Chapter 19
Cara's POV
"Thanks Sue!" I yell out as I open the front door of the restaurant . Sue makes the best sandwiches in town and I just knew I had to have one after this long day in hell.
"You're welcome sweetie! Come back soon!" she hollers in response.
"Will do!" I say. I let the door close behind me and make my way over to my cycle, putting the paper bag in the basket and swinging my leg over the bum cushion and taking my seat, starting to pedal. Friday. It is Friday. Finally. Thank god, this week has been dreadfully long and horrendously aggravating. Something about it being a Friday just makes it 10x better.
I make a turn, getting away from the main part of town and into the lonelier part of it, the empty sidewalks seeming wider than usual today and I am not quite sure why that is. I look around, taking in my surroundings and seeing the beauty yet dullness of the neighborhood. It really is beautiful in a dull way. Beautiful because of the houses, the lawns, the children playing on the street and front yards, and dull, because it is what I always see. This is how it is always going to be in this town, and I hate the idea of that. I need change. I need to get out of here.
I get off of the sidewalk and ride across the street and onto my driveway, sliding off of the seat, as I always do. I walk closer to the garage door and take the remote out of my pack, clicking the button and walk in, leaving my bike against the wall of boxes, as I always do. I enter the house and greet Mia as I walk into the living room, setting the paper bag on the table and taking out my phone from my pack. I go to my contacts and look for Holly's number, quickly clicking the call button before I change my mind. She answers on the 5th ring.
"Holly?" I ask.
"Yes, Cara? What can I help you with sweetie?" she asks, British accent thick.
"I take back what I said earlier, ill do it." Earlier when I talked to Holly, I turned down a gig. Not knowing why really maybe it was intimidation? But now, I am ready.
"Oh thank god!" she says excitedly.
"Is the gig still available?"
What if I am too late? Maybe another model already got the gig? Oh god.
"Yes, it is. We'll send you the plane ticket right away. They should be in Sunday, Monday the latest." I feel relief.
"Oh thank god," I breath. "Thank you again, Holly. So much."
There is a knock at the door and I turn my head.
"My pleasure sweet pea. Now remember, the job is on Thursday. So make sure you leave for London on Tuesday." she says. London. It has been far too long since I have been home. Well, long for me.
"Okay, thank you."
I hear another knock on the door.
"I'll be there in a minute!" I yell. I put the phone back to my ear and say goodbye to Holly, hanging up and sighing. I got the job. This is could be huge. I giggle.
I leave my phone on the table and walk over to the front door, letting a squeal escape my lips and jumping in accomplishment. This is really happening. I smile to myself and swing the door open.
"Hello?" I say cheerily. I look around, but see no one.
Oh no. Ding Dong Ditchers.
I instantly move away from the door and open the closet door, taking out a fire extinguisher and putting on the football helmet. I move quickly to the door once again, ready to extinguish a bag of poo on fire, but am dumbstruck when I see nothing there. I haven't gotten hit by a water balloon yet either, so it can't be Ding Dong Ditchers. Still confused, I take off the football helmet look around the yard, looking both left and right. Finally turning to look straight ahead, I see a long flow of golden brown hair swaying back and forth as two white little legs hurriedly walk towards a dark blue car.
"Lana?" I call out. She turns around, her expression almost scared. As if she was caught with her hand in the cookie jar. "What are you doing here?"
I drop the fire extinguisher and helmet and walk out onto the porch, getting closer to see if it really is her. And it is. In all her glory. What is she doing here? She is suppose to be in Los Angeles or somewhere, anywhere other than Artenia. What is she doing here?
"Umm.." she drifts off, looking uncomfortable. I guess she wasn't expecting... this. Me catching her trying to leave my house after knocking. Ding Ding Ditching. If that is the case, she is horrible at it.
"I- this, this was a horrible idea, I'm sorry. I'll leave now." she turns back around and starts making her way toward her car once again. I run toward her before she can leave and grab her forearm with a good grip.
