Chapter Eleven : That Boy is Mine

The problem with Taylor is that he didn't like watching Luna be happy. She was with a new man and he was everything she needed all the good and none of the bad. Taylor wanted her back and if that meant he had to ruffle some feathers then let it happen. Let it be the straw that broke the camel's back. There was a storm coming in Luna's direction and it might send a few people in a fit of rage.

Luna wasn't expecting to be called here of all places. It was a healthy outlet for letting out your anger. The other woman Emily kept screaming and lunging at Denise, her friend who in all honesty deserved what she was getting, but Luna had a job to do and after pinning Emily back and telling her to cool her jets. She was able to hand her off to a deputy who was holding her off to the side in the corner. The 118 arrive onto the scene quickly while Athena is taking statements, Luna is trying to get Denise out of the barrel, or at least take her statement.

" Your victim's in there." Athena points to where Luna is laid down on the floor.

" -Where?" Bobby asks.

Athena sighs. "There. Your victim climbed into the barrel after her BFF started chasing her -with a sledgehammer."

Bobby walks over to where Luna is and Eddie helps his girlfriend up off the floor. "I thought the point was to smash things, not each other."

" Wife." Luna points to the woman in the corner being held by two deputies. " Mistress." she looks back at the barrel.

" Adulterous slut!" Emily yells. Luna walks over to where Athena is standing with the rest of the crew

"Does the adulterous slut have a name?"

"Denise. She can't hear you very well in there. Ears ringing." Athena explains to Chimney who nods before walking over to the rest of his crew.

In the end they Get Denise out of the barrel using the jaws of life and a saw.

The shift was already coming full force ahead and they had only just begun. Luna was going to do her first ever show and tell.

Which meant she was shadowing a fire house of her choosing. It was a monthly thing they did where police officers followed firefighters and paramedics onto calls to see how it worked from their end and then the paramedics and police officer got to shadow an officer the next time.

Athena did hers last month and now it was Luna's turn, only this time she was in for a very rude awakening. Of course with the lawsuit things were being pushed back, which meant Luna had a few more hours before she had to go into the firehouse, although with the text messages she was getting from Eddie she felt she needed to go in earlier.

She meets them at the slaughterhouse being brought there by Athena from that moment forward she would be driving in the fire rig with the other members.

"The damn fools locked themselves to the belt and the motor got kicked on. Now it seems to be stuck." The slaughterhouse owner explains as Luna is clearing back a few protesters.

" Can you cut the power?"

" I did that, I got 1,400 duck carcasses starting to rot."

She watches as Toby, one of the members of the protest group, is let free from the bike lock after Lena cuts it off with Bolt cutters.

"got some bruising, possible swelling of the trachea. We're gonna get you to the hospital. They'll check you out there." Chim and Hen were helping Toby over to the Gurney.

" I'm fine. I don't need to go to the hospital."

"He needs to go to jail." The manager of the slaughterhouse walks over to the machine's breaker box and turns it off. "I would like to press charges." he nods to Luna who is fuming.

"When I asked you earlier if you could turn this machine off you lied to my face,"

"Yeah well I ain't been known to tell the truth missy. So?" He gets in Luna's face and Eddie steps forward a bit.

"So you could've done that the whole time, and you just let it run?" Bobby pins him by his shirt against the wall.

" -Ah, man, they were trespass—"

"They're just idiot kids! They could've died!" Bobby was in his face now the man looked at Luna.

"Aren't you gonna do something?"

She just shakes her head before approaching Bobby. " Bobby." she speaks up as Toby starts coughing violently behind them.

"It's gotta be that key. Keep coughing, buddy."

"-Starting the Heimlich!" Eddie begins doing the heimlich only it doesnt work.

"The kid is turning blue." Luna comments rushing over to help. "He's not breathing."

"All right, get him on a backboard, now! Let's go! "

"I got a pulse." Hen says as Luna nods.

" Let's ventilate." They go to Ventilate and blood appears in the mouse cover.

"The key must've torn his trachea. We gotta try to get it out." Luna says as Chimney nods.

" Lena, my bag. Magill forceps."

" Oh, God. Please don't let him die on my property." The manager Tim says as Luna rolls her eyes. She, Chimney and Hen get to work on Toby and pull the key out of his throat.

