I bring my hand to my face and rest the back of it under my right cheek as I continue to look at her peaceful face. The sound of her slow, even, breathes bringing me relaxation. She looks younger when she is asleep. At ease, and as no surprise, beautiful. She has no make-up on, which makes me question why she even bothers to put any on. She doesn't need it. Not even a little. It's quite ridiculous actually. Her breathing becomes more deep and I watch as she moves slightly, cuddling more into the sheets. I've had my suspicions that she has been awake for quite some time now, and she just confirmed them.
"Stop staring at me." she mutters bluntly. She releases a breath. "It's creepy."
I smile.
"It's romantic." I tease. She gets the pillow from under her head then and places it over her face, blocking it's view from me. I laugh and reach over for an extra pillow by my feet, hitting her with it over her stomach once I have it in my grasps. She let's out a dramatic groan, acting like it brought actual harm to her. I smile and let out another laugh when she gets up, laying on top of me.
"Lana get off of me!" I gasp, giggling. She holds her head on top of mine, staring at me directly in the eye.
"Didn't anyone ever tell you it's rude to wake someone up before 9?"
"It's 2 in the afternoon." she turns to look at the clock beside her bed, seeing that it is in fact 2 in the afternoon. She looks back at me then.
"Whatever." I laugh at her and she stares at me, beginning to tickle me right after. By now, my laughter can probably be heard all over the flat.
"Lana stop!" I gasp. "Lana! You know I don't lik- I'm gunnu pee!" but she continues to tickle me, and doesn't stop until I finally manage to get from under her. I nearly peed myself, but she doesn't care. Just like she didn't when actually did the last time I was here in Los Angeles.
"Monster!" I yell as I point at her. "I almost peed again!" she throws herself back, laughing.
"Oh my god." she manages. "I almost forgot!" I run back over to the bed and throw myself on top of of her. I begin tickling her, but remember it doesn't have the same affect as it does on me. She can control herself when she absolutely wants to. So I do what I know bothers her. I lick her face.
"Cara stop!" she gasps, my tongue on her face catching her by surprise. "Oh my god stop." she puts her palm on my forehead, pushing me away. But I jab at her stomach, making her jolt. Her phone begins to ring at the other side of the room, but both of us are too preoccupied to get it.
"Cara I need to get that." she says, one hand on my face and the other on my chest. I continue to push myself forward, almost being able to reach her face again. "Let's call a truce."
"Fine." I stop pushing forward and plop down beside her on the bed. We're both breathing heavy by this point. God. that was tiring.
She gets up off her bed and walks over to her phone, answering it just in time. I get up off the bed and adjust the over sized shirt on myself, walking over to her. She has already started talking on the phone when I lick her face one last time, moving aside quickly so that her hand doesn't smack me. I flash her a devilish smile and walk out of her room.
When I reach the kitchen I begin looking for the bowls, checking all the cabinets until I finally finding them in the last one I thought would have them. When I begin to look for any box of cereals, Lana walks into the kitchen, calling for me.
"Hey. I need to run an errand, do you want to go eat after?" I look over at the bowl that I put down on the island.
"Okay."
"Alright let's go." she leaves the kitchen after that and I move to put the bowl back to where it was. Well that was a waste.
I go back to her room and begin dressing like she is doing, contemplating on whether to wear jeans or shorts.
"The jeans." she tells me, walking past me as she makes her way towards her bathroom. I drop the shorts and begin slipping on the jeans, putting on a regular size tee afterwards. When Lana comes back out of the restroom I am fully dressed and tying a shoe lace.
"Are you ready?" she asks, looking over her shoulder as she sprays some perfume on herself. I tie off the bunny ears and get up off the bed.
"Yeah."
"Alright let's go." she grabs a cap off a drawer and tucks her phone into her pocket as she walks out of the room. I follow her and open the door as she grabs her keys from a bowl on top of a table, along with a small clutch. When in the car, I try finding a good song to listen to but end up out of luck. So instead settle for any radio station.
"It shouldn't take long." she tells me, making a right.
"Okay." I look out onto the road and watch as the light ahead turns red.
"Where are you going to want to eat?" she asks, bringing the car to a stop.
"I don't know." I say. "Where do you want to eat?"
"I don't know." she states. "What are you in the mood for?"
"I don't know." I tuck a hair behind my ear. "You?"
"I don't know."
"Well isn't that fantastic."
"We'll just decide then."
"Okay."
