Chapter 18: {Christmas/NewYear's Special Pt. 3 FINAL} She Didn't Last

All I could think was: she can't be dead. She's still alive, and I was right.
My eyes darted to the smashed vehicle stuck at the bottom of the hill. My heart shattered at the sight, as my feet immediately dragged my body down the hill. She has to still be alive in there!
"Y/N!" I shouted, not caring how loud I was. My hands caught the door handle, abruptly pulling my body to a stop. Staring into the broken window I could see two bodies in the front seats.
There! My hand groped for the door handle, pulling it. Locked. I ran around to the other side, pulling it open almost immediately.
"Y/N!" I called, seeing my girlfriend unconscious right in front of me.
"Cory..?" She groaned. I smiled, tears peaking at my eyes.
"Yeah..it's me. I'll get you out of here. The police are coming. Okay?" I said a bit too quickly. She understood, and hummed in response.
I took her hand in mine. It was cold and pale. That sent a shiver down my spine. I squeezed it lovingly, attempting to reassure her and me at the same time.
-FlashBack-
"Hey! No peeking!" I called out, stopping my girlfriend to grab at her present from under the tree.
"Whyyy?" She whined, her bottom lip poking out. Puppy eyes. Good trick, but it wouldn't work on me. Not today. Not this time.
I chuckled, pushing the present farther under the tree with my foot. "It's for Christmas Day only. Okay?" I asked with a smile.
She nodded, heaving a large sigh. "Fine! But no promises that my patience will hold out til then," she said.
I smirked in response. "I'll make sure that you don't open that present til Christmas."
  "Yeah okay."
Then, out of sudden surprise, I scooped her up in my arms and smiled. She laughed as I held her bridal style.
"Put me down Cory!" She exclaimed, but I didn't listen. I continued holding her, walking over to the couch and dropping her onto it.
Jokingly, I laid on top of her, smiling. "Ah, this is a nice couch."
"Cory you're jerk," Y/N hummed, twisting curls of my hair between her fingers.
"I don't know what you're talking about, I'm the hottest guy you know," I teased. She pondered a bit, then smiled.
"Nah, Simon really tops that list."
I scoffed, and rolled my eyes. She giggled then kissed my head. We lay there for a while just enjoying one another's company.
-FlashBack End-
My hands fold together so perfectly, like they were made for one another. They were. My question then ponders to this analogy. Is a romantic relationship like a pair of hands? Two identical so that they can be fit together so perfectly? And yet, both have different amounts and types of scars, bruises, and red marks that no one can really explain.
Each person has their flaws, has their..insecurities and problems that no one or even themselves can really explain. A relationship is like a pair of hands. Sometimes they don't always have to be identical to be a match.
My eyes were half lidded at this point, as my head felt heavy. I realized my body was in shut down mode. I didn't see anything. I didn't hear anything. I didn't feel anything. And I didn't think of anything. For the sake of my anxiety not taking over.
All I felt was my chest heaving large breaths, my heart pounding against my fragile rib caged walls. It was like a tiger, wanting to break free. It was telling me to get off my butt, run down that hallway and check on her. That's all.
"Cory?" A voice that seemed to be muffled rung through my ears just barely. It sounded as if I was under water. Someone from the surface was trying to pull me out.
"Cory!" The voice yelled again, becoming louder and clearer through my ears.
My body was being shamed, as my head shot up in response. I looked to the side, seeing Toby having his hand on my shoulder.
"You Alright buddy?" He asked, his voice still with that slight squeak in it. I nodded slowly, then rejected my answer. I shook my head no, realizing all I haven't been thinking of.
I was exhausted, worried and just drained. Nothing in my body wanted to properly function. Nothing.
"The nurse said we could go see her if you're up for it," Toby had told me. My eyes lit up a bit. I nodded quickly and stood with him.
Toby had led me to the emergency room, but we had stopped when we saw Y/N's mother crying and talking to a doctor. We walked over, thinking something was up with Y/N.
"Hey Mrs. L/N," I said softly, Toby stood slightly behind me, not knowing her mother much. In which I understood why he wouldn't want to talk.
She looked up at me with a final sniff, and wiped her eyes, "Hello Cory."
"Is everything alright?" I asked, trying not to press anything on her knowing how fragile she could be.
The woman shook her head. "It's...It's nothing about Y/N...so you don't have to..worry..," she said, taking a few pauses to wipe away left over tears.
I hesitated, then asked anyway, "Can I ask who it is-." I was cut off by yelling from down the hall.
"SHE CANT BE DEAD!" Yelled a very familiar and deep voice. I shot my head forward, looking at a tall boy who looked very angered. "I HAVE TO SEE HER!"
"Son, calm down," said a doctor, attempting to reassure the boy. I looked at Toby, and we both seemed to realize who we were looking at. Ched Damson.
At this point, Y/N's mom had walked away to check on Y/N. Me and Toby began to walk over to Ched, looking at him a bit confused.
"Ched?" Toby hesitantly asked. Ched stopped, then looked at us. You could see the tears in his eyes.
"What do you want?" He asked, slightly glaring. His dark eyes were soft for once. They showed a guy, broken and scared instead of stern and kill urging.
"You were yelling, and we're here to see Y/N," I said confidently. He looked at me then through the small window of the hospital room door.
"She's not dead...," he mumbled to himself. He looked down, hands clenched as if he was gonna punch us again.
"Who's not...dead..?" Toby asked with a slight crack in his voice. Out of curiosity, I looked through the window of the door. There, laid Shelby, Y/N's older sister.
She had a respirator over her mouth, the heartbeat monitor going almost barely up and down to represent a heartbeat.
"She won't die," he muttered. I looked at him, tears fell from his eyes. He's never cried, nor showed any emotion besides anger.
"Will they let you go in?" I asked. He shook his head slowly, as he wiped his eyes with his sweatshirt sleeve. I patted his shoulder, attempting to comfort him.
Immediately, Ched did something I never thought he would. He pulled me into a hug, and began crying into my shoulder. I rubbed his back, smiling slightly.
-TimeSkip-
"Now you can open it," I said, handing the present to a bandaged Y/N.
"Alright," she replies, taking the box carefully.
It had been a few weeks after the accident, and I didn't care how long after Christmas it was. Y/N had been diagnosed with a concussion so she couldn't go to school, and a broken arm in which just got the cast off a few days ago. She still had bandages on her injured parts due to her mother still worrying that they needed to heal more.
Y/N's hair had been cut shorter due to it being stained with blood from her head from the impact. The only thing that still shook her was the thought of her sister. The airbags in the car at the time didn't work when they crashed. The bags were trapped in the compartments by moved metal. The impact had injured Shelby more in which she died a day later in the hospital.
Her mother had been shaken as well, still scared that her last daughter would get hurt more but the slightest thing. I felt bad for both, and I couldn't help but feel worried for Y/N. I was more protective of her now, more than ever before.
Ched had also been hit greatly with the thought that his girlfriend had died in the crash. It hurt him that he couldn't see the last moments of her life. The doctor's wouldn't let him. It broke my heart a bits. Making me think: what if that happened to Y/N? I would probably break down, and go away from the world for a while.
The ripping of wrapping paper snapped me from my trance as I watched the one I love open the gift. She had a small box in her hand as she opened it slowly.
She lifted out a necklace, with a locket on the end engraved with our initials with a plus between them and a heart around them. I smiled at her. She immediately tackled me in a hug.
  "I love you Cory."
"I love you too. With all my heart."
