Nakahara Chuya x Reader: Stowaway

---------------------------------
Here you were in a strange town where you didn't know anybody. You looked around the city seeing how it was extremely populated.
'I could get lost easily here.' You thought. You pulled at your scarf, and decided to just wander in the city. You observed your surroundings by using your five senses: watched the way people acted, listened to the people speaking.
'Am I in Japan?' You thought raising a brow.
Let's take a few steps back, for starters you were the type of person to jump from place to place. A nomad some would say. It's not like you had any other place to turn to, you were born an orphan and had become a stowaway when some people attacked your orphanage. Now you roam the streets sneaking away on boats, trains, anything really. It wasn't that hard for you considering you had mastered your ability called The Shadow of the Wind* you made yourself become one with the shadows. You had made people think you had died when you vanished and moved onto another place.
At first you didn't know of this ability until one man had explained to you about this concert of supernatural abilities. You never remembered his name, but he taught you a lot when you stayed in Spain.** But that's enough back story for now.
'Who would've thought I would make it this far East.' You thought checking out your surroundings. You felt a pain in your stomach followed by a low growl.
'Looks like I'm hungry. Now let's see..' You thought. You looked and saw a convenience store. You went through the doors feeling the cool air of the AC. You spotted a couple of bags of some chips, you assumed so since you didn't know that much Japanese. You glanced on either side seeing if anyone would see you. To your luck the store was empty, and the cashier was too busy engrossed in a magazine. You smirked to yourself before activating your ability. Suddenly the shadows around you reacted to the light surrounding your body, and you blended into the shadows. You moved at a fast speed out of the store along with the snacks you picked up leaving no trace behind.
----------------------------
'The wonders of human survival can lead me to these extremes.' You thought devouring the snacks you had stolen. One part of your mind knew it was wrong to steal, but another part of your mind told you it was right for survival. Like the angel and the devil, you let the devil side take over. As you were engulfed in feeding yourself you suddenly heard something out in the distance. You payed no attention to it at first, until they got closer.
You ears twitched in surprise like a prey sensing danger. You narrowed your eyes seeing a man, a man dressed felicitously like he were rich, he had the brightest orange hair you've ever seen, the most striking aspect was that he was short. Shorter than other men you have seen before. He walked with his back erect as he had a cigarette in one hand, and a cellphone in the other.
"Yeah I know I took care of it." You heard him say, although you could only pick up some of the words.
'Took care of?' You thought, although you can tell it was the other meaning to that phrase.
"I'm headin' back now just-" The man cut himself off when he caught your presence through his peripheral vision. You hid behind some abandoned crates as you eerily felt the man's eyes on you.
"I'll call back." He said. He snapped his cellphone shut, and took one big breath of the cigarette smoke before stomping on it on the hard concrete.
'I could've sworn I saw some...one..' His thoughts trailed off as he got a better look at you. He knew his instincts weren't wrong. He saw your form, which you thought you had hidden efficiently. He couldn't help but let out a little scoff as he saw a smug look on your face, looking like you his well from him.
"You know I can see you right?" He asked making you stiffen.
'See? He can see me?' You thought.
"You're not very well hidden. Now come out of there." He ordered. He wanted to get a better look at you.
Your heart pumped as you became nervous, he was talking as if he were about to be arrest you. Not that that wouldn't make sense since you're a theif. You formulated a hasty plan in your mind to just throw the crates at him, and make a retreat into the shadows. But that was spoiled when you saw his feet right in front of you.
"Oi, are you deaf?" He asked with raised brow. You tilted your head as he threw new vocabulary at you. He saw the confused look on your face and guessed that you were not a native speaker.
"Do you have any idea what I'm saying?" He asked.
You fumbled around giving him a clear sign that you didn't understand.
"Don't know." You spilled out your Japanese in a sloppy manner.
He stared at you, "So you at least know basic vocab."
You became nervous under his gaze, his eyes studied you which made you very uncomfortable. After years of running from people it made sense. Then again you couldn't help but stare in his eyes, they had a sort of shine to them which caught your attention.
"Jeez." He sighed out.
"What's you name?" He asked curiosity lacing his silky voice.
"Name?" You asked tilting your head like a curious dog. The male for some reason found it...cute.
"Name, (L/n) (Y/n)." You said pointing to yourself. You pointed to the male and waited expecting him to answer.
"Nakahara Chuya." He responded. You let out a little sound in awe and found yourself in a staring contest with the man named Chuya.
'She obviously is lost, and doesn't look like she has any sort of contact here. Maybe I should take her in?' Chuya tried surmising what to do with you. You looked like one of the abandoned animals he would usually find in an alley way, and for some reason he disliked that. But he wouldn't know how the Port Mafia members would react if they found a member of the Black Lizard taking in a stray girl.