"What was a horrible idea?" I ask. Her being here is so surreal. I never expected to see her here back in Artenia ever again, let alone knocking on my door after weeks of not seeing each other, ending the way we we did. And although this situation is uncomfortable, I don't want her to leave the way she seems to be trying to right now.
"Um.." she's jittery. "I- I don't know."
She says, still refusing to make eye contact for more than a second with me. She keeps looking around and playing with her hands. Walking barefoot on broken glass seems like a better option to her than making eye contact with me right now. I grow frustrated with it and finally take my hand and place it under her chin, forcing her to make eye contact.
"Why are you in Artenia?" her deep green eyes finally look into mine and I see her face shift from nervousness to a more collected facial expression.
"I think I forgot my sweater at your house." she says. Huh?
"You think you forgot your sweater, in my house?" I ask. She nods.
"So you're telling me that you drove for three hours, to come check if you left your sweater here?" I ask. She nods.
"Yeah," she says.
"Okay." I don't need this right now. I cross my arms and turn around, starting to make my way back into the house.
"Cara." she sighs. "Wait."
I stop climbing the stairs and look back at her. She is looking at me and has a tight grip on the cardigan she is holding, looking like she is struggling to let out the words she is about to say.
"I didn't come here for a sweater." She confesses.
"You don't say."
"No," she responds.
"Why did you then?" I ask.
"I- I don't know."
"Okay, Lana. I don't have time for this." I turn around once again and start making my way into the house once again.
"Okay, okay." she says. I turn around again and see she is closer now. Right in front of the porch stairs. "I- I... wanted to see you."
Oh. That wasn't what I was expecting. She drove 3 hours.. to come and see me? Why? The way she acted the last time we where together made me think she never wanted to see me again.
"Why?" I ask. She looks down again.
"Can I just- come in? Please?" she pleads. I nod. She looks like she is struggling already. I don't want to make this harder for her, even though she deserves it.
"Yeah, sure." I make room for her at the door and she makes her way up the steps. She gives me a small smile as she enters my flat and I return the gesture. I close the door and lead an awkward looking Lana into my living room.
"I hope I wasn't interrupting anything," she says. I take a seat on the couch and start taking my sandwich out of my bag.
"Oh, not at all. Sit." I gesture. She smiles softly and takes a seat next to me, arms still crossed and straggling that poor cardigan.
"I'm sorry for just showing up like this." she apologizes again.
"Oh don't worry about it, you aren't interrupting anything." I take a bite of my sandwich and groan. God these are delicious. I look over at Lana and see her awkwardly sitting on the couch, even now looking beautiful in the simple outfit she wears. I can't stay angry at her. Just seeing that face makes me soften up. The day after she and Chuck left, I was so angry with her. I remember it vividly. I was angry at her for kissing me. Holding my hand. Leading me on. Playing games with me, and then ignoring me. I swore I would not speak with her unless she was going to apologize for what she did but even then I knew I was lying to myself. I love the woman sitting in front of me, she is my favorite celebrity. It is impossible to feel anything but love towards her, even after what she did.
I look over at her and see that she wants to say something, but is having trouble with it.
"It's okay, Lana." I say. She looks up at me confused, curious even.
"What?" she questions. I bring my sandwich down and look her in the eyes.
"What you are going to apologize for, it's okay. I forgive you." that must be it. What she is having trouble saying. I don't want to make her struggle. It kills me. I see her expression change from confused and curious to surprised and relieved. I offer her a small smile and bring my sandwich back up to my lips.
'It's okay,' I mouth.
She gives me the smallest of smiles and in that moment, I hear her stomach growl. I once again bring my sandwich down.
"Are you hungry?" I ask. She blushes slightly and I take this as a yes.
"Let's go." I set my sandwich down, wiping my hands on my skirt.
"Where?" she asks, confused.
"To get you a sandwich, of course. C'mon. Let's go."
"Oh no, no. It's fine, I'm fine." I roll my eyes.
