Chapter Three:
Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under

Eddie was confused, he reread that letter a million times. And still the thought of Luna being off somewhere in some foreign town hurt him. It has been seven months since he heard anything from her. Since she packed up her car and left him a note. He tried to ask Athena for anything but the woman just scolded him. Blamed him for her Stardust leaving. She was coping the only way she knew how to throw herself into her job. Luna texted her every day, she even asked Athena to add her to the group chat without Eddie preferably.

The Inferno Chat

Image attachment: the Image was of Luna in the sun with some sunglasses, she was posed in front of a big blue building there were angel wings painted on it, and she has her arms at her sides and a big smile on her face.

Mercury Stardust " I am soaking up so much sun here in Texas, it's hotter than a jalapeno in a sauna."

Chimney wants the smoke: Angel wings?? You are the opposite of an angel.

Mercury Stardust: "God don't like ugly. Han."

Mother Hen, Nash the Flash, Evil Twin, and Golden Retriever liked this message.

Everyone tucks their phones away just as they enter the firehouse. It was going to be a long shift and with Eddie's constant moping they needed all hands on deck, while he wasnt showing it he was hurt, and he was using his hurt in a way that wasnt good for anyone. This thing with Ana was different, she wanted to be with Eddie so bad that was willing to do whatever he wanted and at first, that was nice it was fun but he was slowly spiraling and maybe it was the constant tossing and turning or the fact that Luna didn't even bother to hide how much fun she was having in her place.

He didn't exactly know where Luna was, she blocked him on everything even email. And it was like the universe didn't want him to find her. His heart still longed for Luna deep down even with all the endless time he was spending with Ana and he had yet to introduce Christopher to the Idea that Luna might not come back into their lives and how could he, it was entirely his fault. How could he do this? He loved Luna genuinely loved her and yet he was sleeping with his kid's Teacher it was a one-time thing or so he thought, one time turned to two, then three, and now here they were, going on dates doing things that couples do, that he did with Luna and suddenly he loves Ana, suddenly she's the only woman he wants. If only that were true, but for now he had a job to do and wherever the hell Luna was he was sure, she was enjoying it.

But still, that letter she left him played back into his mind almost every chance he thought.

Edmundo,

Where do I even start? I have never loved someone as much as  I loved you. I was all for getting married, I wholeheartedly moved in with you, and I took care of Christopher like he was my own. And somehow that wasnt good enough. Somehow I wasn't good enough. Where did we go wrong?

I couldnt do this in person because I might cave, I might end up trying to make excuses for your mistake, and that's something I can't allow myself to do. I have spent my entire life making excuses for the terrible things that shitty people have done to me. I will not do that anymore, you ruined us.

The minute you kissed her you ruined me. you turned me into someone willing to do anything for you to someone who couldnt stand looking at herself in the mirror. I was gonna sit here and apologize. Apologize to you for cheating on me. Because that's what I do.

I will not be doing that this time. I make no apologies for I chose to repair what you broke. When I met you I thought I had found the person that I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I was done. So all the boys and all the daddy issues, I didn't care about them, I was done.

You left me, you chose Ana and now I have to pick up the pieces. I have to glue my heart back together and that is something I am doing by myself. Don't come looking for me, dont bother asking anyone else for my number, and stay the hell away from me.

I never want to see you again. Please dont bother Athena. This is for the best. I was not what you wanted and that's okay. I wish nothing but the best for you and Ana. kiss Christopher for me.

-Luna

Eddie hated what he had done, but maybe this was good, maybe he and Ana could make this work. Maybe just maybe everything would turn out okay. But he can't deny his heart and his heart still longed for the moon. It was only the first call of the day to get everyone's blood pumping.

"Gunshot wound to the chest. She was already dead when we got here." Athena explains pointing to the dead body in the pool.

"Don't think you're gonna be needing those med kits."

"Yeah, Crime Scene unit's on the way. We just need to get a medical confirmation that she's dead." Athena explains she just rolls her eyes at Eddie who clears his throat.

