Chapter 52

The next morning- or rather afternoon- I wake before Lana. I take advantage of this and go for a short jog, visiting Nina and then Stefan towards the end of it. I tell them both of my plans on leaving today. As I expected, they complain. Letting me know that I just got back and how we haven't seen each other in a while. I understand, because it is true. Things with Stefan were as awkward as I expected them to be, at least for me. When I was around him I acted strange, nervous. Even more so than when we first met. I was hoping this wouldn't happen but even when we hugged goodbye and he gave me my usual kiss on the forehead, butterflies emerged in my stomach. This resulted in internally cursing at myself and making an awkward exit. He didn't notice- at least I hope he didn't.

When I arrive back at the flat Lana is still asleep, so I head in the shower. The water relaxes my tense muscles and I take slightly longer in the shower than usual just because of this. After I finish washing my hair and body I turn off the faucets and dry my body before wrapping a towel around my head. When I walk into the bedroom Lana is finally awake.

"Finally." I say walking in. "I thought I was going to have to call the authorities to report a dead body."

"Ha ha." she remarks sarcastically. I smile and open a drawer, slipping on a brassiere and panties.

"Wait why are you doing that?" I turn to her in confusion.

"Dressing?" I ask amused.

"Yeah." she sits up, semi yawning. "Why?"

I take off the towel from my head and open another drawer to put on a tshirt.

"Well I can't exactly walk out naked." I point out.

"Who says we have to leave?"

"The flight we have scheduled to take to Jersey leaves at 6:30." I remind her. She rolls her eyes, getting up off the bed.

"We'll just buy tickets to another flight." she coos. God how I love her morning voice. She comes closer and wraps her arms around my waist, her right hand making its way down to my bum and giving it a light squeeze. "What I have in mind on doing is much, more important."

"Oh really." I smile.

"Mhm." she giggles, leaning in. Our lips meet and I feel my stomach beginning to twist. Just then, my phone begins to ring from the other side of the room. Letting out a frustrated sigh, I pull away. That could be my agent, an I don't want to miss that if it is.

"Sorry." I mutter. I walk over to the side of the bed and when picking up my phone, I see that it isn't my agent. It's Chuck.

"Hello?"

"Cara, hey- hey. I know this is sudden but have you heard from Lana? She didn't come home last night and she hasn't answered any of my calls or texts." I can hear the worry in her voice and look over at Lana, giving her a questionable glance.

"Um.. yeah. She's right in front of me actually." Lana looks at me confused, mouthing a; Who is it?

Chuck I mouth back. Her facial expression changes.

"She's- what?"

"Yeah I mean she came over yesterday." I reply. The other end of the line is silent for a few moments.

"I- she- Can you pa- Argh." she exasperates. My eyes widen a bit for a split second. "Tell her to call me back when she can." she states firmly.

"Yeah, sure. Course." I tell her.

"Okay, thanks. See you later, bye."

"Bye." I end the call and look at Lana is fiddling with the seam of her oversized t-shirt.

"You didn't tell Chuck you were coming?" I ask her, walking over to the drawer again.

"Didn't think she needed to know." she says. I take out some shorts and slip them on.

"Well she sounded worried. She said to call her back when you can." she nods at this. I put on some socks then and walk over to door to put on my chanel sneakers. Lana walks over to her clothes, beginning to dress.

We leave after I finish packing new sets of clothing. On the drive to Los Angeles Lana asks me if I had said my goodbyes to Nina and Stefan, to which I say yes. I don't mention the part where I grew nervous over Stefan because really-- why would I? Telling her I think I might have feelings for Stefan would make such a mess of things, more than it already has for me mentally. So instead I change the topic and start to talk with her about other things the rest of the drive. When we finally do arrive in Los Angeles Chuck is not home like I was expecting her to be, hoping even. I missed her those short days we were apart.

"I'm going to call Chuck and pack some things. I'll be fast." Lana tells me, beginning to make her way toward her bedroom.

"Do you want some help?"

"No its fine I got it." she brushes off.

"Oh okay. Holler if you need me." I tell her. She nods and begins continues to walk to her bedroom. I make my way over to the couch and turn on the telly, beginning to channel surf. I settle on a re-run of Modern Family and a couple minutes into the episode the front door of the flat opens, in coming Chuck.

"Hey Chuck." I smile. She turns to me and I notice her hair is out of place in a few places and her breathing is little rapider than usual. Like she is in a hurry.

"Cara." she turns to face me, making her way over to the couch. I take my feet off of the table then and sit up, Chuck's energy rubbing off on me.

"You okay?" I ask. She sits next to me on the couch and I knit my brows together in confusion.

"We need to talk before you guys leave, I need to t--"

"Chuckie!" Lana boast suddenly from the beginning of the hallway, catching both Chuck and I's attention. "When did you get here?"

I move my eyes from Lana to Chuck then, the energy of the room being a little off putting.

"Oh um, just now." Chuck says agitatedly.

"Oh well have you seen my green flannel?" Lana asks.

"Um, yeah-- yeah. It's in my room by the-"

"Can you just get it for me? I'm in a hurry." Lana asks.

"Sure." Chuck finally agrees.

"Cara help me with my stuff?" she turns to me.

"Yeah." Both Chuck and I stand at the same time. Chuck makes her way upstairs to her bedroom while I make my way toward Lana's bedroom, noticing Lana has put on a knitted sweater and changed into some flats while walking behind her. When inside Lana's bedroom Lana hands me two of her bags while she takes the suitcase. We take them to the car and right as we have managed to load everything into the car Chuck makes an appearance, a green flannel in hand.

"Thanks." Lana tells her. She nods. "I'll see you soon Chuckie." she plants a kiss on her cheek and pulls her in for a hug. I hug her afterwards and say my goodbye, remembering then.

"What was it that you wanted to tell me?" I ask Chuck.

"Oh." she realizes. I see her eyes flickering somewhere else momentarily before focusing back on me. "Nothing." she brushes off, adding a soft smile. I look at her confused.

"Are you sure? I mean you seeme-"

"Yeah, don't sweat it. Have fun in Jersey." she smiles, pulling me in for another hug shortly afterward.

"Well-- okay then." I pull away and smile, getting in the car afterward. I shut the door and pull on my seat belt, Lana getting in the car right after.

"Ready?" she asks.

"Yeah." She pulls out and I turn quickly to wave goodbye to Chuck, feeling confused when I see she wears a look on her face that I really put a name on. I shake the thought from my head and turn back to face forward, focusing more on the streets then.

When we get to the airport, things are not as hectic as I thought they would be. Thank god. We pass through everything rather quickly and make it just in time for boarding. First class is pretty empty today, only 8 other people besides Lana and I sitting there. I put on my earphones when we take off and Lana whips out a magazine. I remove the arm rest from between us and close my eyes as I lay my head on her shoulder, sighing when her scent fills my nostrils. I lower the volume of my music so that it is audible but still low enough so that if she decides to say something, I could hear her. And just then, she does.

"You fall asleep; I draw on your face."

I feel a smile creep up on my lips.