"Oh please. Let's go. Sue makes the best sandwiches in town. C'mon." I manage to pull her up, wrapping my sandwich up and then putting my sandwich back into the paper bag.
"Well.. alright." she finally agrees. I grab the paper bag and garage remote out of my pack and start going toward the door leading into the garage while Lana starts going towards the front one.
"Where are you going?" I ask her.
"To the front, the car is-"
"Oh no no no." I interrupt. "We aren't taking the car. C'mon."
She looks at me like I am growing a second head, but follows me anyways. I smile a little at that. She trusted me enough not to question me any further.
I open the door to the garage and make my way over to my bike, gesturing my head to Poppy's on the far back of the garage.
"Bikes? We're going in bikes?" she asks. I kick up the stool and swing my leg over the seat.
"Yes we are, now hurry up." she makes her way questionably to Poppy's cycle and places her cardigan in the basket. She has a little trouble swinging her leg over the cycle and I giggle a bit at that.
"Who's bike is this?" she asks. I push the button on the remote and hear the garage door starting to open as I turn my head to answer Lana's question.
"My sister's." I answer. She comes closer to me and the garage door makes a stop.
"You have a sister? I didn't know that." she says.
"There's a lot of things you don't know about me," I smirk. "C'mon!"
I ride off of the driveway and onto the street, making sure to push the button on the remote before getting to far. I toss the remote into the basket and look back to see where Lana is. She is barely making it down the driveway.
"C'mon Lana!" I shout. I make a turn on the street to make my way over to her. She goes further down the driveway and I see the handle bars shake uncontrollably as she tries to regain balance. I can't help but belt out in laughter.
"Oh my god, Lana. Please tell me you know how to ride a cycle." I say. She makes it onto the street and makes a sharp right turn, almost falling but catching herself quickly by putting her foot on the ground.
"Of course I know how to ride a bike." she looks at me. "It's just been a while."
I laugh again and turn, starting to make a circle as I wait for Lana.
"Shut up." she says and I laugh again.
"Just don't think about it. Relax, keep your hands steady and pedal. Just ride. C'mon, you can do it." I see her close her eyes and then huff out a breath in a concentration matter. She picks up her feet off the ground and places them on the pedals, starting to pedal.
"That's it!" I yell. I hear her let out a belty laugh and see her continuing to pedal, this time never losing her balance.
"Woo!" I celebrate. I start pedaling and catch up to Lana, seeing a giant smile on her face once I look her way.
"See! You had it!" I continue. She laughs again and I join in. This is all ridiculous when you think about it but amazing at the same time. I technically re-taught Lana Del Rey how to ride a cycle.
I start pedaling faster and stand, letting the wheels roll on by them selfs. I close my eyes and smile at the feel of the wind in my face and my hair flowing in the air.
Suddenly, I feel an object pass right by me in a high speed, the air of its speed hitting me. I open my eyes surprised and see that it is Lana. I sit back down onto the seat and start pedaling just fast enough to catch up to her. She turns to look at me and laughs, starting to pedal faster. Oh, it's on.
I start peddling even faster and stick my tongue out at Lana once I am next to her, passing her right after. I hear her laugh once she passes me again and I smile as I let out a breathy laugh. I look up at the street signs in that moment and see we have to make a turn.
"Turn left!" I say. She is getting back into the swings of things. I don't want to surprise her by making a sudden turn and have her crash into something or even fall trying to do the same last minute.
We take the turn and ride our way onto the main streets, immediately going onto the bike lane instead of the sidewalk. This part of town is much more crowded at this time, I don't want people in our way and vice versa. We are almost at Sue's anyhow, taking the bike lane will make things faster.
I stop at the end of the block, getting stuck in a red light. I leave one foot on a pedal and another on the ground, keeping me from falling. Lana pulls up next to me shortly and I smile.
"Are we almost there?" she asks.
"It's in the next block. We just need for this light to turn green." I answer. She nods and I playfully push her, making her lose her balance. She quickly regains it and looks up at me.