"On it. Excuse me." Chimney walks past Buck and Eddie,

Buck furrows his brows. "Uh, did you just say "excuse me"?" he leans in close to Eddie. "Chimney's being weird."

"How can you tell?"

"Ooh, ooh, hey, whoever killed her kicked that gate in good. Saw a clean footprint on it." Buck points to the back Gate which was on the ground.

"Well, that foot would be mine. The gate was latched shut from the inside. The front door was locked too."

"If everything was locked when you got here, how'd the murderer get in or out?" Eddie asks as Athena just ignores him. She was going to be petty for as long as she could or at least till Eddie came to his senses and brought Luna home. Until then she was the conductor of the Petty Express.

"It's a locked-room mystery."

"A locked-yard mystery. What do you think? A home invasion gone bad? Murder for hire." Eddie says to an eager Buck.

"Was she married? 'Cause you know. The husband is usually the culprit."

"Are we making a true crime podcast?" Athena mutters.

"Calling it some signs of struggle. Looks like a fresh manicure, too." Hen was inspecting the victim's hand.

"Guessing that the broken nail would have bugged her less than the bullet hole."

"You got an ID for the paperwork?" Hen asks as detective Rick walks into the back.

"Yeah, the victim's name is Delia Norwood. She's the owner and sole occupant of the property." He trips over a gardening nome. "And an apparent fan of tiny garden statuary."

"How you doin', Rick?" Bobby greets,

"Nice to see ya, Bobby."

"Hey, you know, none of this mail is addressed to Delia Norwood it's not even the right house number," Eddie explains as Buck's face perks up.

"So she was stealing people's mail. Maybe she saw something she wasn't supposed to

and it got her killed."

"Okay, Cagney and Lacey. I think your work here is done." Athena mutters.

"All right. Let's saddle up." the 118 begins leaving.

Everyone was gathering around for dinner it had been a long shift and it was only just beginning they had another twenty-four hours to go. Bobby was pulling a casserole out of the oven.

"Where's Buck? Is he joining us?"

"On the phone with Dr. Copeland. Emergency therapy session." Eddie says setting the table.

"Again?"

Eddie nods. " Yeah. He had to ask her for advice on some, uh, de-escalation techniques." everyone makes a face, as Hen's phone pings.

" What, is he afraid his parents' visit is gonna turn into a hostage situation?" Bobby says.

Chimney drops the utensils on the floor. "What?"

"What do you think they're like? The parents, I mean. I mean, I look at Maddie

and then I look at Buck, and I'm like "There's a story there."

"You have no idea," Chimney mutters.

"None of us has any idea. Just too bad, 'cause you know if we all knew, we could talk about what we know, and then we'd all know it. No one would be stuck keeping anything to themselves, alone, with no one to talk to about some potentially explosive information they wish they didn't know." Chimney looks up seeing everyone staring at him. "I gotta go." he takes off down the pole.

"Do we even wanna know what that was about?" Eddie furrows his brows.

"No."

"Not."

Eddie chuckles shaking his head. " Kay."

Bobby pulls out his phone as it pings again. "Awe Luna sent a photo to Athena look." Bobby shows the photo to Hen who takes the phone from his hands.

"Man she is living the good life. Whose the woman?" Hen hands the phone to Eddie.

He stares at the photo, seeing Luna her face pressed against another woman's she was wearing a hijab and making a silly face, her tongue sticking out.

"Her new friend and the firehouse she works at, She and Athena talk every night, and this new firehouse is awesome she loves her team. It's very diverse. Athena is happy for her but.."

"You can tell she misses her." Hen finishes as Bobby nods.

"She wants Luna to come home...but she is also happy to see her happy." Bobby and Hen both look at Eddie who hadn't stopped staring at the photo.

Buck walks upstairs his smile faltering when he sees everyone looking at Eddie. He walks up to his friend seeing what he was looking at Luna. His heart was hurting because he loved her, but he was too stubborn to admit it.

"Let's eat yeah?" he hands Bobby back his phone and everyone shares a look. They knew he was hurting but they also knew that he hurt Luna and that was terrible. She hated him and nothing was going to fix that.