" Chest is rising. He's breathing." Hen sighs in relief as does everyone else. Luna pulls herself up off the ground approaching the manager.

"You still wanna press charges?"

"I think we're good." Luna helps them get him in the ambulance. She was laughing at a joke with Eddie when the driver from the ambulance walks up to open the door.

"Luna? Luna Morgan." Luna freezes at the sound of the person's voice Eddie can see she is scared, the worried look on her, the scared expression, the tension.

"It's Sergeant Jennings. Morgan is my older name." she puts her best smile on her face.

"I like Morgan better," Taylor's smile was wide, almost maddening. "Diaz I am gonna get our guy to the hospital. Nice running into you. Lulu." Taylor leaves the drive the ambulance and Luna feels her world drain of color, she had just got done talking with the Devil himself.

"You okay?" Eddie was shining a pen light in her eyes, she just nods walking away she losses her balance and he steadies her. "You look like you just saw a ghost." he replies as Luna just stays quiet the rest of the day she was quiet. And their shift was over Luna went her separate way from the 118 leaving a Very confused Eddie Diaz in her wake.

//

The world didn't seem real anymore, it had been two whole weeks since he and Luna talked last and Eddie was on edge. He called and texted her but she wasn't picking up. The phone would just ring and ring and ring. And he was growing worried, surely something was wrong right? He couldn't think too much about it at the moment, not when Christopher was going to have his very first sleepover.

" Okay, bud. Let's go. All right, strong legs." He picks Christopher up and places him on the ground. "There we go. Are you sure about this? I'm gonna have Carla pick you up after the party."

Chris smiles. " No, Dad. I--I wanna go."

" Hey, guys! You made it! Dillon is so excited! Maybe now he'll stop talking about it. Wait, who am I kidding? No, he won't." Dillion's mom laughs.

"You got my emails, right?"

" I did. Very detailed." Dillion's Mom smiles at how overprotective he was.

" All right. Be good, have fun. Call me if you need anything, okay?"

" Okay, Dad. I love you. "

"I love you too, kid." Chris eagerly walks off.

"Thank you." He sighs watching Chris walk away with Dillion.

"He's going to be okay, Eddie."

"I know. He hasn't had a nightmare in a week. The doctor says a sleepover will be great for him. I'm not sure how good it's gonna be for me." Eddie admits. He was never one to say how he felt but since meeting Luna she had him opening up more being more aware.

"Listen, don't worry. Dillon's got this whole camping situation set up in the backyard, and Ron'll be in the tent next to them. Okay, we'll call you if there's any problem. Now, go relax. Recharge. I will return him to you in one piece tomorrow." Dillion's mom pats Eddie on the shoulder.

"Thanks, Tasha."

"-Mm-hmm." Tasha hugs Eddie before walking off. He retreats back to his truck.

" Hey, that's a handicapped spot."

"I know."

"Oh, you know." The guy laughs. " Oh, that's rich. I had knee surgery and had to park three rows in, but, uh, look at you. Must be nice to own the world."

" Look, I'm not doing this with you, man. My kid has CP, and I just dropped him off."

" Yeah, I'm sure. Like those guys that put dummies in their passenger seats so they can use the carpool lane." The guy sasses as Eddie's eyes go wide.

He slams the driver's side door closed. Approaching the man. "Did you just insult my kid?"

"-I ain't insulting anybody. I'm calling you out. You got something to say about that?" Eddie was already nervous about Christopher having a sleepover, he was worried about his girlfriend and now this guy was insulting him of course he took matters into his own hands and punched the guy in the face.

//

Luna never expected to get a call from Eddie about needing to be bailed out, but she couldn't see him not without him getting hurt so she sent a very special person in her place to pick him up, Lena Bosko. The two women had grown close over the days having survived Tsunami and all.

The minute she saw that Taylor was in town, she decided to pack a bag and leave. she didn't think quick enough, he was at her door in an instant. Blocking her from leaving, telling her how much he missed her, how her smiles seemed to haunt his dreams, how her scent of jasmine and coco butter was the only thing he thought about.

He agreed that she should stay with him for a while. They should rekindle their relationship and by agreeing well you get the jist he was threatening her, telling her that if she told anyone, she would hurt everyone she grew close with. She had put on a good face at work and pretended she wasn't scared to go home.

