to my ear. "Hello?"
Chuck let's me know she is here already, and where. I tell her okay and click, turning to Cara to let her know my sister has arrived. We make our way to where Chuck said she was waiting and am pleasantly surprised when I see there is no sign of the paparazzi. Thank god.
We see Chuck once we get close to where she said she was and I continue to walk as Cara runs the rest of the way, greeting my little sister in a bear hug once she reaches her. I see them talk for a little as I continue to walk, catching up and what not. When I reach them I see my sister grow a little stiff.
"Hey Chuckie." I greet, hugging her. "Miss me?"
"Like I couldn't." she replies. I pull away and look at the two, sharing a smile.
"Well, let's get going yeah?"
"Yeah yeah." Chuck replies. "Let's just get this stuff in the car."
**
When we arrive at the apartment, we all make our way inside with something in hand. Me with the carry-ons of course and Chuck and Cara each holding a suitcase. I set the bags down on the couch and take a seat beside them, kicking off my flats in the process so I can relax for just a little.
"So what do you guys want to eat?" Chuck asks openly. We discussed this a little in the car but changed the subject when no one could decide.
"I don't know." Cara says. She turns to me. "Lizzy?"
Shit. I see Chucks eyes turn slightly wide. The entire car ride here Cara had managed not to call me Lizzy, not purposely, obviously, and I knew Chuck would eventually find out, but I was just hoping she wouldn't. I look back at Cara to regain my composure then, trying to stay cool.
"I don't know." I say. "Why don't we just walk around and see what we find?" why did I just say that? I don't want to walk.
"Oh, okay. Sure. You cool with that Chuck?" Cara asks.
"Um, yeah yeah. Whatever's fine."
"Alright then. Should we head out?" Cara takes a step forward.
"Babe wait um.. can you go get me my light green cardigan? I think I left it on my bed."
"Yeah course." Cara says. She turns around and begins walking, reaching the hallway and then my room. Once she turns and enters it, that is when Chuck begins.
"Really Lizzy? Lizzy!?" she exclaims in a hush tone, walking closer to me on the couch. I get up then, as if it will allow me to explain myself better.
"Look.. I just said it on the plane I-- I.."
"Wasn't thinking?" she finishes.
"Yes. Wait, no. I was. I meant it.. I did. I just--" I am trying my best to explain myself but Chuck is making that a tad bit hard for me.
"You do realize only in your serious relationships since this Lana Del Rey.. thing, people have called you Lizzy."
"By relationships you mean Barrie, right?" she stops herself from saying anything else on that subject. She knows better than to.
"I can't find it!" We hear Cara shout from my room, and we both turn our heads.
"Check the closet!" I shout back. I turn back to Chuck then.
"Okay!" she drags on. We both turn towards each other again.
"Lizzy, no, not just that. Friendships too. You're dragging this way too much now. It's going to b--"
"I couldn't find it at first, but it was under your blanket." Cara interrupts then from the middle of the hallway, and we both turn to see her walking towards us, the light green cardigan in hand.
"Oh, good." I smile. She reaches me and I take the thing from her. "Thank you."
"Sure." she smiles. She claps her hands together then and rubs them. "Shall we? I'm starving."
"Yeah, just let me put my flats back on."
"Okay."
I walk back over where I kicked off my flats and look up at Chuck as I finish slipping them back on, giving her a look she will understand when I see Cara is distracted by her phone.
"Alright!" I say standing up straight. "Let's go."
I grab my purse off of the couch and catch up with Cara and Chuck who have already starting walking towards the front of the house. Closing the door after locking it, I turn to Chuck and Cara. God.