"Bitch." she laughs. I chuckle and look back up at the light. I see it go from red to yellow and I get ready.
"Get ready," I say. She looks up and see's what I mean. The light turns green and I place my left foot back onto the pedal, hopping back onto the seat. We cross the street and I stop in the middle of the next block, swinging a leg over and getting off of the cycle.
"It's right here." I say. She then too gets off of the cycle and I kick out the stool, leaving the cycle there on the sidewalk.
"You're just going to leave it here?" she asks. I turn and around and see her confused, still holding onto the handles.
"Yeah, no one is going to steal it. And besides, if anyone tries Merl here will kick their arse. Right Merl?" I turn to the old man sitting on the old woven chair. He nods and I turn back to Lana.
"Well.. okay, I guess." she leaves the cycle parked next to mine and I turn to open the door to Sue's. The bell above rings and I see the place with the same people here as when I left.
"Sue!" I shout. Lana then enters the joint and I let the door go to close. I see Sue pop out from the kitchen door and make her way over to us.
"Cara! When I said come back soon, I didn't think this soon!" she jokes. I let out a light laugh and tuck a strand of hair behind my ear.
"I know Sue, I know. But you see here, this woman to my right is hungry and has never had one of your sandwiches." I gesture my left thumb towards Lana and shield it with my right hand, like I am keeping it a secret from her.
"What?" Sue looks baffled. "Has never had one of my sandwiches?"
I nod in disapproval. "I know Sue, I know. Quite embarrassing. But, I was hoping you could help our little situation here with your best sandwich?"
"Why of course." she immediately agrees. She then turns to Lana and places her hands on Lana's arms. "Don't you worry dear, we will help you right away."
"Thank you Sue, thank you." I say.
"Of course darling. This is just unacceptable. No one should be in this town and never try one of my sandwiches. Good god, I'll be right back, you two just stay put."
Sue makes her way back into the kitchen I look over at Lana.
"What the hell was that?" She laughs.
"That," I start, taking a seat by the door. "Was what is going to give you your first mouthgasm."
She looks at me confused, taking a seat next to me.
"Mouthgasm?" she asks. "Like, a mouth orgasm?"
"Preciously." I answer. She takes a seat next to me and I cross my arms over my chest.
"Where are we going to eat these sandwiches? Outside?" she asks. Where are we going to eat these sandwiches? I don't feel like eating here, that's for sure. And going back home feels like such a drag.
The bell above the door rings and I turn just in time to see a blonde girl enter, a flower neatly tucked into her hair. I smile to myself. I know where we are going to eat these.
"You'll see." I smile. I hear the kitchen door open and I look up, seeing Sue make her way over with a white paper bag. Good thing too, it would have been a bit awkward if she came with it set up to eat here.
"Thank you Sue. Here you go," I take out the money that I store in the waist band of my skirt and offer it to Sue, but she denies.
"On the house sweet cakes."
"Really? Thank you."
"Hey Sue, why don't I get one on the house?" Jack yells from over at the bar.
"Jack shut your trap and sit down before you hurt yourself. And tuck your damn shirt in. You look like a damn drunk hillbilly." Sue snaps.
"That's because I am a drunk hillbilly." he sass' back.
"Boy sit your butt down. Jesus." she turns back to us and I cannot contain my laughter. "Come back soon dear. You too um.." She raises her eyebrows.
"Lana," Lana answers.
"Lana." Sue repeats."Come back soon Lana."
We say our last goodbyes and make our way out of there, walking toward the cycles. I place Lana's sandwich in the basket with mine and start getting on the cycle.
"Are you going to tell me where we are going or are you going to continue to be a serial killer?" I hear Lana ask. I laugh and hop on the seat.
"I told you, its a surprise! Now c'mon. Let's go get some drinks." I begin to pedal. "Bye Merl!"
I hear Lana call out for me to hold on, but I continue. I'm not going fast enough for her to lose me. Besides, the stop we are making at Steve's Shack is at the end of the block.
