Chapter 56

When we arrive at the motel, I pay the driver as Lana moves to answer her ringing phone. I thank the driver before he drives off and begin walking towards Lana who is now talking on a hush tone, hunched by our motel room door.

"Lana?" I call out. She turns around and picks up her head in one swift motion, also holding her phone to her chest so that no sound is heard on the other end of the line.

"You have the key no?" she reaches into her bag and takes it out for me.

"Are you coming inside?" I ask.

"No just go in, i'll take a shower after you."

"Oh." I say. "Okay." I take her bag from her and move to open the door. I leave my backpack and her bag on the bed as I pass and toss the room key on the bedside table.

I start the water for the shower and begin removing my clothes, feeling weird when I enter the shower. This is the first time I take a shower alone since getting here in Jersey. It feels bizarre. I lay under the water for a while to get accustomed to the water and begin shampooing. When I finish that I condition and wash my body, staying a short while under the water to relax a bit. Going to the beach with Lana always tires me out with all the things we do. You'd think we were children with everything we do if it weren't for the kissing and occasional ass grabbing. Finally shutting the water off, I dry my self somewhat with a towel before walking into the main part of the motel.

When I see Lana is still not inside I begin to change into some underwear and a black brassiere before getting into the clothes I was wearing earlier. She is taking rather long now that I think of it. I was in the shower at least a good 10 minutes. Wanting to distract myself, I turn on the telly and begin flipping through some channels before settling on a re-run of the crocodile hunter. I am about 5 minutes into it when she walks back into the room.

"Hey." I greet.

"Hey." she replies, the hey sounding more like a sigh than a greeting. I sit up then, sensing something is wrong.

"Everything okay sunshine?" she brushes this off.

"Yeah, fine." I get up off the bed, not really believing her. "I'll be quick in the shower."

"You don't seem fine." I choose to ignore the shower comment.

"Car I'm fine." she laughs lightly. "Just a little tired from the beach."

"If you feel tired we can stay in if you want." I suggest. I don't want her to be getting more tired than she already is, I know how much her feet can ache after walking so much in sandals.

"No it's fine," she brushes off again. "Its our last day here."

"Are you sure?" I ask. "If you're tired we can stay, order pizza and I can give you another foot massage-"

"Babe its fine." she laughs lightly. She walks closer to me and places a lingering kiss on my lips. "I'll still take that foot massage later though." she winks.

"Okay." I give in.

"Alright." another kiss. "I'll be out in a few."

"Okay." I reply. She makes her way toward the bathroom and I watch her until she reaches the doorway. I go back to the bed and plop down, turning the volume up. The episode finishes after a few minutes and I begin channel surfing when I hear Lana call out from the shower.

"Yeah?" I shout back.

"Can you bring me a towel? I forgot mine!"

Of course. I should have known. I get up off the bed lazily and grab a clean towel from on top of my luggage before walking into the bathroom. I get ahold of the towel on either side and spread it wide the closer I get to the shower.

"Alright, here." she opens the glass door and steps into the towel, shivering a bit from the cold air that hits her. I wrap it around her and shake it hard on purpose before placing a kiss on her cheek.

"Do you always have to forget your towel?" I ask her.

"Yes." I remove my arms from around her body and give her a blank stare before beginning to make my way toward the bed to get her clothes that she left there, knowing she'll ask me for them.

"Can you bring me my clot-"

"I know, I know." I say.

"Thank you." she says in a sweet voice.

"Yeah yeah." I get the clothes on the bed and begin making my way toward her again. When I reach her she is bent over drying her hair with the towel, allowing me to smack her bum.

"Ow." she fakes. I smile and hand her her clothes.

When she finishes dressing and applying minimal make-up-- despite my protesting, we leave the room and head over to a restaurant we haven't eaten at during our time here where we spend a good amount of time eating, chatting, laughing, and playing our usual game. She has gotten more creative with her stories since we started playing the game our first day here, and that brings me a warm feeling.

After leaving the restaurant, we head down to a small fair just a couple blocks down from where the restaurant is to spend the rest of our time there. We start off with playing some games and this time, I manage to win a giant stuffed animal for Lana unlike at Artenia when I barely managed to win pity stuffed animals before proceeding to go on every ride the small fair has to offer. Lana enjoys rides as much as I do so we have no trouble with any of us getting sick or an uneasy stomach, we're both laughers and a bit of screamers when it comes to rides.

When we notice it is almost time for the fair to wrap things up, we decide to buy more cotton candy and head to the one ride we haven't been on. The Ferris Wheel. We make our way over there after paying for the cotton candy and wait a short amount of time before getting on the thing, my excitement growing once the thing starts spinning. While going around we point things out to each other and laugh through out our ride, so much so I regret drinking soda earlier when I feel like I am about to pee myself. When the ride stops for the first time so that some people can get off, we manage to stop right at the top, so naturally, I begin moving so that we will start swinging back and forth.

"Cara!" Lana squeals, then starting to laugh. "Oh my god we're gonna fall!" I only laugh and try to swing us harder, succeeding, of course.

"Stop!" she squeals again. "Oh my god, Cara!" She starts laughing once again and grabs onto my arm tight. The wheel starts spinning again then and I laugh, Lana reactions being amusing. She smacks my arm like I knew she would and I begin to think about how I have gotten to know her so much more during this little holiday/getaway of ours, and that brings me so much joy.

The more time we spend together, the more she opens up, and the more I get to know her. I have seen the way she is with other people. Sweet, funny, polite, adorable, shy. It's almost as if she turns something on. Sure she is those things with me-- maybe a little less polite, I smile to myself-- but I'd like to think she is somewhat different with me, in some way. It might be a little ridiculous that I am thinking this way and how I feel so strongly for her in the given time we have known each other-- hell, it may even be a little mad. But I can't help but feel we have a connection like I have never felt with someone else before. I look at her and think about how she makes me feel... electric. Alive, excited, warm. And yes I have gotten and realized so much out of this little holiday/getaway, but I know one thing is clear as I watch her giggling beside me on this ferris wheel. The one conclusion that I have come to that I am absolutely, 100% certain about. And that is that Lana is not human.

She is an angel. She is my angel.