"Um," You spoke up getting him out of his train of thought. You pointed to your eyes, "Why?"
Chuya looked at you slightly confused, but he realized you were asking why he was staring at you. A little pink appeared on his cheeks as he became aware of how long he was staring.
He cleared his throat, "I'm thinking of what to do with you."
"Maybe I should take you-"
Your eyes widened as you recognized the word 'Take'.
"NO!" You shouted surprising him. You scrambled away from the man, your mind screaming to get away, to not trust him.
"W-What was that, why are you suddenly acting so jumpy?" He asked reaching out. You have a glare backing away.
"No take!" You yelled before beginning to sprint.
"Shadow of the Wind!" You activated your ability letting the shadows come under your control.
Chuya's eyes widened in shock, 'She's an ability user?!' He thought.
"Oi wai-!"
You finally blended into the shadows making a swift getaway. This Chuya was left by himself with no traces of you whatsoever. He blinked repeatedly, but then a small smirk found it's way onto his face.
'Now I'm interested.'
----------------------------------
3 days after your encounter with Chuya you became even more cautious and distant. You were a theif, forever a slave to loneliness, and there was no changing that. You decided that now was the time to leave Japan. Although you didn't know why, you actually wanted to see Chuya again. You felt like he actually...cared? Quite a weird thought of someone you had just met. But somehow he was still lingering in your thoughts for the past time.
You had made it to the harbor where a gigantic ship was about to head off to America. You sneaked around quietly until you had successfully stowed away on board. You hid quietly waiting for departure both in anticipation and surprisingly a little disappointment.
"Well what do we have here? A stowaway?" You looked up gasping. You saw a woman, and a man that looked like they were from the last two centuries.
"That simply won't do." The women said giving a slight maniacal grin. You grit your teeth freaking out inside out of pure terror.
"Shadow of the Wind!" You used your usual getaway with the shadows. The duo looked at you in interest, and the woman smirked.
"An ability user huh?" She mumbled. She twisted around her finger forming a small vortex of air.
"Gone with the Wind!" A sudden slice of wind stopped you in your tracks as it created a gigantic gust almost pushing you into the water. Luckily you caught yourself on the rail. You looked down nervously and then to the duo.
"We almost have the same name for our abilities. Hmm sort of boring if you ask me." The woman said waving her parasol around in a bored manner. The other person, a male looked at you glaring in suspicion and analysis. You gulped feeling pinned down between the duo and the water of the ocean.
'I can't possibly swim, and I can't break out in a run. But...' You thought for a second. You can manipulate the shadows to your advantage, but how would that help you? The two in front of you looked pretty powerful, and skilled.
"What should we do with her Sir Hawthorne?" The lady asked the man named 'Hawthorne', he closed his eyes in thought. This was your chance, even if it was for a split second.
"Shadow of the Wind!" You called the shadows making a makeshift blade. This shocked the duo as they didn't think you would make a hostile move. You swing it and it made a zing as it shot forward to the duo. They had to dodge seeing as they couldn't counter due to the unexpectancy. You felt relief wash over as you found an opening. You swiftly blended into the shadows to make a run for it. Hawthorne attempted to stop you as a red substance that looked like blood formed around his fingers. He fired it like a bullet, and it shot through your calf. Again due to the unexpectancy you couldn't react, only your eyes widened as your body finally reacted.
You refused to waver as the shadows finally made you vanish without a trace.
--------------------------------
Chuya was walking around the alley again, in fact the alley where he first met you. He couldn't get his mind off you for some odd reason. Of course he had forced out those thoughts when he had Mafia work. And of course that 'bastard' Dazai as he called him had occupied his thoughts too. But took up the majority, he was so curious, an ability user and a foreigner.
Just as he stepped to a corner he heard a noise. A mix of a groan and several sobs of pain that he knew all too well after what he had done to several other men. Although these sounds were far too high pitched. He rounded the corner, his eyes widening at what he saw. You sitting on the concrete cradling your bloody leg. You had a pained look on your face every time you tried to move.
"You..." He mumbled out accidentally.
You looked in shock and fear wondering if it was the 'Hawthorne' male, but to your surprise it was a familiar face.
"C-Chuya..." You mumbled your eyes glassy. A sudden serious look came on his face as he crouched near your leg.
"How did this happen?" He asked becoming a little enraged, even for him it was strange. You blinked as he examined you, your heart skipped a beat as he actually looked concerned over you.
"Attacked..." You mumbled looking down. His brows furrowed in confusion.
"Care to explain?" He asked while you tilted your head.