"Stop right here!" I shout at her. Mainly so she won't crash into me. I hear her tires squeak and I place the money on the counter.
"Two sodas. Surprise us." I tell Kevin. He immediately gets our drinks and takes the money that I placed for him on the counter. I take the drinks and put them in the basket along with the sandwiches and start riding again.
"Thank you Kevin!" I shout as I pedal away.
***
"Cara, how far is this surprise exactly?" I hear Lana ask.
We have just made it to the end of town, over where the the woods surround the road instead of houses.
"Not so far, just a little further up." I tell her and she groans. I laugh and shake my head. When reaching the end of town, the roads start to go up instead of being flat like they are in the main part of town, and I can't say I blame Lana for her tiny complaints. If I weren't so use to this myself I think I would be complaining too.
We reach the midway of the lonely road and I stop pedaling, slowing down by pushing on the brakes a bit and getting ready for the turn into the woods.
"Woods? Oh my god you are going to murder me." I hear Lana say as we turn. I let out a laugh and continue riding on the trail, coming up to a crossroad shortly after. I take the left I always do when coming here and see the old log in the side of the trail. We are close. Just a little further...
"We're here." I say. I hop off the bike and walk into the trees. "Come here and help me."
She gets up off the cycle and makes her way towards me, looking at me questionably. I hand her her bag and drink and then turn to get mine.
"Here?" she asks.
"No." I say. Why on earth would it be here on the side of a trail? "We have to get off of this trail to get to where we are going. Come on."
She freezes.
"Listen, whatever I did, I'm sorry. Just please, don't kill me."
"Shut up." I laugh. I start walking off of the side of trail and further into the woods, looking at the floor to make sure I don't trip.
"What about the bikes?" she asks.
"Leave them there." I say.
"Okay." she says, surprising me.
We start walking further and further into the woods and I feel a smile creep onto my face once I see the clearing. It is at it's most beautiful this summer. By far. I look over to Lana once I know the meadow is in her view at smile when I see her reaction.
"This... this is beautiful." she says, looking amazed and captivated by the beauty of the meadow. I smile and continue walking.
We reach the center of the meadow and I take a seat on the floor, Indian style. I start opening the white paper bag and look up at Lana as she takes a seat in front of me.
"How did you find this place?" she asks, still taking in her surroundings.
"Well. When I first moved here to America, I had no one. No friends, I didn't know anyone, and was completely left alone. And in England over in the boarding schools, or just at home, wherever, I would always escape to the woods. And when I would wander around town here, I would come up to these woods to escape, from.. everything." I look up at her momentarily. "And one day, I decided to go a different route. And in result, I found this meadow." I pause and look up at her. "I would come here to think, escape, play. Everything. These woods and meadow are my safe haven."
I look down again and fiddle with my sandwich, huffing out an amused breath.
"You're actually the first person I've ever brought here." I smile. I glance up at her before looking back down, bringing my sandwich up to my lips to take a bite. I feel her place a hand on me knee and I look up at her.
"I am honored." she says sincerely. I smile and look at her as she takes her hand off my knee and takes her sandwich out of her bag. She unwraps it before bringing it up to her plump pink lips and I stare at her as she does so, eager to see her reaction to the sandwich. She finally takes a bite of it and I smile as she groans in pleasure.
"Oh my god." she gasps.
"What did I tell you?" I ask.
"This shit is amazing." she gushes. "Where the fuck have you been all my life?" she asks the sandwich.
I laugh and take a sip of my soda, taking another bite of my sandwich afterward. We eat and the only sound being heard during this is the birds and stream far ahead, joined by Lana's appreciative moans and groans for the sandwich.
"Someone was hungry." I say, looking at how sloppy she is eating. She looks up at me and smiles, trying to keep her mouth full of food closed. She takes the last bite of her sandwich and I laugh when she manages to smear some mayo on the side of her lips.
"You have a little.." I gesture to my own face.
"Here?" she asks, rubbing the wrong part of her face.