He was watching her ever move and she wanted to escape but how could she, Taylor's parents were powerful people, his dad was the police commissioner of Chicago Police department, His mom was a famous ER surgeon, she had several books out and was known all across the globe. Luna was the one who got away, who broke their only Child's heart. They never liked her, telling Taylor she was too stuck up for him. If they only knew.

Luna was on the beat with Athena after seeing that body cam footage those officers racial profiled Micheal and no one could deny that, not the captain, not the board, not even the two Sergeants themselves. The captain explains how there's nothing that can be done, that Reynolds has a history of doing this and that of course sets the two women off the edge. Reynolds really thought that he could get away with this time, well he should think again, he messed with a lioness and not only will she protect her cubs but better best believe she will always have backup. They of course Pull Reynolds over. The two walk up towards his car.

" I'm a cop, I was ju–"

" leaving your favorite watering hole after shift? O'Neil's, right?"

" License, registration and proof of insurance. Sir." Luna smiles as Reynolds rolls his eyes.

"You gotta be kidding me."

"Oh no sir, we were just driving in the neighborhood and saw your car swerving in and out of the lane. Figured we have a chat." Luna says as Athena nods.

" Turn off the engine. Step out of the car for me." Reynolds grunts. Stepping out of the car. "How much you have to drink tonight?"

"A couple of beers."

"What's a couple? Two? Twelve? I'm afraid we're gonna have to do a field sobriety test."

"Legally, I can refuse that."

" And legally, I can throw you in jail. Objective symptoms. Glassy-eyed, smell like alcohol-- since we are all by the book now. Follow the pen." Luna just leans up against his car watching the whole thing happen, she pulls out some M&ms from her pocket.

" You don't give a damn about a DUI."

" Careful, now. I've heard talking back to an officer is liable to get someone slammed up against the hood of a car, even cuffed." Luna sasses as Reynolds rolls his eyes at her,

" Listen, Sergeant, I didn't know that was your family when we made the stop."

" Oh, they were lucky, then. Somebody else's family, and they could be making funeral arrangements right now. Walk and turn. You know the drill." Athena gestures for him to start the sobriety test.

"It was all a big misunderstanding. I'm sorry if your family got–"

"Keep your weak apology. Stand on one leg. Humiliating, isn't it? Being treated like a criminal. Singled out for no good reason. Harassed by a police officer with questionable motives." Athena says.

" I can report you." He looks to Luna. "Both of you. This is retribution."

"If it was retribution, I would've done it when your kids were in the car." Athena sasses.

"I really am sorry, Sergeant. "

"You have a nice night, Make good choices." Luna calls after them as they walk back to the squad car.

//

Luna didn't know where else to be but it was three in the morning and something told her to run, something told her to use what little strength she had left to pick herself up, but she couldn't not when everything else was coming down around her like a pouring rain. Wet and hard, chaotic and unwavering. If only it were that simple if only, she had a knight in shining armor, life was some fairytale where the damsel needed saving, if only....

Rage is defined as an intense or violent type of anger. Road rage, office rage, even airplane rage. Seems like the whole world is on the edge of snapping lately.

Eddie walks into Cap's office seeing him doing paperwork, he knocks and Bobby gestures for him to sit. "Hey cap, have you heard of a new guy...."

"Which one?"

But it's not the only way we use that word. A raging fire. A raging storm. A rager of a party. All things that are out of control.

"He's about 5,10 dark hair, blue eyes..."

"Taylor Hickson yeah, new guy transferred from Chicago, his skill sheet was cool," Bobby smiles. "Yeah he came highly requested."

"Huh? Did he ever say why he came?"

Bobby shrugs. "Something about always wanting to be somewhere sunny said LA was calling to him." Bobby's face turns inquisitive. "What's this about?"

And maybe that's where our rage comes from. A feeling that our world, our lives are out of control. When we feel helpless... powerless... weak... The rage starts to build, and it needs an outlet.

"Nothing, he just piqued my interest." Eddie rises from his seat. "Have a good night Cap."

So what happens when we let it take over? Do we regain control by unleashing our fury? Or have we crossed a line we can't come back from?
