17. The clock strikes.
I roll onto a wood floor similar to the one I just left. I made it.
"I made it! Ha! Take that Purgatory sons of-"
"Excuse me. Riley? Are you really the Vision?"
I turn to an old man in a rocker. His thin beard staggled over his bowtie and his face wrinckled, but it was my Doctor that I knelt in front of.
"Yeah, hi honey." I kissed his cheek.
"It's been so long. I thought you were dead until I found this." He reached into a pocket and pulled out the watch I opened almost ten years ago.
"Here it's yours." He pushed it into my hands and I put it into my pocket.
"I opened it already." I took his hand and put it on my collar.
"Two hearts." He smiled as I nodded.
"Where is the Tardis? Surely you could leave?"
"Nah! Not while the enemies are still fighting. 500 years I've protected this town. I'm not going to give up easily." He started to get up as there was a small explosion from outside.
"I got this one." He started to get out his Sonic when I whipped mine out.
"Ah." He sighed as I ran out of view. Then I flew behind the aliens. Four red, suckery zygons.
"So I suppose you are used to the Doctor's no kill policy?"
They startled and faced me, but I had already jumped over them.
"You are the replacement for the old man?" The leader asked.
"No. I'm his wife." I press my palms to two flat heads and kill the leader and his second. "And I'm not ashamed of killing those who would kill me." I say as I plunge my blade into another Zygon. The fourth shifted and formed into an almost perfect copy of me.
"You missed a few things." I flashed my eyes and cast my winged shadow on the church doors. Then I beheaded myself. "Well that was theraputic. Same time next week?" I then fly around the town searching for any others. I find two weeping angels and drop in front of them.
"Hello ladies. Not portraying real angels very well are we? I'm not one to talk either I suppose. You wanna see what a real angel looks like?" I place my hands on them, close my eyes and show myself as their quantum locking disables. After two seconds they are dust at my feet.
...
"I'm back! I brought some bananas and pears."
"Eew pears. Bananas are good though." We laughed.
It continued like this for a hundred years. The crack still asked Doctor Who?, but now it asked me Riley what?. We ignored it. We passed the time by talking and fighting monsters. I tried to share my strength with his, but being disconnected from heaven, hell, and purgatory weakened even me over time. During the last days I could do good to fight three hours without getting winded.
One day we were talking about how old we were.
"How much longer will you live after I'm gone? How many regenerations?" He asked me. Our Green eyes met.
"I don't have any left. I gave them to my husband."
" Let's make a deal. When we go, we go together."
"I'm an angel, technically I'm immortal except for murder by an angel blade."
"And you've been everywhere except earth or heaven for the past century. Just humour a mad old man."
"Without his box." I smiled and got up.
"Let's go. Off to bed, tomorrow is Christmas and I want to bake a ham." He got up and followed me to the bedroom where I helped him get dressed for bed. His shaking hands won't allow him to work with buttons anymore.
"Goodnight." I told him as I shut his door. I am still an angel, so I don't sleep. Instead I fight. Daleks, cybermen, weeping angels, slithene, basically every enemy of the Doctor. Except the Silence, they are now our allies.
I join the soldiers, surprising none with my sudden appearance.
"So what do we have tonight?" I asked the young General.
"Daleks, again. They seem to be giving their all this time." I nodded.
"Well I suppose we will have to try operation blindside on them." The General looked worried.
"That operation is too dangerous. It could mean the death of the entire city."
"Not the whole city, only those who look at my true form. We can block the windows, have everyone stay inside, black out our soldiers' visors. The only one's who have to die are the Daleks."
"How do we know that even kills them?"
He asked and I stormed off towards an old barn where I kept my prisoners of war.
"Hello boys and girls. Ready to see something new?"
...
I turned back to being Riley milliseconds before the door opened and a young soldier entered. He was fidgety towards all the dead aliens.
"You are one lucky kid. If you would've opened that door a half second sooner you would look like that." I pointed to a cyberman whose eyesockets melted to reveal a burned skull. I then turned from him to check the dalek whose eye was melted.
He walked forward and slipped in a fresh pile of horse manure. I caught his arm when he was halfway down.