"No, there." I say pointing. She rubs on the wrong side once again.
"No!" I laugh. "Here!"
I bring my thumb up next to the side of her lip and gently wiping some of the mayo off of her face, noticing how wet and pink her lips look. I glance up at her eyes and see she is eyeing my lips. My laughter begins to die down and I look back down at hers, seeing her slowly beginning to lean in.
Suddenly, a bird loudly starts flapping it's wings and flies across the meadow, breaking me from my trance. I move away from Lana quickly and turn my body.
"Um.. here." I hastily reach inside one of the paper bags and take out a napkin, handing it to her quickly. She thanks me and smiles, taking the napkin and wiping her mouth.
I take a sip of my drink and look away from Lana. What the hell was that? Were we just about to kiss? KISS, and I don't exactly know if that's a good thing, or bad thing. Yes, I want to kiss Lana and yes, I was leaning in to do so but no, I don't know if that is such a good idea. I want to, god do I want to. But what if what happened last time happens again? I will be crushed if it does.
I lay down on back and run my hand through my hair. Christ. If it weren't for that bird.. I don't even know. I decide to shake the thoughts from head, getting them out of my system. I do not want this day to start ending the way it seems to be.
"God, I'm stuffed." I hear Lana say, letting herself fall back. I adjust myself so that our shoulders and heads touch and tilt my head to the side so that I can look at her.
"So am I." I confess. "But I would eat another if I could."
She laughs at this.
"So would I."
A few moments of silence pass before the two of us says anything, the only sound being an occasional animal and the stream a couple yards down. I tilt my head up after a few seconds and see Lana looking up at the sky.
"Lana?"
"Yes?" she answers. I look to the side and pick a flower off the ground, starting to play with the stem.
"Are you happy?" I ask.
"What?"
"Happy. You know, with your life. As of now. Are you happy?" I clear. I start picking the pedals off and start tossing them aside, one by one. She stays silent for a moment before answering and I almost let it go, thinking she isn't comfortable with me asking this but right before that, she answers.
"I don't know. I think I am sometimes.. but then... I just don't know. I'd like to think I am. Happy, with my life."
"What makes you think otherwise?" I ask, out of curiosity, but mostly concern.
"I don't really know why either. It's just one of those things, and, I didn't expect it to be like this." she tries to explain.
"How so?"
"I knew I never wanted to lead a normal life, so it was no surprise when I decided I wanted to become a singer, but, the criticism that comes along. I never thought people could be this cruel. I understand if you don't like it, because not everyone will, but some of the things said are unnecessary. And when people say it isn't like other popular music now a days, they don't get it. It's wasn't suppose to be. It's not. I started this because I loved it, I loved the idea of poetry and song writing together and making a career out of it. But some of the things that come along with it.. I just don't know." she explains.
I tilt my head sideways so I can get a good look at her, and what I see is what I expected. She is looking down at her fingers as she picks at them, her face in thought and sadness over her features.
"I'm not going to say to just ignore it, because you can't. Bad criticism and unnecessary, unexplainable hatred will always come your way, constantly." I say. "But you have to know and understand that there are people who adore and love you more than those who don't. Love always outweighs hate, Lana, you just need to focus and take in more of the love." I know how bad things like this could make you feel, and I know how much hell feeling terrible could be by experience. The best she can do is what I just told her to do.
I finish with the flower and throw it aside, picking another from the ground and start to pick at it instead.
"You're right." she says, surprising me. "Thank you."
I smile. "You're welcome."
I finish with the flower and throw it aside to pick another, taking the blue pedals off one my one.
"So," she starts. "Are you happy?"
I smile and throw a pedal, the heaviness from a few moments ago fading away.
"What do you think?" I ask, wanting to know the answer.
"You tell me." she challenges.
"I have my bad days, much less now than before." I say honestly. "But over all, right now, yes. Yes I am."
"Good. I'm glad." she says. I smile and start piling pedals on my stomach.
"What do you want in life?" she asks.
