Chapter Three; When Curiosity Killed The Cat, It Killed Me Too.

Well, this is the last chapter guys. Side vid is just a sad song that makes me almost cry every time i hear it. :''(

I just want to thank anyone who has read, voted, commented, or anything else (but I think that's it.. well, there is fanning but i bet nobody fanned me for just this story ;), maybe)

The only reason why I wrote this, is because I myself was going through a major depression and even thinking about suicide. If you are one of those millions of kids suffering from depression, you can come and talk to me. Just remember, you're not alone.

And don't do what you are about to read, Kay? :)

I sprinted down the alley with the black back in my hand; I was on my way to bid my farewell to Chase and Hayley. This was the fastest way to get there. I rounded a corner and stopped next to an old apartment complex.

Well… this is it.

I ditched my bag in a tree so they wouldn’t get suspicious and climbed the two flights of stairs to get to their apartment that they shared with their mom. I wasn’t sure why I felt like I needed to say goodbye, but it did.

“Knock, knock.” I said after knocking a few times, opening the door and seeing Hayley standing up like she was walking to answer the door and Chase lounging on the couch watching football. Her mother was missing though. Her face brightened a little bit when she saw me and she smiled from ear to ear.

“Carter! How you doing?” I sighed and looked down, unable to answer. I felt arms wrap around me and I instantly hugged back, but who I hugged wasn’t Hayley. I looked up confused to see Chase looking down at me with his big gray eyes and a grim expression. I took note that Hayley was awkwardly standing a few feet away with the same confused face.

Then I remembered what I was going to do tonight and hugged him again, burying my head into his warm chest. Chase seemed to tense for a moment but he soon relaxed and put his chin on top of my head.

“Dude, don’t I get a little Carter time?” Hayley asked impatiently and I laughed a little, but you could tell it was off. I let go of Chase and walked over to Hayley and embraced her.

“You are my bestest friend Hayley. Don’t you ever forget that.” I whispered softly in her ear and she pulled away with a frantic look in her eye.

“Carter? What’s wrong?” she asked and grabbed my shoulders, shaking me lightly. I shook my head and plastered a big fake smile.

“Nothing, I just wanted to see you two. I’ve had a rough day and I needed a hug from my two favorite people.” I lied. Well, it wasn’t a total lie. I did want to see them, and I did have a rough day, and I did need a hug. But everything was wrong right now- not nothing.

“We were just watching the Ducks beat the Beavers! Want to watch?” Chase asked. The Ducks were his favorite college football team. He said that one day he would go to that college just to watch unlimited football.

I shook my head no and took a few steps back.

“No, I was just stepping in to see you two, but I got to be home soon.” Hayley and Chase frowned, but nodded nonetheless. Meaning that they fell for my lie, they were so stupid sometimes. But maybe their stupidity was for the best.

“Alright, see you tomorrow morning.” I didn’t answer to that but simply waved.

“See you later, and I love you guys.” With that said and done, I stepped out of their small two bedroom apartment and closed the door sighing. I have never told them that, hopefully they don’t get any ideas because I said that.

I took a sharpie out of my pocket and bent down to write under their welcome mat.

I’m sorry.

-Carter Mortonson (January 22nd 1995-September 15th 2011)

When I finished, I slid the mat back over my large writing. What I didn’t know was that Chase was watching me through the window the whole time.

I jogged down the stairs and dashed to the tree that held all of the supplies I had bought and started my late run to the city park.

Chase.

“Oh god…” I whispered as I uncovered the mat. I had spied on Carter, and it was a good thing too, because now I knew everything. “Hayley! Call 9-1-1!” I yelled and she looked at me confused.

“Why?” she asked. I groaned loudly in frustration and ran to the house phone, dialing the three familiar numbers, waiting for what it seemed like forever for somebody to answer.

“9-1-1, what’s your emergency?” I jumped slightly when they finally answered. You could say I was a little edgy.

Carter Mortonson. The one girl I ever had loved and I had loved her since the day I met her. No- not brotherly love. I wanted her. And now she was going to go off and do something really reckless? I just wouldn’t stand by it!

“My best friend is going to commit suicide!”

Carter.

As I tied the noose around my neck, I looked down from the tree branch. I made it so it would be quite easy to find me, but it would definitely do the trick.

I pulled off my hoodie and let it fall the twenty feet to the ground and land next to my bag. Then taking out my sharpie, I started writing ‘I’M SORRY’ in big letters all across my arms, and my chest.

After dropping the Sharpie and watching it fall to the ground, letting a single tear slide down my cheek, I did it.

I jumped.
