Chapter 28
Cara's POV
After agreeing to leave for Los Angeles with Lana I immediately started packing, not only for Los Angeles, but for London as well. Leaving for London right from Los Angeles is better than having to come back to Artenia then leaving for Los Angeles again to leave for London, it will just be a waste. I already called Holly and gave her the address to the place I will be staying with Lana so she can mail my plane ticket there instead of here, all I need now is to finish packing, tell the people I see on a regular basis that I will be leaving for Los Angeles early, and figure out were to leave Mia.
I walk over to my closet and toss another sweater of mine in the luggage where I am keeping the clothes that will keep me warm, already knowing it will be chilly in London. As always. It may still be summer here in California but it may as well be winter over there, especially Brighton where the shoot will be. As excited as I am to be visiting Los Angeles, nothing overweighs my excitement to be going back to London. It has been far too long since the last time I was in London and I miss it terribly. Before, I would go back every break from school and every summer, even if it was just for a little while. I never understood why my family moved to America, and whenever I would ask my parents they would always say the same thing. That we needed change. And maybe we did, but why America? Why not Australia or Italy? Places we already had homes.
I shake the thought from my head and grab my Polaroid film from on top of one of the shelfs that are at the corner of my room, walking over to my hand bag afterwards and shoving them in there. I rarely use my digital cameras, I mostly use disposable ones or my Polaroid because I don't trust myself with digital ones. I'm too clumsy. The last time I used one of my digital cameras was when I went to go see Lana perform live, and that was quite a while ago. And, there is just something about Polaroids that I love.
"Ready?" I hear Lana ask from the bathroom doorway. I turn my head and see her gently drying her hair with a towel while another is wrapped around her body. I almost laugh at how ridiculously beautiful she looks, even now.
"About. I just need a few more things...." I drift off, walking over to the side of my bed to grab some sandals and a pair of Chanel sneakers. Already having packed the other footwear I will need while Lana was in the shower.
"There." I say, zipping up the second luggage. I turn and look over at Lana who is walking over to the clothes I laid out for her on top of my drawer.
"You pack fast. I was in the shower for a good 15 minutes." she comments, dropping the towel wrapped around her body and kicking it aside once it lands on the floor. I awkwardly move my gaze somewhere else in the room, trying to look anywhere else but her naked body. I find myself looking at my perfumes on the shelfs and decide to walk over there, as if I did not notice she is naked in front of me.
"Well it isn't really hard, I know what the weather in London and Los Angeles will be."
I take my favorite perfume off the middle shelf and then my favorite cologne, looking at the others on the shelf after trying to decide if I should take any of them as well.
"Oh, mind if I have some?" I hear Lana ask. She reaches my side and I let out an internal sigh when I see she is already dressed in a shirt and underwear. Still, even her in that makes me feel that warm feeling again.
"Yeah, sure. Any one you want in particular?" I ask. She looks up at the perfumes on my shelfs, looking at each of them before looking down at the ones in my hands.
"What's that one?" she asks, gesturing towards the cologne.
"Oh," I move it so she can see it better. "It's cologne. It's the only cologne I own, I mostly have perfume for women but I just love how it smells. Here, have a sniff."
I spray some on myself and let it set in before tugging my shirt towards her to smell. This cologne has the best scent for men that I have ever smelled, and if it didn't smell so good, I wouldn't wear it myself. But since it does, it is the one I use more than any of the other perfumes I own.
"Mmm," she praises. "It does smell good. What's it called?"
"Axl." I say. "It's from England."
She nods, taking another sniff.
"Oh my god." she laughs. "That smells really good."
"Right?"
"Yes," she agrees. "I almost feel like using that one."
"Do it, here." I motion for her to take it.
"Oh, no no no, it fine. I think I'll use this one." she takes the Daisy by Marc Jacobs off the middle shelf and sprays herself once before spraying the inside of her wrist and rubbing behind her ears, base of throat, inside her elbows, and behind her knees. All the places perfume should be sprayed, and I know this because I was constantly told so when I first started using perfume, but I still decide to tease her.