"We're playing 21 questions now are we? Okay." I smile. "Happiness. I want happiness."
"Any accomplishments you want?" she asks.
"No no no," I say. "It is my turn."
She groans in a complaining matter.
"Something you hold dear to in your heart?" a few moments of silence pass.
"Michael." She mutters. I do a double take.
"Who is Michael?" I ask.
"Someone in my past, that couldn't be in my present." she says and I realize who this Michael person might be.
"Is he the-"
"Yes." she interrupts and an 'oh' falls from my lips.
"Your turn." I say, trying to change the mood.
"Any accomplishments you want?" she repeats the same question from a few second ago. I smile and continue to pile the pedals.
"To become a successful actress, maybe singer." I say. "But now, be successful in modeling."
"How is that going by the way?" I feel her head move.
"Good. I just got a job for next week on Thursday." I say.
"Thursday?" she asks.
"Mhm."
"Wow. Well, that's good news Cara. It's great that you're doing well." she says.
"Thank you." I say sincerely.
"I cant wait to tell my parents. They weren't all that thrilled when I dropped out of high school."
"Are they supportive?" she asks.
"Well, yeah."
"You don't sound so sure." she says amused.
"No they are, they are. I mean, they are supportive of my sister, so why wouldn't they?."
"She's a model?" she asks.
"Poppy. Yeah, she is."
"Poppy?" she chuckles a bit.
"The second oldest. Chloe it the first." I explain, laughing lightly.
"You have two sisters? she asks.
"That I do. Poppy is a model, so I don't see why my father won't come around to me being one." I say.
"And Chloe?"
"I wouldn't say modeling is her choice of specialization." I say. Chloe isn't one for much of the modeling thing, occasionally, maybe. But mostly, it's always been Poppy and I wanting to pursue modeling.
An 'Oh,' falls from her lips and I look up at the sky again and see it starting to darken, different colors combining to create a beautiful sunset. I feel Lana get up off her back and I follow soon after.
"Isn't that just the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen?" she asks.
"Yes." I agree. And it is. The combination of the colors go beautifully together as the sun makes it's way down and out of sight. The view is breathtaking, but the heat seems to get higher as the sun goes down. Higher than it's been all day.
Sighing, I rest my head on Lana's shoulder and stare at the sunset, taking in every ounce of it's undeniable beauty. I feel her head shift and see her pick one of the flowers off the ground, the same flowers that are scattered all over the meadow.
"What are these called?" she asks. I look up at her.
"Huh?"
"These flowers, what are they called? They're beautiful."
I take my head off of her shoulder and look at the flower she is holding up in my direction.
"Oh. Those are blue hydrangeas." I answer.
"I thought so." she mutters.
"They grow much beautifully in the spring."
"I can only imagine." she says and continues to admire the floret.
She lays back down onto her back and I follow, our shoulders touching. I look back up at the sky and see the sunset in its darkest colors. What I wouldn't give for a picture of it. I tilt my head to look back up at Lana and see her as captivated by it's beauty as I am.
I decide then to snuggle closer to her, but not too much. This moment is too perfect to ruin. The sunset, the weather, this day. It is all too magnificent. We stay silent as we see every inch of the sun escape from our sight, the beauty of it all taking our words away. Soon the only light shining down on us coming from the moon and stars.
"Cara?" she suddenly breaks the silence.
"Yes?" I ask. I turn my body and lay on my side, in the same position Lana is currently in.
"Why did you bring me here?" I find myself without an answer and try to think of one, but come up short. I look into her green eyes and see them filled with wonder.
"I- I don't know." I answer truthfully.
She brings her hands from under her head and to my face, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"I think I know why." she whispers so low that if I wasn't so close, I wouldn't be able to hear.
"Why." I whisper back.
She scoots her body closer and places her right hand on my cheek, slowly bringing her face closer to mine. I gulp and look up at her eyes once her lips are centimeters away from mine, hovering. She looks at me as if asking for permission and I push my reasoning aside as I nod my head.
