Chapter 40

We make our way out of the room and I shut the door, walking side by side with Jourdan as we make our way towards the elevator just a couple doors down the empty hallway. We start a conversation on the way down and I check my phone occasionally, to see if a text from Lana has came in.

"Expecting something?" Jourdan asks, catching me by surprise. I look up at her and then back down at my phone, clicking it off.

"No not really." I say casually, nodding my head no.

"Sure yeah, is that why you keep checking it every 10 seconds?"

"Exactly." I smile. She rolls her eyes playfully and laughs lightly.

The elevator comes to a stop then and I see the hotel lobby come into my view as the doors slide open. From the look of the glass doors and walls in the front, there aren't so many people inside as there are outside. I see flashes beginning to go off and I know why that is almost exactly that second. They have been following me since I arrived here in England, not many but a few. Either way, it makes no sense to me. All I know is that their bright flashes almost always cause me to lose sight.

"Where's the car?" I ask Jourdan.

"Parked right in the front, not far from the doors." she tells me. "Thank god too. I didn't think any paps would be out there. Hey, pull out a mirror. Maybe the flash will reflect and blind them." I chuckle stupidly.

The second Jourdan and I met, I knew we would be amazing friends. I just got a feeling. I was so nervous showing up to the shoot in Brighton. I didn't know anyone, no one at all. I didn't think I would relate to anyone at the shoot. So naturally, I kept to myself, just rapping to get me at ease. Jourdan of course heard me and came up to me, asking me if I was rapping. From then on, you could say we needed no small talk.

We make it out of the hotel and as expected, we are blinded by flashes. Jourdan being more use to them than I am, leads the way to the car. I follow and hop into the back seat after her, shutting the door right after. Some flashes still go off but it is much more bearable now with some form of shield not making the light so harsh. Jourdan reminds the driver of the location of the party before he starts driving again and I check my phone. Still no message.

"136?" Jourdan says, confusing me. "Or 137? I can't remember."

"What?"

"The times you've checked your phone since we left the room." she states. "136 or 137?"

I grow embarrassed and she cracks a smile.

"I'm just joking babe but c'mon. You're going to be distracted by your phone the whole night if you keep this up."

"Alright alright." I tuck my phone into my pocket and look over at Jourdan. "There." she smiles. We begin talking about our plans for tomorrow then, changing topic after topic. She brings up the phone checking after a while, since I was so quick to change the subject when she first asked me from who I was expecting something from. I answer casually, saying that it is just someone.

It's not that I don't trust Jourdan to tell her about Lana, but I just don't know how to talk to her about Lana. I know she assumes I am talking to someone- knows even. She has caught me talking to her on the phone at shoots and texting her when we are hanging out numerous times, but the truth is, I don't even know what Lana and I are. Are we dating? Or are we just friends? I almost roll my eyes. People who are just friends don't do the things we do. But, we might as well put that label with the way things seem to be going. I've been meaning to ask her, but I just don't want her to go off or switch moods if she is in a good one. It will just ruin everything.

"I think we're here." Jourdan says suddenly, looking out the window. "Driver, Driver. You can pull up here."

The driver pulls up to the sidewalk and I get out after Jourdan, following her as she leads the way, camera flashes soon making it hard to see. Jourdan and I stop occasionally to take a few photos for the paparazzi in the process, standing still for 10 seconds or so before continuing to walk.

When we walk into the party we spot the rest of the gang at a table a few feet from the dance floor and make our way over there, greeting them once we reach the table. I check my phone afterwards and see that I have a message from Lana. I go to my messages and start to type out a reply when my screen goes black.

"Shit." I cuss under my breath. I knew I should have charged my phone, I just didn't know the battery was that low.

"Cara!" Jourdan shouts over the loud music. "Lets go dance!"

I put my phone into my pocket once again and look up.

"Alright!" I shout over the music.

When we finish dancing, Jourdan and I walk around the party to talk to some people. Some I know, others I am introduced to. I manage to squeeze in some eating but by the time we actually leave the party, it is well past midnight and my feet are aching horribly. We leave sooner than everyone else, causing complaints from the rest of the group but Jourdan had told me she would need to leave what is to be considered 'early' from the party, and since I not only came with her to the party but she also convinced me to come, it's only fair that I leave with her.

The driver pulls up in front of the hotel and to my surprise, there is no paparazzi waiting. Although I am relieved, I am also a bit disappointed. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy them just a smidge. But I know that wont last long, they'll get on my nerves after a while. I scoot over to the side, closer to the door.

"I'll see you tomorrow babe." I tell Jourdan, getting out of the cab.

"Tomorrow!" she assures me.

Tomorrow being my last day here in the UK before leaving back to the united states, Jourdan and I have made plans to spend the day together. We don't have much planned, in fact, we have nothing at all besides eating together before noon but that is fine. We will figure it out as we go.

