Friend In Gotham
It had been two years since Kara had moved to Bellevue Washington with her guardians Jeremiah and Eliza. So far she had befriended her next door neighbor Kevin Beaumont. He was incredibly nice and seemed like a good big brother to little Damian. When she wasn't attending school and interacting with Kevin or doing her homework, Kara was leading a double life as the vigilante superhero Supergirl! Yes, Kara was from Krypton and she was the cousin of Clark Kent, otherwise known as Superman! And just like her cousin Kal El, Kara had the exact same powers as him which were fueled by the rays of Earth's yellow sun. Kara used her Kryptonian powers to help people just like her cousin, and she really got something out of being a superhero.
As Supergirl, Kara made a lot of friends who were also superheroes. A lot of these superheroes were around her age. Her best friend who was also a superhero, even if she didn't have any superpowers, was Barbara Gordon, a vigilante who also went by the alias Batgirl. What Barbara lacked in superpowers, she made up for with her brilliant mind, great detective skills, and combat skills. She also had a wonderful heart and was always there to confide in for Kara. Like I said, Supergirl and Batgirl were the best of friends.
It was another night in Gotham City, and Barbara was out on patrol in her purple and yellow Batgirl outfit. Kara was wearing her blue and red Supergirl outfit as she flew on over to the top of the building that Babs was perched outside of. "Hey Babs, what's up?" Kara casually asked as she landed next to Barbara. "Oh you know, just out on patrol and fighting crime," said Barbara, "The same old usual vigilante stuff. What brings you to Gotham at this time?"
"Oh y'know, there wasn't much crime to fight in Bellevue," said Kara, "Plus I wanted to see my favorite superhero friend." Barbara smiled and replied, "well I'm flattered. How have you been?" The two friends casually leaned on the wall and Kara said, "I've been fine and all. Just doing the best I can to balance being a superhero with normal mundane life." Babs nodded and replied, "oh I hear you, sister. So, been seeing any cute boys lately?" Kara blushed and replied, "well there is this one guy who I go to school with... He's been my neighbor since I first moved to Bellevue... He's the same age as me too..."
"What's his name?" Barbara curiously asked. "Kevin Beaumont," explained Kara, "Born and raised in Bellevue from what I've noticed. His mom's single, and he has a little brother named Damian."
"Is he nice?" Barbara asked. "Oh yeah, totally," said Kara, "he's genuine, polite, and honest. And he's always so involved with his little brother. Dami's so happy to have Kevin in his life and to play with him. You'd like him, Barbara. And oh yes, he's totally handsome. Might give Robin the Boy Wonder some competition in the handsome department." Babs crossed her arms and playfully replied, "I'll believe it when I see it." The two girls shared a laugh. After they were done laughing, Kara said, "but you know what the weirdest thing is? When I look at Kevin and Damian, they remind me of Bruce..." Barbara's eyes widened in surprise as she asked, "wait, really? How so??" Kara thought back and replied, "well, Kevin and Damian have the same dark blue eyes just like Bruce. Kevin's features are pretty bold for someone his age, especially with the way Bruce keeps up his billionaire playboy schtick. Heck, Kevin and Damian almost look like younger versions of Bruce."
Barbara listened to what Kara had to say, trying to imagine what Kevin and Damian look like with everything Kara just said. "That's very specific," said Barbara, "now who's Kevin and Damian's mother?"
"Andrea Beaumont," replied Kara. "I could see if Bruce and Andrea had a fling," offered Barbara, "maybe see who Kevin's father is." Kara shook her head and said, "nah, I shouldn't snoop into things that aren't my business... If Kevin wants to tell me who his father is, he can tell me on his own terms when he feels it's right." Barbara nodded and said, "I understand..." After a few minutes of awkward silence, Barbara asked, "so do you like Kevin?" Kara blushed and replied, "is it that obvious? He's the first guy who's ever made me feel things I don't usually feel... But how do I tell him I'm Supergirl? How does Kal manage to make it work with Lois?? If I tell him I'm Supergirl, will he love me ONLY because I'm a superhero?"
"Kara, you and I both know the biggest reason Lois and Clark have had a good romance is because, well, Lois fell in love with Clark first, not Superman," said Barbara, "I'm sure if Kevin loves you, it's because he fell in love with Kara Danvers, not Supergirl. I'm sure you'll find a way to make it work with him..." Kara smiled and said, "thanks Barbara... I'm glad I have you for a friend." Barbara smiled and enthusiastically said, "anytime."