The moment her lips connect with mine the fire in the pit of my stomach ignites. I feel her tongue gently push into my mouth and her hand slide my hair out of my face as I taste every inch of her. I moan softly and feel her push herself closer to me as I take her tongue in my mouth and suck, our kisses becoming more aggressive. Our hands begin roaming and squeezing each other and I feel relief and lust all in one. It has been weeks since I have seen this woman and being here with her and kissing her like this is all too much.
I gasp as she swiftly pushes me onto my back and quickly places herself between my legs so that one leg is between mine, sinking down onto me. She starts to pepper wet, lingering kisses onto my neck and jaw, and without thinking, I move my hips upward. Making my groin instantly gain friction.
Oh.
I hear her lightly chuckle and start to meet my thrust in slow, aggravating motions. I feel my skirt start to rise even higher on my thighs and I moan at the friction from the material of her shorts meeting with my cotton underwear. It just feels so good, I think to myself. I feel myself starting to grow damp with need as Lana brings her mouth back down onto my mouth, claiming it. I sigh lightly and let her tongue explore my mouth, licking and caressing.
Lana Del Rey literally tastes like heaven.
We continue to kiss recklessly and I feel her hands come down onto my hips, my skirt almost at my waist. I see Lana kneel up and pull her shirt over her head, tossing it into the field and bring herself back down onto my lips. Her hands roam down to the hem of my shirt and start to tuck it upwards, swiftly pulling it over my head once I lift off my back just enough to let her do so. I am not sure how far she is going to take this, but I know that right here, right now, I trust her enough not to question.
"Can I take these off?" she whispers, looking down at my cotton underwear. I nod my head hastily and bite down on my bottom lip as she runs her hand up my leg and hooks her fingers at the waistband, sliding them down shortly after.
She bends down slowly and starts to kiss me again, slowly working her way down to my jaw, then down my neck, then chest and further down, taking me by surprise when she pushes my bra aside, taking my nipple into her mouth and swirling it around the tip with her warm tongue, making me moan into the humid night air. I breath heavily as I feel her starting to make her way further down and hover once her head is between my legs and almost beneath my skirt, feeling her warm breaths against my bare skin. It's only seconds before I break from the trance that I was in and realize what she is going to do.
I feel her tongue come in contact with my center and I throw my head back as a throaty moan escapes my mouth. I clench my eyes shut and feel them roll back. I have never been this exposed, and the feel of that only adds to the sensation.
"Oh God." I moan as she begins to run her tongue upwards, only lightly brushing against my sensitive nub but still feeling like a dream. More wetness begins pool where she is licking and I groan, opening my eyes and seeing the stars.
"Don't stop." I chant.
Her hands wrap around my thighs and rest at my hips, nervously, I make a glance down as she continues. The look of her head between my legs starting to become too much for me.
"Please," I plead. I let my head fall back against the ground and look up at the sky, dizzy and infected with a burning desire for her. I buck my hips in pleasure as she adds a finger against my clit, rubbing slow, tiny circles, ripping handfuls of grass and watching as the stars above become blurry. She begins alternating between using her fingertip and the tip of her tongue, each of them driving me completely mad in different ways. Then it dawns on me, can people faint from oral?
She begins moving her tongue back and forth over the delicate skin, pausing now and then to suck lightly and I finally can't take it anymore. My muscles continue to contract and I finally let out a throaty moan to the sky as I come against Lana's mouth, Lana groaning against my sensitive folds, the vibrations adding to the sensation of it all as I jerk my hips upwards.
"Lana," I moan. I move my hands down and into her golden brown locks as she gives my center a few more praising passes. I arch my back and pant as she lifts herself, laying down next to me and placing her head next to mine. I let out a raspy laugh, opening my eyes and turning my head to look at her.
I bring my lips down to her level, feeling our teeth touch and I grin, feeling her do the same, deepening our kiss even further. She breaks away from me after a few minutes of kissing and I see her eyes the brightest they've ever been around me.
"Let's go swimming." I say.