"Just spray the whole bottle on yourself already." I say before turning to walk towards my hand bag again. She laughs and I stumble a bit when she lightly shoves me as I begin walking. I smile to myself and continue walking towards my bag, putting my perfumes in my bag once I reach it. I turn to face Lana when I see something walk into the room and then jump onto the bed. Mia.
"Shit." I curse under my breath.
"What?" Lana asks, turning to me. I see her gaze shift to Mia then back up to me.
"Mia?" she asks.
"I still don't know who will be able to care for her."
"You don't have any friends who can?" she asks, beginning to walk towards me.
"I don't know, it's last minute." I say. Nina is out of town with her family, Leah won't be able to.. and my parents are away on a holiday. The only person who I can think of that might be willing to look after her on such short notice is Stefan, but I'm not even sure about that.
"I'll just call Stefan, see if he can."
In that moment I see her expression change, shift into a sorta've sour expression. Almost... angry?
"Stefan?" she questions.
"Yeah," I answer. "He wouldn't mind I'm sure, I just hope he isn't busy."
"I don't know.. "
"Well we can't take her to Los Angeles with us, and there's no one else I can think of."
She seems to be unsure, maybe even considering taking Mia with us to Los Angeles. But that wouldn't work. I can't take Mia with me when I leave for London, and I couldn't possibly ask Lana to care for her or bring her back here. Why is she even questioning Stefan caring for Mia?
"I'll just call Stefan, see what he says."
I turn away from her and walk over to my bedside table, snatching my phone from on top of it. I slide the screen open and go to my contacts, clicking on my favorites and touching Stefan's contact for a call. I see his contact photo appear on my screen and immediately smile, remembering when I took that photo.
It was his little sisters birthday, and we were eating cupcakes. He finished his in two bites, being the savage that he is, and when he wouldn't stop trying to steal mine, I pressed it to his face. Smudging cupcake frosting everywhere. I couldn't stop laughing, but I somehow managed to take out my phone and snap pictures of him as he smiled embarrassingly sweet at the camera. I can't blame him for eating the frosting off of his own face afterwards, I would have done the same.
Suddenly, I begin to hear gibberish coming from my phone and I snap out of my thoughts, bringing my phone up to my ear to hear what Stefan is saying.
"-ara? Cara?"
"Hey! Hey, sorry sorry."
I hear movement go on on the other end of the line momentarily, waiting patiently as Stefan finishes doing what he is doing.
"It's cool, what happened?"
"Well," I start. "I was just wondering if you could maybe.. umm... care for Mia for me for a couple of days?" I ask pleadingly. I hear him let out a surprised breath before answering.
"Umm.. yeah, yeah sure. Why? Is everything okay?" he asks, beginning to sound concerned.
"Oh yeah yeah, I'm just leaving early for that job I told you I got in Brighton, remember?"
"Oh," he says. "Okay then. Did the job get moved to an earlier date or..?"
"I'm just leaving to Los Angeles with Lana. Spending some time there before leaving. I mean the flight is going to be at LAX so might as well right?"
"Right. So when are you dropping off Mia?"
"Right now actually, if that's alright with you." I say awkwardly.
"Oh." he sounds surprised.
"Is that fine?"
"Yeah, yeah of course. Just surprised. Call me when you're outside already?"
"Okay then, thank you so much Stefan. I owe you."
"You always owe me." he teases. "Hurry, Delevingne."
"Okay okay." I laugh.
"I mean it." I laugh again, knowing he is joking once again.
"Okay." I laugh. "Bye."
"Bye."
I hang up and set my phone down, turning to Lana who is now fully dressed and looking at me plainly. Her face questionable.
"He said yes." I smile.
"Good." she agrees. "Let's head out."
I nod and take my hand bag from my bed along with one luggage, thanking Lana as she takes the other. I close the curtains so that the light no longer comes into my bedroom and walk out of my room along with Lana, walking down the stairs and out the front door. I set the luggage that I am carrying in the trunk once Lana opens it and make my way to the back seat door, opening it and tossing my hand bag in the front seat before running back inside for Mia's bowls and food, grabbing her leash just in case.