He sighed starting to get frustrated, "I forgot you only know basic vocab." He touched your leg only for you to recoil with a painful yelp.
"It hurts..." You whine fresh tears falling from your eyes.
"Obviously, you got shot in the fucking leg." Chuya said. He sighed once more as he put one arm behind your back and another behind your knees, of course being wary of your injury. He lifted you in his arms with ease making you gasp in surprise.
"C-Chuya?!" You yelped grabbing a fistful of his clothing.
"You need medical attention, so don't you dare whine or escape." He ordered tightening his grip. You felt your face warm up at his serious expression as you obliged.
'Wow for someone so short he's pretty strong.' You thought grinning slightly.
"What's with that grin? Weren't you crying just a moment ago?" He asked, you picked up a few words and a playful grin appeared on your face.
"Chuya's strong, but short." You said teasing. An annoyed vein popped on his forehead as he glared at you.
"What'd you call me?" He asked with a slight growl.
"Shortie~" You teased as his expression became more annoyed.
'I'm so glad I know this word his face is priceless.' You thought.
'Of all the words they could know they just had to know that fucking word. How are they so playful even though their leg's bleeding?!' Chuya thought keeping his pace.
"Shortie~" You continued to tease him until his face was covered with annoyed veins.
"(Y/n) I swear to God call me that one more time and I'll just drop you here." Chuya said looking at you with a heavy glare. You grinned challenging that glare.
"Chuya's a shortie~" You teased once more.
"Alright then." Chuya said. His grip on you loosened and you felt like you were about to fall. Your eyes widened and your heart pumped with adrenaline as you realized he wasn't kidding. You gave a little screech of surprise as you suddenly wrapped your arms around his neck to keep yourself from hitting the concrete; seeing as though your leg was still injured. Chuya gave a grunt of surprise himself as he stumbled from the sudden force. He retightened his grip on you to fix his balance before you two hit the ground.
He looked at your face as it was suddenly in close proximity. He suddenly felt his heartbeat quicken a pace, something he hasn't felt in years. It felt strange to him. One good look at your face, eyes squeezed shut, face scrunched up a bit as if bracing for impact, and of course the tiny whimpers that escaped you; he couldn't but help find you adorable.
"(Y/n)..." You opened your eyes at the sound of his voice. You almost screamed at the closeness at his face, but instead you felt your cheeks heat up, and a red blush appeared on your cheeks. You looked down not daring to look him in the eye as the heat became even more intense.
"Sorry.." You mumbled moving to hide your face in his chest. He blinked not expecting the sudden apology, but he got over it.
"Whatever, just don't call me short again." He said while he started to pick up his pace.
------------------------------------
"So she's an ability user?" You were in front of the leader of the Port Mafia. The place Chuya told you he worked for.
"Yes sir, and I found her in the alley way. Apparently she's foreign, but she could be useful with just a few sessions of training." Chuya explained to the leader, who you later learned was named Ougai.
"And what would that ability be?" He asked narrowing his eyes. You took that as a sign that he wanted a demonstration.
"Shadow of the Wind!" You let the shadows make you vanish from their sight. Ougai raised a brow while his daughter looked in awe.
"Where'd she go?"
"Here." You said behind them. Ougai gave a interested look.
"Quite the ability." He said, and turned to Chuya. "Good job in finding them."
"So you're letting them join the Port Mafia?" Chuya asked.
"Well I'm putting them in your care for now. We'll see." Ougai said before dismissing you two from his chambers. Chuya ran his hand through his hair as he gave out a small sigh.
"Why does it seem like I'm her babysitter? Man what a hassle." He said. He looked over to you while you were looking around like an excited puppy.
"(Y/n)." He called getting your attention.
"Looks like you'll be with me for a while." He said. You blinked at him looking with your shining eyes.
"Uh..." Chuya trailed off trying to communicate.
"New home with me." He said each word slowly trying to give you the message.
'Now I know I have to start with improving her Japanese.' He thought.
The words 'new' and 'home' made your eyes widened with tears on their brim.
"New home?" You asked with a cracked voice. Once he nodded you hugged him, your heavy force almost toppling you two. He looked down at you as you looked ready to cry.
"Chuya! Chuya! Thank you!" You exclaimed both in happiness and excitement.
"Alright already don't create a scene." Chuya said even though a part deep inside of him liked it when you hugged him. You let go and followed him to a new future, seems like you were no longer a stowaway.
A/N: I have no idea what happened here. I also added an ability in here cause why the heck not?
*The Shadow of the Wind is an actual Spanish novel by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. A friend of mine who took Spanish in high school told me about it. And yes **the author's from Spain.