Their next call was the next day something along the lines of a bomb threat. The 118 arrives on the scene.

"Clearing the building now, but we need to shut off gas and power as a precaution" Deputy franks explains to Captain Nash.

"Eddie, you're on electrical Buck, I want you to go up the street, and shut the gas off at the main."

"Copy that." the two take off to go do what they were told.

"Cap, power's out, but I just got word that a janitor might have had an asthma attack and collapsed in one of the stairwells."

"Copy that. Sending Chimney your way." Bobby explains as Chim runs inside.

Chimney gets caught down in the boiler room with the bomber. He was talking with him. Like actually talking with him. Stan was holding a dead man's trigger. Chimney was talking about Buck unbeknownst to well everyone. In the end, they get Stan out of the building without blowing up a bomb.

Buck had an uneventful dinner with his parents. And now he was currently beating the shit out of a punching bag Eddie just stands off to the side watching him with his hands in his pockets. A yawn escaped his lips. He hadn't been sleeping well.

"Tell Mom and Dad how you feel! It'll be a fresh start! Ah! Two dinners. That's all it took, two dinners,

and I am 12 years old again Trapped between my sister and my parents. And now planning my awkward apology."

"What do you have to apologize for?" Did you say anything that wasn't true?" Eddie says.

" No, but"

"Well, look. Maybe you could've come at it a little differently, but if that's how you feel, how they made you feel, you have every right to say so." Eddie continues.

"Yeah, I don't need any more therapy. I just wanna hit things."

"I've been down that road. I don't recommend it." He shakes his head at Buck's hands in his pocket. He stops him from punching the bag.

"Yeah well I dont recommend Cheating on your girlfriend but here we are." Eddie sends Buck a look. "Oh come on we can't keep tip-toeing around this anymore. Eddie, you did a bad thing." Buck's phone starts ringing and he turns it over.

" Maddie again?"

"Yeah. She's worried about me." Buck kicks the punching bag. "Ah!"

"Can't imagine why." Eddie mutter sarcastically walking off Buck just rolls his eyes.

That night Buck being the sleuth found Luna on Instagram he sent a screenshot of the profile to Eddie before adding it as a friend, Luna must've been on her phone because in an instant the profile pops up all these photos appear. There were a few photos of plants and spots in the desert where she was hiking. The caption read. "Fave new Hiking Spot" her shadow was seen in the background. He scrolls through the photos Luna was smart to not add the location in any of the photos but she did tag a few people, he clicks on a more recent photo. "Scooby Gang" must have been the people from the new fire house she worked at. He clicks each Tag there was a guy named Mateo, he looked way too young and eager. Then there was Marjan. She was the biggest and baddest woman firefighter he had ever seen besides Hen. Then there was TK he was honestly really handsome Buck looked over every photo on his page twice. There was Paul, it looked like he and Luna grew up together, there were really old photos of them together at the bottom of his profile, and there was one last person in the photo. He had his arm around Luna's waist. They were standing in front of a neon sign. He clicks his profile and is shocked to see this guy is handsome his name is Perry. It looked like He and Luna just started hanging out, the most recent post was with her. One of their hands holding ice cream "Ice cream date with this cutie." there was another photo of Luna she was covering her face with a stuffed octopus which had a cute little angry face on it. "Someone's Hangry.".

Buck was worried, Luna might not come back because his friend was too stubborn to admit he was wrong and go find her. Instead, he was still messing around with Ana. speaking of his stupid friend Eddie had tucked Christopher into bed. He was out like a light as Eddie sits down on the couch next to Ana they were watching some movie. His phone pings and he fishes it out of his pocket seeing a text from Buck. He sits forward when he sees what it is, it's a screenshot of Luna's profile than a few screenshots of a profile she was tagged with. Some guy by the name of Perry. His heart hurts, but his blood was boiling. He scrolls through the photos that Buck sent and they bother him. This guy was touching his girl. He was making her laugh and taking her out for ice cream and he should be doing that. He could be doing that and yet. He was here with someone he didn't like or love watching a shitty movie.

Life was fickle like that.