"Woah, watch your step."
"The General says you are to come and fight against the daleks, and that they want the Doctor. Do you want me to get him?"
I yank the whisk off of the dalek, sonic it, and toss it to the boy.
"Take this and fight I rigged it to fire with a press of that button. Hold it like a sword, there you go." His hand was inside the cube that triggered the shot.
"About the Doctor, I will tell him in the morning. He is so old now, I don't know how much longer he will last. Come on, let's go kick some cans."
I grabbed his shoulder and reported to the front line. The young man looked sick.
"I know, it takes some getting used to. You allright? " He nodded and I left him.
"Plug your ears!" I shouted to my soldiers. They put on earmuffs and kept firing at the daleks as I spoke enochian to shatter their circuits.
I sent the all clear when I stopped talking so that they could hear commands. We fought all night and lost many before I could heal them. In return I blew up the nearest three dalek ships and any that had entered the atmosphere.
The General's face was priceless.
"Why didn't you do this hours ago? We have lost men, and you destroy the creature's with a shake of your hand. What are you playing at?"
"I needed time to figure the weakest points of the ship so that when I destroyed it, the pieces wouldn't fall on anyone or anything. Now if you will excuse me, I have a ham to cook."
I swished back into my kitchen and prepared the meal. Then I went upstairs and found the Doctor already up and fussing with the buttons on his shirt.
"Barnable? Is that you?"
"No its Riley."
"Ah sorry sweetheart. You look tired, I told you to rest. Angel or not you don't need to fight all the time."
When I finished helping him with the buttons, I got a bowtie out and tied it around his neck.
"What would I do without you?" He asked when I got done.
"Probably take an hour to get dressed. Come on I've got breakfast ready." I handed him his cane and popped downstairs, where we had toast and scrambled eggs with a bit of bacon.
"How's the fight?" He asked and I pretended not to hear.
"I could hear the daleks and woke up. Please tell me."
"They are coming pretty hard. I blew them up before I came home."
"How's Operation Blindside?" I scoffed.
"Huh, the General won't let me for fear that it could kill our side too. If they close their eyes until I say it's ok they will be fine. Have you finished making that toy?"
His eyes lit up with talk of his toy repairs. He loved to see the smiling children.
"I'm almost done, actually. Just a little bit more shaving and the dog should race across the room."
...
After I did the dishes and left the Doctor in his rocking chair with his toy and his supplies, surrounded by drawings the children had made. I was getting ready to go back out.
"Going back are you?"
"Yeah, someone has to blow up ships as they enter the atmosphere."
" Can't you do that from here? That way nothing can hurt you, or take you away."
"The only thing on this planet that can really hurt me is my angel blade, and I have that right...where is it?" I checked all my pockets.
"I can't find it. Have you seen my angel blade?"
"No. I haven't. It must be around here somewhere though. You don't need it to fight daleks anyways."
"Yeah, your right. I'm going now, I love you."
"Love you too." I landed in the middle of the fight, we'll actually in the middle of a group of daleks. I was the fight.
The battle continued and we started to be pushed back. The General came up to me.
"Tasha wishes to see you." I nodded and went to the leader of the silence.
"You wished to see me?" I asked her. She had bony cheeks and dark hair, on her forehead was a scar from being turned into a dalek puppet.
"Yes, but not like that. You are in church." She gestured to my clothes.
I sighed and took them off.
"Wow many battle scars. What is that?" She pointed to a Leviathan bite that didn't heal.
"A monster unknown to all planets but one, Leviathan."
"Turn around, I wish to see your wings." I rolled my eyes and showed them.
"Very lovely. Even the stump is incredible." I used my wings to cover myself.
"What did you want?"
"We have a spy. My people recovered pieces of a transmission that concerned you."
She handed me a paper and watched as I studied it.
"Someone is going to kill me."
"Yes, what is your plan?" I have a plan? Am I supposed to have a plan?
"Not die. If I do, get Clara. Don't let him die alone." She nodded and I left after picking my clothes back up.
I made myself invisible while I got dressed.
The daleks were above us now. I flew up and demolished the ship. A fine gold dust is all that was left of the menace.