The light turns green and we begin driving again, a few minutes passing before finally reaching our destination. I stay in the car as Lana gets off to do whatever it is she has to do, beginning to get bored the first 20 seconds of waiting. I whip my phone out and decide to call Stefan, wondering what he is up to at the moment. He picks up on the third ring.
"Hello" a female voice answers. I do a double take.
"Hello um- is Stefan there?" I question, confused as to why a female that is not Stefans mother or sister is answering.
"Oh he's busy right now." she says casually. "Who's asking."
"Cara." I emphasize. "Who's this?"
"Hayley." Hayley? Stefan has never mentioned a Hayley before, I'm sure I would have remembered. "Oh wait he's right here I'll pass him to you."
Hayley? Who the fu-
"Hello?" I hear Stefans voice blurt out.
"Stefan?"
"Cara." he says. "Hey hey, what's up?"
"Nothing really I just wanted to call you. Are you busy?"
"No no, not at all. Why?" he says quickly.
"Hayley says otherwise." the other end is silent for a while and I feel a smile creep up onto my face. I can already see him blushing. "Why have you never mentioned her?"
"Because she is just a friend." he defends.
"Sure Stefan." I may not know every single detail, but I know better than to believe that.
"Cara." he scolds me.
"Stefan." I repeat in the same tone. He's silent.
"When am I going to meet her?" I ask, beginning to grow giddy.
"Cara."
"Oh c'mon Stefan!" I say. "I'm going back to Artenia in 2 days, enlighten me won't you?" yet again, he sighs.
"Fine." he finally let's out, and I can barely contain my squeal. I hear the door open and turn my head, watching Lana as she enters the car.
"Okay well text me. I'll see you."
"Alright."
"Alright, love you. Bye."
"Love you too. Bye."
He ends the call after that and I can't hide the smile on my face as I turn to look at Lana. She looks at me strangely, a smile beginning to appear on her lips.
"What?" she starts the car.
"That was Stefan." I begin. "He's talking to someone?"
Her expressions changes as she pulls out.
"Oh." she says. "Really?"
"Hayley." I raise my eyebrows suggestively. "I'm meeting her in two days."
"Two days?"
"Mhm." I turn to her. "When I go back to Artenia."
We continue to drive ahead and I can see from the corner of my eye that she is looking at me.
"Wait you're going back?" I look back over at her.
"Well yeah." she moves her gaze back onto the road but glances at me one more time.
"You never mentioned that."
"Well it was only obvious." and it was. My home is back in Artenia, Mia is there, my things. I can't stay in Los Angeles, as much as I would love to. She keeps her eyes on the road now, making a left. She drives until we pull up in front of a nice looking restaurant that we had eaten at previously, checking for reassurance with me first before we head in to eat.
We order what we did the last time we were here and get the same drinks, but this time ask for another bowl of tortilla chips before hand. The last time we were here, we finished them quickly and had to wait for the waitress to pass again to ask for another. Which took longer than should have.
"So two days?" Lana starts, dipping a chip into the salsa.
"Yup." I grab another chip, barely putting any salsa on it. I don't like spicy things, but the chips don't taste as good plain.
"You don't have any more jobs?"
"Not for at least a week." I shove the chip in my mouth. I look up at her and see that she is already looking at me. "What?" she stays silent for a while.
"I don't want you to leave." I give her a glum look.
"Well neither do I." I agree.
"Then don't." she says all of a sudden. "Why don't you move here to L.A?"
"What?" her sudden out burst takes me by surprise. I wasn't expecting this at all.
"Move here. To L.A. You'll be closer to the airport, probably jobs. And me." the last part she says lower than the others, and avoids my eyes. Like she is embarrassed to say it.
"Lana.." I start. I take into consideration what she is saying. Yes, I would be closer to the airport, closer to jobs, and her. But if I did move here, the main reason would be because of her. And I don't even know what we are. Maybe now, of all times, should be the time I should ask her? Oh screw it.
"What are we?" I spit out, regretting the question the second it goes past my lips. She seems taken by surprise a bit by this.
"What do you mean?" she questions.
"Us. What are we?" I repeat. "Are we.. friends? Dating? It's never clear Lana." she stays silent for a bit.
"Why do we have to label it?" she asks, and I feel a small sting. I was right.
"Because it drives me mad. I never know, and I need to." she seems to take this in for a bit. Giving it some thought before she answers.
"Well, we are we." she says. "And we are seeing where it leads."