"Let's go Mia." I say to her and I begin running outside again, telling her to get in the backseat of Lana's car once we reach it. She jumps right in and I set down her things next to her before closing the door. In a bit of a hurry, I open the passenger side door and grab my keys from my hand bag. I walk back into the house and stand there for a few moments. Trying to remember if I need anything else. When nothing comes to mind, I turn and walk out, shutting the door and locking it right after.
I hear the engine from Lana's car roar to life and I know it's time to leave already. In less of a hurry, I walk calmly towards the car. Opening the passenger side door and landing with a light thud once I sit down. I look over to Lana as I place on my seat belt and give her small smile, she does the same.
"So where does he live?" she asks, beginning to drive on the road.
"Not that far, I'll tell you were to go."
"Okay."
The drive to Stefan's is short, as I anticipated, but a little too short for my liking. The closer we get to his house the more sadness showers over me. I don't want to say goodbye to Mia. Usually when I have a job I will take her along with me, but this time I cant. I should have planned this out better.
"Right... here. It's this one." she slows down the car and pulls up in front of the familiar white house with the beautiful flowers scattered around the property. Some of those I helped plant, I think to myself. Stefan's mother is an amazing florist and when she offered for me to help her, I couldn't resist. I love flowers myself.
"I'll be right back." I tell her.
"Okay." she nods.
I get out the car and open the back seat door, picking up Mia's things before telling her to follow me. I close the back seat with my foot and begin walking towards Stefan's house, it's only then I realize I didn't call him. Oh well. I knock on the door three times and wait patiently for someone to open the door, Mia sitting right beside me. After a few moments of waiting, someone finally opens the door.
"Well well well, look at who we have here." his grins. And it is so devilishly alluring that if I didn't know him myself how I do, I might fall for it like all the other girls who swoon over him.
But I know Stefan's brother, and he is anything but a person who I want to be seeing right now.
"Hey Jace. Is Stefan home?"
"Stefan your girlfriend's here!" he shouts. I feel myself starting to grow hot with embarrassment and cross my arms, watching as he turns back to me.
"Now tell me my delightful Cara, to what do we owe your distinctly delectable presence to?"
I am just about to answer when Stefan comes out from behind Jace, pushing him out the way before taking the dog food from my hands along with Mia's other things.
"She's not my girlfriend. Here, take these to the kitchen." he shoves Mia's things to Jace's chest.
Jace rolls his eyes, beginning to turn around.
"I'll see you, Cara." Jace says, a faint smile on his lips. There he is, I smile to myself.
"See you, Jace." he gives me a tight smile and a nod before walking away to the kitchen and I turn back to Stefan.
"Hey," I hug him. "Thank you so much for this, I know it was last minute."
He hugs me back and I pout a bit, realizing I won't be seeing him for over a week. Stefan and I have become closer that I thought we would when I first met him that day at the Starbucks. But then again, I never really knew what we would become.
"No problem." we pull away but he keeps his hands on my shoulders, I lean my weight on my right leg and smile at him. "Have fun, alright?"
I pull my face into my chin and I smile wide, already knowing how goofy I must look.
"I will, I'll see you when I come back. The very first day." I pull him in for a goodbye hug and he hugs me tightly, only making me feel more sad.
"Text me when you get to L.A okay?"
"Alright. I'll see you." I laugh sadly and pull away.
"Be safe okay?" he puts his hands behind my head and pulls it in, kissing the top of my head like he always does.
"Promise." I pull my pinky up in front of him and he wraps his much larger pinky around it.
I go down onto my knees soon afterwards and pet Mia lovingly, kissing her repeatedly as I say my goodbyes to her.
"Be a good girl." I kiss her one last time before Stefan calls her into his home and I pout, just wanting to run after her and bring her back. Take her to L.A and England.
"Bye," I say sadly. "Goodbye, Stefan! Thank you so much again."
"It's no problem, text me when you get there!"
"I will!"
He closes the door and I turn around, walking back to Lana who seems to be on her phone at the moment. I open the passenger door and sit down, sighing after closing the door. She looks up in surprise and clicks on the top button of her phone, setting it down quickly.
"Ready?" she asks. I nod.
"Alright then," she turns to the road. "Lets get going."