I landed and started fighting daleks. Eventually they surrounded me.
"Maximum Extermination!" The leader yelled.
"Exterminate!" About twenty shots hit me. I crumpled and started to show my true self.
I heard a human voice above me when I contained myself.
"You could've been an ally, but you chose the humans." I felt him move to stab me in the back, so I roll and protect myself with my now visible wings. The blade pinned my wing to my chest and stabbed right through my left heart.
I gasp and feel myself dying. My insides were burning.
I look at my blinder-wearing assassin. It was the young soldier that came to the barn.
"You took my angel blade when I caught you." I spat out blood as I pulled my blade out. "Too bad for you that I have two hearts." I shoved the blade up into his gut and twisted. He dropped and shrieked in pain. I tore his blinders off and stared him in the eyes. I pulled out the blade and healed him with a touch to his forehead.
"Lucky for you I have two hearts." I stood as best I could while holding my wound. I stumbled into church , grabbed Tasha and dropped into the Tardis.
"Get. Clara." I was seeing two women stand at two consols.
We landed and the brunette burst through the door, disappointed by the lack of Doctors. I couldn't make out the conversation through my pounding head. They looked at me worridly.
I must have blacked out for a second because Clara slapped me awake.
"What happened?"
"Got. Stabbed. In my. Left heart. Angel blade. Only thing. That can. Kill me. Dying. No regeneration. My Husband. Alone." She looked worried and confused.
"It will be ok. Who are you?"
"Archangel. Demon. Angel Of Time. Timelady. The Doctor's wife."
"It didn't ask what you were. Who?"
"It's been. So long since. Someone asked me. I am Riley, the Vision."
"Your going to be ok. The Doctor will help."
"NO! He isn't to know. I'm dying. Please. Don't let him die alone. I love him, too much." I acted like I passed out again as we landed, then I flew to the top of the church bell tower.
The people were overcome by the daleks who were on the fields and in the air. I had no more juice, but I still had one play. Operation Blindside.
But someone was coming up the stairs. I made myself invisible.
"Doctor." The dalek said.
"Yes yes I'm coming. I'm a bit slow, not at my best right now." He walked past me and sat on a bench.
"You are dying."
"Yes, I know. You lot have been trying to kill me off for centuries, and here I am. Dying from old age. With my wife beside me." He was looking at me, my power had just run out.
"Hi honey." I whispered.
"Sorry, I can't. Outlive this."
"You will die and the Timelords will never return."
"But you still can't work up the courage to shoot me! Your still afraid I've got something up my sleeve!"
He yelled. I felt my injured wing burn.
"Doctor." He looked over at the blackened bell.
"Well you knock yourselves out boys, I've got nothing."
My vision started to go again, but I saw the crack open up in the starry sky and issue two golden streams that headed towards us.
I remember breathing the energy in as the bell tolled, before it all went black.
I opened my eyes in a forest. NO! My hands were glowing with regeneration energy. Several beasts surrounded me as I exploded into light and pushed myself out of purgatory.
I woke up inside the Tardis, laying on the bench seat.
"Doctor! She's awake."
The Eleventh Doctor strolled in looking as young as my husband.
"Hey old man. How long did it take you to do that?" I poked a button on his new coat and laughed weakly.
"You didn't even change your faces." Clara said. I regenerated too? Huh.
"It's just taking a bit longer. Whole new regeneration cycles, breaking them in." He handed me a bowl of fish fingers and custard that he had just taken a drink from. This regeneration process burned like my veins did before.
"It all changes. Everything you are gone in a second. Like breath on a mirror. But ant moment now they're a comin."
"Who are coming?" Clara asked.
"The Doctor and the Vision. A match made in Galliffrey." He laughed at his own joke.
"You-you are the Doctor." She was crying now, but I was busy focusing on not becoming a monster.
"Yep, and I always will be. But times change, and so must I ."
I lost all connection with the others as I finally regenerated.
A real regenerating this time.
Ok two things
1. This series will now be called Time Angel Cronicals.
2. I am thinking of making a supernatural and Criminal minds crossover. I need to know if this would be read.
Thank you, please comment and vote.
Yours till the last word.