I push the 12th floor button once in the elevator and take off my shoes just as the doors begin to close, hoping I wont wake up to blisters. The elevator doors open and I make my way towards my room, shoes in hand. I pass a mother and daughter, both of them looking at me strangely. What? That girl is about 9 why is she awake anyway? I continue to walk until I reach the room and feel the ache in my feet calm some once I stand. I reach into my pocket for the key, feeling nothing, I continue to check every pocket on my body. Nothing. God dammit.

Turning to my left, I see the mother and daughter just entering the elevator. Not wanting to have to wait for the next elevator, in a fast move I begin sprinting to the elevator, each step stinging my feet. I reach the elevator just in time, slamming my hand on one of the doors and scaring the mother and daughter. I try my best to conceal my laugh and apologize, standing next to them when I see they have already pushed the button for the lobby. I catch the mother glancing at me occasionally, pulling her daughter closer to her when I catch her. I laugh to myself. What do I look like to her? A muscular potential murderer?

The elevator doors open and I walk out before the mother and daughter, walking fast paced to the front desk. I ring the bell once I reach it and wait a few seconds before and blonde woman appears from the back, flashing me a smile.

"How can I help you Miss?" she asks politely.

"I lost the key to my room, I was hoping I could get another? The room number is 902, registered under Cara Delevinge."

"Alright" she types into her computer. "Phone number and code?" I tell her the information she asks for and she gives me another key along with the first once I mention to her that I managed to lose my spare my 3rd day here, chuckling lightly to myself.

I thank her and make my way up to the room for the second time, this time my feet hurting more than the first. I reach the room and slide the key in, opening the door and making my way towards the bathroom. I remove what is left of my make-up and wash my face, taking off all my clothes afterwards. I get my phone from on top of the sink counter and walk over to the made bed, tossing the extra pillow aside along with the covers, opening the bedside drawer after. I take out my phone charger and plug it into the outlet, connecting it to my phone afterwards. I lay myself down on the bed then and cover myself with the sheets, feeling relaxation spread throughout my entire body, sighing and snuggling in closer.

I hear my phone buzz twice moments later and pop an eye open, reaching over to pick up the phone almost right away. I slide my phone open and go to my messages, reading the one Lana sent me hours ago. I begin typing with my right thumb when I decide to call instead, it is about what? 7pm over there? I push the call button and set the phone on my ear, closing my eyes once again and laying my right hand on the pillow. She picks up on the 6th ring.

"Hello?" a male voice answers. I open my eyes in confusion then, bringing my right hand back to my ear to hold the phone and sitting up.

"Hello? Who's this?" I respond.

"Who's this?" he questions, defensively.

"Cara. Who's this?" I say, starting to grow irritated.

"Cara?" he questions. "You sound different on the phone."

I replay the voice in my head a realize something then, something I feel so stupid for missing.

"Jack?"

"The one and only." he says, his voice sounding amused.

"Where's Lana?" I question, starting to think the worst. There is a short pause on the other end of the line before he speaks.

"Busy." he finally says. What is he doing with her? "Say, what are you doing calling her anyway? I thought she said she was d-"

His voice is caught off then and all I can hear after that being a few muffled movements. I begin to hear a female voice after a while and I try to listen more, pushing the phone closer to my ear and holding my left hand over my left ear.

"Hello?" her voice suddenly blares through the speakers.

"Hello?"

"Cara?" she questions.

"Yeah it-"

"Hold on." she cuts in. The other end stays silent for few seconds before she finally speaks again. By now I am a hunched over, worried, naked mess.

"What happened?" she says rushed, making me feel like I have 2 seconds to answer.

"Nothing really- I just- my phone died earlier. I guess I just wanted to talk to you?" I babble.

"I don't have time right now-" I hear her sigh. "What did Jack say to you?"

"N-nothing." I spit out. "You got there before he could I guess?" she silent on the other line so I decide to ask the question that has been running through my head since I realized who was on the other line.

"What are you doing with him anyway?" she's quiet. "Lana?"

"It's not what you think Cara- I just needed to take care of something."

"Like what?"

"Something. Look I can't do this right now, it's a busy day. I'll see you when you get here okay?"

"La-"

"Bye." she ends the call. I set my phone down and lay against the pillow, running a hand through my hair and trying to process what just happened. I called Lana, Jack answered, the Jack Lana seemed to despise, she got the phone, confused me, hung up. What is going on? I feel my phone buzz and look to the side. I reach over and bring the screen closer to my face. It's a message from Lana.

Sorry if I confused u, and if I sounded mean

It reads. Another message comes in.

I'll explain everything when u get here, miss u, see u soon bby. Xx.

I toss my phone aside and turn over on my stomach, closing my eyes once again. I feel like I should reply, but I don't really know what to say. So I don't. I try to fall asleep instead, but it's no use. I can't sleep now. God dammit.
